A disconcerting development
In my country, the life expectancy for men has risen by about five months, of women by a little over two years.

The Absolute Truth
No, this is not a discussion on absolutes. It is an experiment. I wnt to play a diplomacy game in which all players must tell the truth, and nothing but the truth, to their fellow diplomats. I think it could make for a very interesting game. Lies by omission would be acceptable, and trying to mislead someone without lying is certainly encouraged. Would anyone else be interested in such a game?

The Democratic-controlled Senate has not produced a budget in more than 930 days.
This makes is hard for Obama to run with any credibility at all against a "do nothing Congress" when his own party hasn't done even its most basic job in the Senate for over two years.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
17 Nov 11 UTC
Not the Senate has given its job to the budget Super Committee.
The problem is that with or without the sequester from the Super Committee annual spending rising from less than $4 trillion to more than $5 trillion over the next decade.

We can cut all the discretionary spending we want, but the baby boom that began in 1946 began retiring in 2011 and if we do not cut medicare and social security entitlements it doesn't matter what Congress or the Super Committee does.

The entitlements already built into the system are relentlessly bankrupting us.

Don't budgetary matters start in the House?
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
18 Nov 11 UTC
Actually the President is required to submit a budget to the House and Senate because of a 1921 congressional act.
Then the Committee on the Budget in the House and the Senate begin drafting budget resolutions.
The resolutions of each committee is submitted for a vote in their individual chambers.

So you get a House budget and a Senate budget that must be reconciled.

The Senate has not passed a budget in over two years.

Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
18 Nov 11 UTC
After budgets get approved and reconciled the House alone controls appropriations.

The House can refuse to appropriate money for the budget in other words.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

Republicans should hammer the fact that Harry Reid and the Democrats in the Senate reject compromise of any kind, and use the fact that for over two years dating back to the last year of the Bush Administration the Democratic Senate has failed to perform its most basic function, produce a budget.

The blame for the runaway spending in Washington and the budget crisis is squarely on the Democrats and Republicans should mercilessly pound this point home.

Why?

So that a future Senate considers it suicide not to produce a budget, and take total responsibility for its spending and taxation.

Are you serious Tettleton? I am guessing you are one of those folks that gets all their info from Glen Beck and Fox News cause that is the only way i can explain your distorted view of reality.

"Are you serious Tettleton? I am guessing you are one of those folks that gets all their info from Glen Beck and Fox News cause that is the only way i can explain your distorted view of reality. "

How can you say that and still believe yourself? Can you give me any examples of how Fox is so terrible? How about Glenn Beck? Or do you watch too much MSNBC? (joke, still answer the first 3 Qs) Fact is, you have no idea really. Same as me who doesn't watch MSNBC, you don't really watch Fox? Do you? Same as me, you are basing your opinions of Fox and Glenn Beck on tidbits of information instead of an essay that was written without emotion. So I don't criticize MSNBC. but you still criticize Fox and Glenn Beck.

You destroy your credibility when you or anyone else (including me) makes comments like that.

It's troubling how ignorant of basic civics and the duties of the Senate my fellow citizens are.
It is also disturbing that individuals can't differentiate between the direct causes of current economic crisis in the United States, spending and taxation.

It isn't surprising though when you see people with college degrees protesting for jobs instead of protesting that the professors who supposedly taught them didn't teach them how to create a job for themselves, but of course tenured professors have never had any idea whatsoever about how to create jobs. That's why they are isolated in universities. They couldn't cut it in business.

It's also not surprising that many people that don't understand the Senates duties and the fact that runaway spending is entirely the problem at the same ones who blame a bank for defrauding them when they signed their mortgage documents without either reading them or consulting an attorney.

Idiots always self identify, and people who aren't idiots continue to succeed no matter what the economic climate or obstacles.

Such is life.

When I red these lines from one of my favorite columnists it made me feel better.

Our government has the time to worry about school lunch menus in Boise, Idaho, but the Senate hasn't found the time to pass a budget in Washington, D.C., in nearly three years. H.L. Mencken famously wrote that every decent man is ashamed of his government. This one gives you little choice.

David Harsanyi is the author FYI

Franz josef,

I've raised a kids and am waiting on a grand kid.
They all have jobs and homes to live in.
I own my own business.
I own my own home.
I've created jobs for my fellow citizens and get quite a rush of satisfaction every time I sign a paycheck to this day.

I did all this after growing up in poverty in a single-parent family.
I'm convinced that hard work, fiscal sanity, and personal responsibility are the keys to success.

I really like my distorted view of reality.
You on the other hand strike me as a whining, liberal victim in your own mind of some dark, sinister conspiracy that rules the world.

Later dude! Have a great life!

OK, I'll Give Mr. Gingrich Credit Where Credit Is Due...

I DO think that's one of the more reasonable positions taken on immigration, especially by a GOP Candidate...never been a fan of Newt's, but he's at least now said one thing I genuinely agree with in these debates...that's one more than the rest of the GOP field...your take?

WorldDip map
Hello all

Haven't played here before. Was wondering if there was a different style map for the world game. Finding it difficult to read country/province names in the darker spaces and can't read in the dark blue FA spaces at all.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Question for Tettleton's Chew
Seeing as you continuously start threads about how the left is continuously wrong and flawed forever, explain the following question to me. Why did this financial meltdown the world is currently experiencing come under a right wing president of the United States. The housing markets were obliterated, the debt of the United States and Europe went through the roof, and the stock markets still have not recovered all their gains.
