admin? Could you fix this
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=16546#gamePanel

Sorry to bother you, but this game booted us so that Italy won and both me and Docvanhellsing resigned... Italy had it in the bag, so I'm not asking for a draw, but could you give me and Doc a survive as I feel that resigns on records don't give you a good reputation ^-^

Binding Diplomacy/ no stabs
Has anyone ever played a version of diplomacy wherein you cannot break an agreement made? Your agreements may be as vague or deceptive as you like, but once it's made and its terms have been laid out any agreement can not be broken. This is how I prefer to play the game, even when those around me are not. Thoughts?

something Fishy
I'm not a sore loser but in game #16478.Italy had a chance to solo but held off to help Russia.I just want somebody to check the players in question and see how many other games they have been in together.
I find it against the spirit of the game to join with a friend and help them no matter what else is going on just to gain points off of honest players.

Italy was a replacement player. So there couldn't have been any pregame collusion as he wasn't in it at the start. Maybe Russia just sweet talked his way into a draw. You really shouldn't make these accusations in the forum though. Email [email protected] with your suspicions.

What is the spirit of the game, anyway?
PuppyKicker (777 D)

Sweet-talking your way into a draw is a valid tactic, at least to me. I've saved myself some losses with it.

Not that I play for win/loss record, but I think it's good to approach each game with the intent of achieving the most desirable result possible.

That looks like a pretty weird game. Italy stopped entering moves for the last four turns, and the turn before those only entered orders for two units, despite the fact victory was within his grasp. I think podium is right - that game was fishy.

"What is the spirit of the game, anyway? "

Play to win, if you can't win play to draw, if you can't draw play to survive.

Look at another game these guys are invoolved with as AH and Russia - you'd think if they were strong allies Turkey would get a caning, whereas Turkey is doing well. That said, AH and Russia have tried to work together against T and G but they (Ah and R) are just inept.

And that is the problem with meta-gaming and multi-accounting. You can't become better players. The only way to learn and progress is to play the game straight up. As my teachers used to say, you're only cheating yourselves.

To me the spirit of the game is to achieve the best outcome possible starting with solo and if you must draw your goal is to include as few as possible. In this game Italy clearly had a solo but held off to help Russia gain supply centers so as to ensure he would gain more points. Not fair to others involved in a game if those two are playing together.

Only not fair if they had an unbreakable alliance. It is completely fair (and it has been discussed time and again here) to form an alliance in game and see to it your ally gets an equal share by allowing him to catch up and go for the team draw. It happens in real-life war and it happens in Diplomacy (who won WWI? the US? Great Britain? or was it a "team victory"?

podium: You can always check if players have played with each other yourself. You don't have to post here.

Draugnar: I'd say take-over can very easily be cheaters.

There are limits to reason. (gameID=12239)
