Doubt on rules
A fleet in Gulf of Bothnia can support another fleet from Norway to Peters.
I am sure it can if in Norway it's a tank, but I think if it's 2 fleets it's not possible.
Can someone confirm or dismiss this?
StevenC. (1047 D(B))

Well, Gulf of Bothnia and Norway both border St. Petersburg so an attack from two sides is possible.
Silver Wolf (9388 D)

the doubt is about south coast and north coast.

I tried it on the old diplo site and it failed, and I saw it on this site working, I think. Support to st Petersburg, not anycoast.

I'm not completely sure
djbent (2572 D(S))

the costs don't matter for support. just like a fleet at black sea can support a fleet from Aeg to Bul (SC).
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Aug 09 UTC
You can support hold or support into any terroritory you can move to. Coast are irrelavent and are just part of the SC in this instance.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Aug 09 UTC
clarification, just part of the territory in this instance. When moving to or from a dual-coast territory, which coast matters. When supporting from a dual-coast territory, which coast matters as you can only support a territory you can move to. But when supporting into a dual coast (or support holding), coast is irrelavent because the support is the territory. Does that make sense?
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
29 Aug 09 UTC
Draugnar's right. A fleet in GoB _can_ support a fleet moving Nor-St.P
Alderian (2425 D(S))
29 Aug 09 UTC
What he (Draugnar) said. So yes you can do it.
denis (864 D)
29 Aug 09 UTC
that makes no sense since GoB is adjacent to south and norway to north coast
Acosmist (0 DX)
29 Aug 09 UTC
It's still one territory, though; if the rules are going to make it a continuous territory, with a modality for fleets, there has to be some possibility for cooperation.
GilbertErik (449 D)

So does that mean a fleet in gulf of Lyons can support a fleet in Gascony into Spain?
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
29 Aug 09 UTC
Yes.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Aug 09 UTC
All the coast does is say a fleet in Spain on the south coast cannot support a fleet in MAO into Gascony because it cannot move to Gascony. If you can move to the territory (irrelavent of coast) you can support into or support hold the territory.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
29 Aug 09 UTC
denis, think of it from a real military standpoint. Russia has 1 unit in St Pete defending it. They are attacked by a fleet from Norway which is supported by a fleet in GoB. The military unit in St Pete is being attacked on two fronts and has to split its forces between the two and is ultimately overwhelmed. What does it matter that the two forces attacking (one actual attack and one support of attack) them are coming from different directions? It actually makes more sense because they are being flanked.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Aug 09 UTC
While I agree with Alderian to a point, there are times when the rule doesn't equate to real world login. A fleet in StP SC is attacked from Bot and another fleet in Baltic supports the attack. The StP fleet couldn't split and move to defend anyhow, so it wouldn't bother. Likewise, StP would probably have an army AND a fleet in it. To do a real world equivalent, coastal territories should be able to contain a fleet for each coast and an army in the central region, provided all occupiers were of the same nationality.
Draugnar (0 DX)

*login should be logic.
OMGNSO (415 D)
29 Aug 09 UTC
A fleet is implied to contain associated land forces (marines) which can launch amphibious assaults and defend land territory. Therefore marines can defend the other coast.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Aug 09 UTC
So a fleet in StP nc has marines that are going to defend the SC? That's like saying a fleet in Norfolk, VA US has marines which will defend the gulf coast of FL.

Wow, you are making this way too confusing. The rules are: if you can't move to Gascony, you can't support a hold at or move to Gascony. If you can move to St. Peterburg, you can support a hold at or move to St. Peterburg.

And military/real world logic doesn't really apply to this game for many reasons. What you guys have issue with is the size of provinces!
MadMarx (36299 D(G))

Per the online rules: http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/diplomacy.pdf

From Page 7, "How to Support", second paragraph: "A Fleet that can move to a province with two separate coasts . . . can support another Army or Fleet into that province . . . without regard to separate coastlines."

From Page 5, "Specific Movement Clarifications", second paragraph: "A Fleet entering [a province with two separately identified coasts] enters along one coast . . . The Fleet, nevertheless, is considered to be occupying the entire province."

Since the fleet in Bothnia can move to StP and occupy the entire province, including the land right up to the edfe of the water on the north coast, it can help fight and clear the way for a different fleet to land on the north coast... At least that's how I understand the logic, based on the wording in the rules...

The inserting orders problem
After an update optimizing order caching and getting 0.9 ready for public release there was a bug in the footer code. When any bug gets detected all changes are rolled back in case the bug caused any data corruption, which in this case rolled back valid changes to orders, which meant orders didn't save any submitted changes.

The bug has now been fixed, and next phase times have been extended to ensure no-one misses their orders because of it. Thanks for reporting the problem

Chat Achive - could this be switched around?
I think is excellent that we can now read all messages from the games we have played. One thing though the messages appear in reverse, with the most recent message appearing at the top, and the first message at the bottom. I think it would be better if this was switched around.

dip.xbsd.kr

this is the korean diplomacy. it also has a map of south america you can play. it is set up the same as this sight and is in english too. if you join this sight you would not be multi accounting either even though both sights look alike. i encourage all to join this alternate sight as well because it only has about 15 active games going.

3 players defeated, 1 play left 3 players vote to draw why isn't it drawing?
the game is http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=12682

I'm not sure if there's someone I should send this directly to..
but my understanding was that a player that shows up as left doesn't affect the voting?
