Anyone interested in playing a live game?

We'd create a game, put a 1 hour limit on it, but the phases would be more like 20 minutes. Start at 3pm EST? Have 3 interested so far.

sexism in diplomacy

I just noticed that the gamemaster assumes all players are males.
example "GameMaster: chelsea has withdrawn his vote for a pause"

I think this needs to be changed in the next update

Limited Diplomacy variants?

Have there been any varients with limited Diplomacy? Such as
1) Only allowed 20 words of press per turn
2) Allowed 10 words of press per country per year
3) Only allowed press in the Spring
4) Only allowed 1 communication with each country per turn (one sent and one received)

The fourth was discussed earlier, and seemed to be an incredibly interesting idea.

There would have to be a balance between trying to send early, and make sure you got your interests heard, or sending last and having the last say, and making sure you weren't both waiting until the other says something so you could have the last say, which would result in no messages being exchanged (or exchanged, but not read due to lack of time).

What I like about #4 is that it is probably somewhat historically accurate... .maybe not for the 20th century battles, but in battles of previous centuries, there wasn't instantaneous communication, so you didn't get endless banter.

Or how about every 5 communication gets intercepted and published to another country.

that would be wild! but you couldn't make the interception so formulaic. otherwise, you just don't send important info in that one.

What about you could try to spy on other countries' communications? A large chance you get nothing. A small chance you get an actual communication. And another small chance that the other country is alerted and is able to feed you a false message.

One thing you could do in order to save space is code your word's. Assuming you are not going to insult another country straight out of the blocks, the code "Blitz" could mean that you intend to attack the mutal enemy in S01.

Throughout the game, your statements must either all be complete lies or complete truths. You choose one set at the beginning of the game and do not switch mid-game.

Unoriginal Original Thoughts

Have you ever come up with a fantastic thought or idea, only to find out it's been done before? Tell us about it.

This just happened to me and I'd like to share my frustration. In addition, I'd like for us as a community to coin a succinct word for this phenomenon. Extra irony points if someone finds a word that already describes this.
