In my opinion there should be a mini test on entry. Down the left hand side of the page would be in friendly terms, the basic rules of the game, and on the right a series of questions, for which the answers would be in the paragraph beside it. Adding a set of rules to this page would help also I agree.
The biggest advantage of this would be that it tests peoples basic understanding, reducing the number of times the same questions come up on here (why can't I support-hold this unit that didn't move is a very common one!).
The next release already has email-checking features, but as yet that's the only improvement to the signup system.

Well, I thought that writing a sensible intro-test would actually mean that they felt more welcomed. Obviously it wouldn't be difficult, but just to help people get the right idea. A step in the right direction would be just to put a simple intro in the login process, even if all they had to do was click 'OK' at the bottom.

Yeah, I defiantly think a better intro to the game is in order. At least, the registration page could link to the rules in the help section.

It has been suggested before that there be a statement that players have to agree to in order to activate an account or activate taking a country.
Stabbeurfou has an interesting Commitment notice when a game starts that a person will not drop out if things go badly for them.

I fully support a check list for people at the point of joining. Though I am sure people will disagree with what is on that check list but certainly two things that should be listed as #1 and #2 is that
1. You may only have ONE account on this site
2. You are expected to play a game to the end regardless of your chances of success.

I do not know about a mini test FOR entry, but a mini test of skills for anyone might not be bad.

I have written a player guide (about 6 pages) for new players, and we could get it down further to some shorter points, but the current code priorities do not allow for a reasonable expectation that any of this will happen here.

Would people be willing to brainstorm a checklist of things players need to agree to and see if Kestas will add it to the registration page?

Edi, do you have your new player guide online or somewhere accessible? I would be interested in reading it and referencing it to new players.

i fully support Edi's suggestion. the site must let the new players know that multiaccounting is not allowed

I propose the pacifist option to end multi-accounting. We let them hammer us into the ground, take all our points....get board and then leave us alone.

I think that we might discourage new players if they find they have to write a quiz to join!

I think a better solution would be to give players the opportunity to write a quiz and should they pass they receive a one time point bonus to help them out in the start.
