More noob questions
Just curious, when I'm at the "Home" page, some of the games I'm in have stars next to them like the stars that show up in threads you have posted in. What are these stars symbolizing?

Just been given a very decent bottle of wine (St Julien - 1990)
With what should I drink it? Reasonable suggestions welcomed...

A hot blonde and a hot brunnette?

Are you still in Asia, flashman? In that case, maybe a hot asian girl?

Wow, pretty quick responses... Obviously the voices of experience.

And yes, still in Asia. Hmmm, hot girl eh?

My research indicates it's a bordeaux. Correct? Is it a red or a white (the region produces both). This will determine the appropriate entree that complements the wine.

Leoville Poyferre, St Julien, 1990, for the exact reference...

A very fine wine indeed, with the vintage being both excellent and long enough ago to make opening at the first opportunity an absolute must.

And that is, of course, a red...

Bordeaux Reds:

•The firm tannins and full-bodied Cabernet wines pair with rich, flavorful meat dishes such as: rib-eye steak, porterhouse steak, sirloin steak and T-bone steak. It is also a classic match with lamb dishes such as baby lamb chops or roasted leg of lamb. The full fat of certain cheeses work in harmony with the tannins in a full-bodied red Bordeaux, try Gruyere.

•The soft tannins and plummy fruit character of Merlot-driven Pomerol and Saint Emilion pair well with roast duck, cornish hens, roast chicken, pork tenderloin, pork chops and soft cheeses such as Morbier, Camembert and Gouda.

•The wines of Fronsac offer exceptional complexity for a great price and will suit a variety of meals such as roast chicken, Beef Bourgogne, coq au vin, potato gratin chicken soups and stews and Tuscan-style bean soups.

•The full body of Médoc and Haut-Médoc can be paired with hearty dishes such as grilled lamp chops, braised shanks and meat stews.

Bordeaux Whites:

•The Sauvignon Blanc variety is a perfect match with seafood, goat cheese, raw oysters, grilled fish, sushi, pasta and pesto and mixed salads.

•Pair a Bordeaux Sauternes with tropical flavored chocolates, apple pie, pumpkin pie, white chocolate and fruit tarts, or the infallible classic pairing with foie gras as a starter to a special meal.

•Pessac Léognan and Graves are delicious with wild salmon, seared tuna, mussels cooked in white wine, raw oysters, corn chowder and sushi.

•The wines of the Entre-Deux-Mers call for lighter dishes such as grilled fish, smoked salmon and cream cheese, vegetarian pasta dishes and salads.

SWEET Bordeaux WHITES:

•Fruit-based desserts,
•foie gras,
•roasted white meats,
•Blue cheese.

Holy sow! That's a $200 bottle of wine! Nice gift. If it was from a lady, share it with HER! Then show her your appreciation.

Some Italian hot girl? Which part of her?
Draugnar (0 DX)

*cow, not sow. Both are female, but this wine deserves stronger meat than pork.

Start with her belly button, assuming it's an inney, then get creative.

Draugnar, it was from a lady and even more expensive over here (HK)... But she is half my age (even less) and my niece. Se was thanking 'us' for helping her some years back with a house purchase.

Start in the middle eh? So, up or down?

Oh dear, the very thought is getting me interested.
Draugnar (0 DX)
14 Jul 10 UTC
I would just share the wine *with* her (not your niece obviously) then move onto saki in the navel and maybe some sushi on other body parts.

But my meal choice would be Tournedos of Filet (in a demi-glace with black truffles) along with a Caesar salad and a side of steamed vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, squash, the heatier non salad ones) or grilled asparagus with a touch of bearnaise sauce over them (either the steamed veggies or the apsaragus). The wine to drink of course.

Saki navel shots and naked sushi (substitute something sweeter if you like) are for desert. :-)

Sell the wine and use the money to buy a month's worth of first rate beers. Wine is hugely over-rated and is best enjoyed when someone else is providing it at dinner parties where they want to appear posh and sophisticated. The best wine I have ever had, and I've sampled from a broad range of price ranges, was a 3.99 Euro Spanish red I found in a village shop in the mountains that had a picture of a donkey on the label (alas, I never made a note of the name). Nothing else has ever come close...

lol i'm just kidding... though i don't know what you should eat with wine... aren't they supposed to remind you of raspberries and vanilla and all that?
Grilled lamp chops? Boy that would make a hearty dish.
Draugnar (0 DX)
14 Jul 10 UTC
Yep, that's one of them on that list for reds.
I always wondered which wine went best with copper wiring, now I know.
Draugnar (0 DX)
14 Jul 10 UTC
With the tang of the copper, I would think a sweet, full-bodied red would be the way to go.
Sounds right it would totally overpower a fruity white.

The "Oh, Come On, It Wasn't THAT Bad," Screen and Stage Countdown
We've all seen it ...that disease known only as "fanboyitis" (or, since I suppose our diseases have to be politically correct nowadays, it's sister disease that's toally equal and in no way lesser than fanboyitis, fangirlitis.) A movie, play, book, or or show comes out- and it's great. The sequels come out- "Oh my God, those evil demons ruined EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING!!!" So sound off on The "Oh, Come On, It Wasn't THAT Bad" books, shows, films, and, yes, plays.
