i'm pretty quiet as well, except for my diplo buddies and fellow swimmers. do you have any hobbies other than diplomacy? you could start there.

You swim? What exactly is your interest - sea, pool, short/long distance, competitions?

I have freinds and I have had freinds the problem is that I moved and getting new ones is a problem.

And I run XC and golf

I tend to switch between madly over-talkative and crazily quiet depending which group I'm with, not great either.
Also a slight warning for those "be yourself" comments. Firstly, obviously take it with a pinch of salt. Secondly, be who you want to be, not who you are.

You live in socal right? Go hang out at a golf course. I spent 4 days a week over at a golf course a few miles from my house, and if you hang around long enough, take a lesson or two, the employees get to know you, you can hang out and bullshit with the starters or the maintainence guys, ask them if you can run the course for training. Being around a golf course as a kid is a great thing, because the workers around the clubhouse and starters are almost always retirees or old guys who like to see kids come around to play, and they're almost always willing to talk. Also, if you go hang out in the restaurant or bar that they course has, you can listen to what people talk about, and chances are they'll talk to you as well.

I'm not exactly an introvert though, so maybe my view is a bit flawed.

I just started playing golf regularly this past summer, and I had been going there for a grand total of a week before the employees started talking to me, asking where I was from, where I went to school, blah blah blah. Not the greatest conversation in the world, but its something.

Hanging out at sports locations is good, typically because the workers are happy to see kids coming out and playing. Also, some workers at golf courses are pretty damn bored, and if you spend a few minutes before and after your round just hanging out and talking to them, they really appreciate it. Ask them how they got into golf, how long they've been playing, what they did before they drove a golf cart all day long. Also, pairing up with people and playing with someone instead of alone is a good way to build conversation skills. Surely you know that walking around a golf course for three or four hours alone isn't the most exciting thing in the world, and if you're with somebody, you have someone to talk to. If you do it right, they might realize you're just a kid and buy you some food afterwards:]

But in all honesty denis the best way to make good friends is to get out more and just meet a shitload of people. I'm guessing your sports are all at your high school but still, hang out with all the people on you teams, invite over some kids that you joke around with in class, whatever. Just put yourself out there, find people that you like and unless you eat babies or something, you'll make friends.

Also, on the sports subject, club teams are a great way to meet other people. Also, entering golf tournaments can be a cool way to meet some new kids, although in my experience they aren't really in the mood to bullshit until afterwards, but once the competition is over most people lighten up and will talk to you. If they don't talk to you because they're too mad over the game, chances are you and the other guys can get together and realize how sane you both are, and you can go from there.

denis, your still in high school correct? If so, just wait for college (assuming that you go). It forces you to be more outgoing and its easy to make friends. I would recommend going away to college if possible, as it will help you learn better communication skills.

I agree with wydend. That's how it was for me. I thought of college as a new start to make new friends and become a different person. I also like the idea of doing things that force you to talk. That didn't stop me from spending years worrying about going to Spain, and being a teacher, but when I traveled on my own and began student teaching, I realized that I could handle it. Getting over those two things were some of the most incredible moments of my life. Keeping yourself active with various activities instead of computer and video games also helps. Just take it one step at a time and you'll get there.

Also make friends with girls; they're easier to talk to, and it gives you a higher chance of finding a good girlfriend. ;) Although it would still probably take me a week to get myself to ask a girl out, even if I knew she liked me.
