Being Europe on the world map sucks
There's only one SC you can get, every one of your neighbors can force two, and France is incredibly vulnerable.

Anyone else think this game was odd?
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=19044
Seems like an oddly strong alliance between England/France/Italy for an Anon, no private message game... Especially considering France had troops next to both of the others' home SCs and not only did he not move in, but the others didnt even try defending them....Or am I paranoid?

Looking for a fresh challenge?
We have a World game ready and still need 8 more players.

WTA (250 pts), so the pot is juicy. See below...

I really hope this gets the players it needs. I've been wanting to try this variant and it looked like there are some good players on board already.

Yes, this should be an excellent game.

I don't know if what's putting me off is the same for others but while it sounds like a lot of fun, with that many players a 48 hour game will never have turns finalized early and will probably still be going next Christmas. I suspect you'll get plagued with CDs and I don't want to be one of the culprits. If this game doesn't get off the ground would people be interested in a shorter phase length?
flashman (2274 D(G))
14 Jan 10 UTC
Yes, I would... I really want to get a gang together for a proper WTA on the World map.

Folks are still joining here.

If the game fails to start, I will re-set it and give you all a chance to go straight back in. It obviously takes time to gather the full 17 - it is hard enough sometimes to get just 7, and I did set the pts barrier high to make the game more interesting.

Anyone interested, still join the present game and look for a thread if I re-start.

Thanks.

Maybe the buy-in was a little big... I'm tempted to go in for 100...
flashman (2274 D(G))
14 Jan 10 UTC
I understand that but I really wanted a big one to keep the punters interested. I do not want to have players give up too easily.
Braveheart (2408 D(S))
14 Jan 10 UTC
Well i think you're going to have to Flash..... 101 D seems reasonable enough to keep people interested but make it interesting.

perhaps also try 36 hour turns? (otherwise we'll struggle to get 17 people to ever finalise anything early).
flashman (2274 D(G))
14 Jan 10 UTC
I have re-set it for 36 hours, but kept the 250 pts for now. I really want to get players serious about the game.

This is the new link:

http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=19054

With three days and a weekend coming I am hoping that enough players will see this and respond. I have been e-mailing a few suspects and they have indicated interest. Hopefully, if the 10 who joined first time re-join we can get this one to fly. I will use the Master of the Universe thread to publicise the game from now on.

Please join soon, it encourages others... Thanks.

Flash, 250 D may be a bit too much for a totally new map with so many participants and unknowns. Many people would find it harder to write off 250 D for what is, effectively, an experiment.

I realise but it is a matter of balance: I did not want players to treat it as too experimental: a few joining and then treating the game too casually could spoil it. Thanks for joining (again).

I am considering giving a list of names of players if all agree - only their starting country would be hidden.

re: balance (though in a somewhat different sense), has anyone done tempo and fear factor calculations for the map? someone was complaining earlier about having drawn Europe last time and having sucked (although not for definitively statistically sound reasons, something like # of neutrals guaranteed by first fall).

Saudi Arabia cannot move to the Red Sea, though it appears on the South Coast.
Either there's a graphical error (it technically should be on the north coast) or some coding error. Thanks.

World Dip Map with all players starting in EUROPE
Like it says, I had this idea the other day while going to sleep: how about a regular vanilla Diplomacy map (with a few alterations) surrounded by a map of the rest of the world? About 95%+ of the territories outside the original standard Dip map would be unoccupied, except perhaps for one or two isolated colonies for each Great Power.

Mods please look at this
gameID=19044

Check the behavior between France, England and Italy. They all joined right in the last minute and never made any true advances on one another. I believe that it is only fair to cancel the game and give everyone their bets back. I can't stand playing with these cheaters. And when confronted about it, the response from England was "no habla ingles"
