Not really. It is only if they follow the terms of the licensing agreement Kestas has placed on it.

It's a 0.82 fork where some variants are being tested, that will eventually be added back in here, a good example of the benefits of using a share-alike open source license. The guy running it is also active on the developer forum and it looks like a very promising project

DJEcc24... good on ya. Many people don't understand that the point of open source is doing just what you are doing... taking some good code, putting your own spin on it, then giving it away to the same community so they experience your twist.

I'm glad kestas jumped in to say good things, so maybe the dissenters will die off.

There are definitely bad reasons to fork and good reasons, and even before this fork people have used and abused the webdip's open source status, so he's not wrong to ask, but this does look like a good fork

The code is maintained by jayp, and the variants are developed by Sleepcap (who recently wrote an excellent howto on making webdip variants)

It implements Anonymous games, 5 minute phases, and a South American map variant. Can't wait to see the benefits return to here. Looks good.

It's okay to experiment variants on mine but I think it would be better if you make games password protected.
otherwise you'll have hard time communicating with people who don't speak english very well and/or don't like(or afraid of) speaking english.
Some territory name in Korean is completely different from original name too, so it will be hard to coordinate and negotiate even though some of us speak english. (if you change locale to Korean, everything that has anything to do with gameplay will be shown in Korean, including territory names in map and order menu.)

I like all the new game options. Maps: Classic, Fleet Rome, South America (4 player and 5 player), and Ancient Mediterranean. Type: Normal, Anonymous, and Gunboat (anonymous and no press). Phase Lengths: 5 minutes to 10 days but only select values between. A good selection though. And then waiting period, so you can start a 5 minute phase length game but have it wait 2 days for enough people to join.

I'm curious what the Ancient Mediterranean map looks like. Didn't see any games that had actually been done with that map so couldn't see what it looks like.

jayp, do you have a link to a picture of that map?

I've created a user over there, as have a few others. Anyone else want to start an Ancient Mediterranean game? Or a 4 or 5 player South American game?

We've got http://dip.xbsd.kr/games/379 going as well. Some of the same players but 48 hour phases.

It's not that complicated to make own maps and it don't require sql- or php-knowlege . It just needs some time and commitment.
