An Apology to All I Have Troubled
Hey everyone it's me Zezima or Sniffy whichever you prefer... or don't prefer. The past couple days I have caused a lot of havoc here in the forums for my metagaming. I've come to say to all of you that I am sorry for what I have done. Right or Wrong it is not acceptable in this community and I will no longer metagame. I can only hope the community will accept my apology and maybe even forgive me for what I have done.

Sincerely,
Zezima

Unit Retreat question
If, for instance i had a fleet in the Gulf of Lyon and another on the South Coast of Spain which i then supported into the West Med, from the Gulf, would the enemy fleet that is already in the West Med be given the option of retreating to the Mid Atlantic?

The enemy fleet is from an Eastern nation and i am a Western power, if that makes any difference..

Anonymity
To avoid meta-gaming, is there a case for removing the names of players from the games they are involved in? perhaps you could just leave the score , shich changes regularly anyway as a guide to your contestants abilities?

Counterpart Countries
I've seen this theory that suggests that in the EFG and ART triangles there are coutries which are counterparts of each other (namely E-T F-R and G-A) such that they do well with each other and also have similar playing styles. What does your own experience show about this?

Submariner is untrustworthy and cannot read.
He turned on me in one game, then I got stuck in 2 more with him. He contacted me in both games to make an alliance again. I pointed out we are allies in 2 games so it could work our well, and he accused me of meta gaming.
Zeus68 (951 D)
01 Jun 09 UTC
Then he accused me and germ of multi-accounting, because he was too lazy to read.

I play on the same computer as someone else, I dont want to get banned

The data used to tell whether someone is a multi-accounter is a lot more thorough than just IPs. More evidence than just having the same IP is needed for a ban.
However if you know the other player well you may want to avoid playing in games with them, or you'll have an unfair advantage. You should at least let the other players in the game know that you know the other player in real life.
Zeus68 (951 D)
01 Jun 09 UTC
If you get in a game with him, he lies even more than most in this game, if that is possible and when you call him on it, he will flame you in posts as his mature response.
Zeus68 (951 D)
01 Jun 09 UTC
Is it meta-gaming to not trust someone who lies to you every chance they get?
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)

@ Zeus68
1. Arranging alliances across games is cheating (metagaming). If you do it on a regular basis this will get you in trouble - either you'll be banned if you do it too much - or at least you'll get a bad reputation and others will punish you for it by killing you first.
2. Lying and stabbing are a part of the game. Obviously there needs to be some balance as lying all the time makes no sense - but life-long alliances are just as bad. If you can't accept this then Dilomacy is not your game
3. You cannot say "this is how I play" because metagaming gives you an unfair advantage.
4. Play a bit more games and try to understand why people are telling you something is wrong before getting defensive. The fact someone else was a prick (?) does not give you justification to be one also :)
In reading what Zeus wrote, I'm not sure its metagaming. It looks like he is just saying 'we seem to work well together', not 'if you help me in game A, I will help you in game B'.
Zeus68,

It was pointed out in another thread that you are related to Germ. You are in many games with him. While you are not always given neighboring countries, you definitely take advantage of that fact when it develops. For example, in one game the two of you are Austria and Germany and have worked in synchronicity since 1901. That is my problem with the situation. You have profited from your relationship outside of the game. In my opinion, you and Germ should be removed from all games where you are both currently playing together. The other players will still be at a disadvantage since two players may take over and benefit from your strong position. So my feeling is that no one should be allowed to take over the CD countries for at least a year or two. That would allow the other players to recover from your metagaming advantage.

Can we stop using the term "metagaming"? What everyone seems to be complaining about is "cross gaming" and operating sock puppets.

I've had a lot of people accuse me of multi-ing/meta-ing in games: Submariner included. My response is always the same: Challenge me on the forum or shut up! Since no-one has challenged me yet, I assume they are just tantruming.

Submariner is just a person who likes to keep the game fair and tells the teacher to make sure it gets done.

Either way you put it. You were metagaming which is cheating and discouraged.

I am a teacher!
Submariner (111 D)

What I also am is someone who doesn't bother to read the names of the people I play with... Hence the approach in two games to see how we could work together... I always talk to everyone at the start of a game. This is after all Diplomacy.

And while in one game I was the last remaining player assisting you into War as you collapsed from 7 to 3 SCs, you are only mad now because you're upset that I took Bul from you in another game.

You're only flaming me now troll-boy because you were either too stupid to see that stab coming, or too stupid to thin I would fall for your stupid builds as being unthreatening!
Submariner (111 D)
01 Jun 09 UTC
What I also find interesting is that Zeus joined the two other games at the precise time I was helping him in our first match... and then immediately offered me the cross game support.

That just isn't how this game should be played.

How the heck can you have a problem with an Astro-german alliance?? That's a completey natural, and often critical alliance. Now, if it was, say, England, turkey and italy or something, that'd be weird in most cases. But Germany and Austria???
