Rules Question - What happens?
Let's say you have territories A, B, C, and D all of which can move into one another.
Country 1 controls A and B, country 2 controls C and D.
Country one moves A to C with support from B, meanwhile Country two moves C to A with support from D.

Change passwords

Can two countries playing the same game change his passwords so one can make the turn of the other?? is this allowed??
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)
22 Apr 09 UTC
Yes, you can give your password to another player from the same game. But there better be some really good reason for it and you have made sure everyone else (in the game) is ok with this. Otherwise you'll probably be banned for multi-accounting.
Robyrt (113 D)
22 Apr 09 UTC
Seconded - you'll have to make sure everybody else is OK with what you're doing. Proxying orders is usually a setting people know about before beginning the game, and this "total proxy" is even more drastic. You'd be able to send messages as the player you're taking over!
Xapi (194 D)

It would be best to find a sitter you're not playing with though.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
22 Apr 09 UTC
Obviously it depends on the game in question, but I would strongly dissuade you.
The problem is that if the other person has your password there's no way anyone could break the alliance no matter how good their diplomacy which is unfair.
dangermouse (5551 D)

Is this a case where one person needs a gamesitter while they are away for a short period? Or is this a takeover-for-the-rest-of-the-game type thing?
zathe25 (100 D)

Also if the person turned on you and changed your password you wouldn't be able to get it back

I think Danikine (with whom Djbent and I are on good terms, right?) refers to this game:
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=9481
England (Djbent) and Frace (myself) have stable stalemate lines and we have input the same orders for years.
Danikine hopes that one of us will eventually miss a turn.
Meaning that *IF* I asked Djbent to input my orders she wouldn't have any disgression on what to input but would just repeat the same orders over and over until Danikine accepts the stalemate.
ThomasB (742 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
Would that be unfair?
ThomasB (742 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
Also: What would you do in Austria's place? Accept a draw?
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
Yes, this game is a clear draw - and waiting for someone to miss a turn, so that you'll break through their stalemate line is wrong on so many levels...

i m trying to convince france to change sides, england came with a 9 SC and just call the draw, one season of play and wants to get the points. The points i will friendly sharewith france but not england.
danikine74 (167 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
i mean england was 9 SC in CD and then Djbent took control, one season after calls a draw...
djbent (2572 D(S))
24 Apr 09 UTC
oh it's fine, austria can keep battling it out. we'll work something out for when france has to take a flight back to the states - a sitter or something. no need to debate this in the forum really.
Hereward77 (930 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
If France won't agree then that's tough...England's diplomacy is obviously better than yours.
djbent (2572 D(S))
24 Apr 09 UTC
well france also benefits more from a draw than a survive. so it's not as much about diplomacy as appealing to the desire for the best possible outcome. but thanks for the credit! =P

if you need a sitter my email is in my profile
djbent (2572 D(S))
24 Apr 09 UTC
actually, i take that back. i think it's bad form to just keep going when it's a stalemate and you're simply hoping someone on the opposite side will make a mistake in their orders. what do others think?
djbent (2572 D(S))
24 Apr 09 UTC
starting a new thread on the topic.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
24 Apr 09 UTC
djbent, just curious how many points you had to pay to take over England? I assume a fair chunk of the pot were your points since you were taking over more than a quarter of the supply centes. So a draw for you might only make a minimal amount.

Danikine74, it isn't as if djbent is walking out the door with his pockets bulging. He would just get the points he put in plus a bit. And a win for the old pot amount might not have been very much more than a three way draw for the new pot amount.
djbent (2572 D(S))
24 Apr 09 UTC
i don't recall alderian, i didn't join for points, i joined because i saw a decent position CD in a game i thought would be made more enjoyable without a CD.

and it's she and her, for the record =)
Sharing the passwords would be wrong. Currently, Danikine can attempt diplomacy on the 2 players playing France and England, hoping to get one to turn on the other. If its the same person playing both, then thats no longer true.
djbent (2572 D(S))
24 Apr 09 UTC
@dingle - absolutely agreed. that's why we were trying to end this thread (since it's not going to happen) and make the new thread about stalemates (or perceived stalemates lol ;) )
dangermouse (5551 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
If several years pass with no movement and it is obviously a stalemate then you ought to accept the draw.

I have to disagree with those who say it is okay for a player in a game to submit orders for another country. There is no provision in the rules of Diplomacy for that to happen. None. Each player plays one country only, and if a player cannot submit his own orders, the country's units do not move, according to the rules. Period. We allow a sitter from outside the game, but that doesn't violate the rules or the spirit of the game. One player submitting orders for two countries violates both.
spyman (424 D(G))
27 Apr 09 UTC
I think this is wrong also. Essentially it is multi-accounting. Game sitters should come from outside the game IMHO.

Player Won't Finalize!
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=10214

In this game, the player of Austria (mutface) won't finalize because he wants to survive for as long as possible. He clearly stated this in the global chat. Is there a way to force the game to continue? I for one, do not have the patience to wait 35 hours.

Mechanics of CD
I thought when someone went CD that was it. I'm in a game where a player in a losing position purposely won't finalize because he's being obnoxious (That's not speculation. He said so in global chat). He went CD, but now he's active again, even though he's not putting in any orders. If a CD player comes into a game, do they have the option of re-activating?

Rule issue.
My Diplomacy rulebook at home says that support can be supported (the 2000 version). I thought this site followed to normal rules of Diplomacy. If so, I should have gotten Tunis, right (see the next post for the link)?
