I disagree with Diplomat's proposal to restrict the forum. The non-game related threads are easly ignored, no matter how controversial. If someone wants to post something about a game they have the ability. I enjoy reading both kinds of threads, and restricting the forum would only dull it down.

I believe that the forum should be used to discuss any topic that we may think of, within the limits of reason, of course. Diplomat, stop trying to make a splash with stupid suggestions like not using the forum for anything other than strategical or multi-accounting discussions. The only thing you are doing is ticking off more members of this site. Besides, I find expressing my opinion on a variety of subjects to be quite stimulating, and the fact of the matter is that reading a variety of threads passes the time when you are waiting that last 15 minutes or so before the end of the next phase in one or more of your games. So I say post on everyone (except diplomat)!!

I'm not asking Kestas/Mods to put restrictions on the forum, I'm just saying that everyone should make a mutual pact to reserve the forum for relevant content.

Well, I haven't started playing here yet, but... I am wondering why you are so quick to reject people who are interested in joining your community (myself in this case)? It doesn't seem to be the best way to grow. Happy to have a serious debate if that's what you want -- I have changed the settings on my email so it shows.

Yes - I would love too! But I'm stuck in another game at the other site (quitters suck, so I won't do that) and I don't have time to devote to more than 1 game. My impression is that players who play too many games at once are not good for gameplay. And, I only jumped into the conversation so quickly because I saw "diplomat1924" posting stuff, and really wondered if he was the mod from the other site. I had such a bad experience over there it wouldn't have surprised me and I was happy to point out the possibility... then I got stuck in conversations. I'll tone it down until I have some game experience at this site. Thanks!

Herecomesahorses. If you want to become part of a the community then playing games with members is the best way to start. If you devoted the time you spent on the forum to playing a game then I'm sure that would be more than enough.

I dont see anything wrong with herecomesahorse, he has some strange comments on here, but even i have the occasional off comment. Im not sure where the sudden dislike of him has come from.

If we didn't have all the bizarre discussions here, this forum would pretty quiet. I like them. It gives a chance to get to know each other better. Also I think this forum attracts a lot of very smart people. I like to think about what people have to say about various topics. I like to add my own thoughts, and if someone can effectively rebut what I have to say - that is best of all.

I know I don't post here so often - it's a time issue for me and playing two to three games at any one time is bad enough for me. However, I still very much enjoy reading the posts on the forum, and I have to say that I particularly enjoy the weird, off-topic (the topic being Diplomacy) ones. I think there are a number of really good and entertaining debaters on this site (many of whom I disagree with very much, but I enjoy reading what they write anyway, especially if they're sarcastic and /or witty) and it would be a great loss if posters had to confine themselves to writing only Diplomacy-related posts, IMHO. So keep the forum as an anything-goes forum, instead of reducing it to a dreary I'm-a-noob-and-I-have-a-stupid-question-because-I-haven't-taken- the-time-to-read-the-rules type of place.

Kestas has made it pretty clear that the forum is a place to create a sense of community. Otherwise, the only place for any phpDiplomacy chatting is in each individual game, and that really limits the available pool of players to talk to.

Therefore... Kestas intended for the forum to be used for chatting about non-diplomacy related topics as well.

Vote no on Proposition Diplomat1824. :P
