An Apology to All I Have Troubled
Hey everyone it's me Zezima or Sniffy whichever you prefer... or don't prefer. The past couple days I have caused a lot of havoc here in the forums for my metagaming. I've come to say to all of you that I am sorry for what I have done. Right or Wrong it is not acceptable in this community and I will no longer metagame. I can only hope the community will accept my apology and maybe even forgive me for what I have done.

Sincerely,
Zezima

Unit Retreat question
If, for instance i had a fleet in the Gulf of Lyon and another on the South Coast of Spain which i then supported into the West Med, from the Gulf, would the enemy fleet that is already in the West Med be given the option of retreating to the Mid Atlantic?

The enemy fleet is from an Eastern nation and i am a Western power, if that makes any difference..

Anonymity
To avoid meta-gaming, is there a case for removing the names of players from the games they are involved in? perhaps you could just leave the score , shich changes regularly anyway as a guide to your contestants abilities?

countries win percentage last 1000 games
this is the stats I collected manually for the last 1000 finished games:
DRAW: 20.2% TURKEY: 14.1% RUSSIA: 13.8% FRANCE: 13.1% ENGLAND: 12.9% GERMANY: 9.1% AUSTRIA: 9.1% ITALY: 7.7%
jbalcorn (429 D)

I'm actually quite surprised at only 20% draws.

Of course, those may be skewed by the increase in multi-accounting that seems to be going on, and the games that had multiple CDs because of it.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
29 May 09 UTC
Manually? That's one heck of an effort.

I have a database dump, so if you want these things done, email rather than putting that level effort in!
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Interesting to see the low level of draws, and that Turkey is keeping the lead still.
grncton (672 D)

I'm curious how Italy and Germany's numbers are impacted by the fact that a number of games here start with Italy and occasionally Germany in CD. I think that this might make those numbers artificially low, and that for games that the Kaiser plays from the beginning, Germany's win percent might be closer to England's than Austria's.
Centurian (3257 D)

I can never understand how Turkey does it. I'm pretty convinced Turkey should never win because its so hard to cross the stalemate lines. Its the only country I haven't won with.
freakflag (690 D)
29 May 09 UTC
Don't forget the fact that is PPSC games, many players will keep fighting all their neighbors in the end game to try to have as many SCs as possible, instead of banding together against the common enemy. Turkey has a good position to gain a lot of SCs, but is bad against a united front because of the stalemate lines. If that united front never occurs, Turkey can win.
Razz (144 D)
29 May 09 UTC
How often do you really see the stalemate lines develop though? In my experience, that only happens when you're playing against the very toughest of opponents.
OMGNSO (415 D)
29 May 09 UTC
If the group is all at the same level stalemate line are more likely to occur. If there is 1 weak link it falls apart.
Centurian (3257 D)
29 May 09 UTC
Well I've been playing alot of organised or high pot level games, so maybe I've seen more stalemate lines than the average game.

It would be interesting to see what the win ratios would be in games that have high average ghost-rating players. I bet you would see alot more draws and alot more convergence in wins.

So I have been Turkey 0 times, Russia, 0 times and Italy 4 times in 8 games...

Hmmm...... Has someone got it in for me?!
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

WTA and High end players leads to many more draws. Look at GFDT and, although there is the tall poppy syndrome, the leagues too.
Braveheart (2408 D(S))
31 May 09 UTC
GFDT and league format naturally lends itself to more draws in my opinion. Am interested that success rates for Germany are quite low on this site... not that I have ever done particularly well with as a sausage sucker. I expected France to be higher than Turkey. With the Turk participating in a higher number of draws given it's relatively secure position.

well kestas and theghostmaker i m interested in all kind of stats. could u email some to [email protected]?
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

At the moment I have all the data in a mess that only I could understand (its all an unlabelled jumble of numbers).

Over the summer I'm going to work on improving it. I can however give you a link to a database dump, but its best to leave that down to Kestas' discretion I think, given he hasn't said that I can give the link out to anyone.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
31 May 09 UTC
Note: If you can bare the wait until I have finished my exams, I shall be working on this kind of thing over the summer.

Wow, you did that manually? That's some dedication.

Turkey is always a genie in a bottle. In many games it does poorly, but it has excellent chances once it really breaks out into the Balkans. I think it's pretty hard to arrange a grand alliance against a large Turkey.

Chrispminis (916 D)

You did? I could have told you that. Turkey has had the highest win percentage every time stats like this are cobbled up for phpDip, which has happened a few times.

How are there so many games ending in draws? I have only drawn two games out of 62 completed.

Granted, some of the games I completed were ones that I was using to boost my points before the point system was fixed... you know, joining as a CD country just to die ASAP. But it wasn't THAT many...

Counterpart Countries
I've seen this theory that suggests that in the EFG and ART triangles there are coutries which are counterparts of each other (namely E-T F-R and G-A) such that they do well with each other and also have similar playing styles. What does your own experience show about this?

Submariner is untrustworthy and cannot read.
He turned on me in one game, then I got stuck in 2 more with him. He contacted me in both games to make an alliance again. I pointed out we are allies in 2 games so it could work our well, and he accused me of meta gaming.
