Learnt something new about the Dip Rules yesterday...Spaces with 2 Coasts
I may not be the only one but I did not realize that a fleet can support a unit sitting on a coast it cannot access. So for instance, a Fleet in the West Med supported a fleet sitting on the Spanish North Coast. Learn something new every day...

Now I have officially seen everything. Thoughts? Is race a "choice"?

Split's Top 7 Active Gunboaters Series Results for games 19-22
Title a bit of a misnomer for these 4 games as one of the 7 players was not particularly experienced at gunboat.

The Literary Circle: Under Milk Wood: Dylan Thomas (ISBN: 9781780227245)
As my first discussion subject, I have chosen Dylan Thomas's "Under Milk Wood", a semi-comic dream-like short story, part narrative poem, part "play for voices".

Krellins Konsulting
It's been so long since I have passed my wisdom upon this wretched lot. And...having so recently been castigated as a *bad bad* boy....I thought perhaps that I should endeavor to pass my lessons-learned upon the woefully inadequate intellectual buffoons that truly need my help. So please...

Not that this tells us much about humans, but the conclusion of 'maybe human tool use developed in the same way' is still interesting.

I had to put my dog down today
:'( :'( :'( :'(
I loved coming home to that dog. She was the best dog in the world. Always cheered me up after a bad day.

Death is a cruel cruel thing. Let's all take this time to remember our past animals and the happiness they provided us

Since I have been an adult, I have had four pets.

Jasmine (My cat, her decision). Literally, I went into a friend's pet store and looked into a frolicking mass of kittens playing in a cage. I said, "Okay, who wants to come home with me?" She immediately stopped playing an sat up looking at me. I was not a cat person & she was a challenging pet, but also an exceptionally loving one. I would come in after a day at work and lay down on the couch & hear her trill of a meow from another room as she ran to jump on my chest as a welcome.

Sebastian was too smart for his own good, but a portly gentleman of a cat. He took it upon himself to greet everyone as they entered the house (family, friend, stranger) they all received his welcome at the door. He was an absolutely pampered cat. He belonged to my wife before I met her. She would leave the faucet running in the bathroom sink all day so that he could have fresh running water to drink out of the tap whenever he wanted.

Coda, is the kindest and gentlest dog (although quite mistrustful of strangers). His bark is totally worse than his non-existent bite. He is laying on the floor beside my chair right now, and I confess to being a little unsettled at the thought, once again, that he is becoming very old (13 years old). He was, once again, one of my spur-of-the-moment acquisitions.

I was looking at pure-bread dogs and went to the vet to talk about the price for the first year shots, surgeries, etc. The vet said "We've got a pup in the back who got hit by a car. We patched his leg up and you can have him if you want. Already has all his shots." I walked back and saw the black lab mix puppy and that was it.

A distinct yin to Coda's yang, Bishop is a Jack Russell terrier. I said earlier that I am a dog person. Let me amend that by saying I am a big dog person. I fear that I traumatized this little guy for the first year, but we have finally gotten a good working relationship & he will sit in my lap every time he gets the chance. We have both been actively reinforcing a bond in this way. He sits. I scratch. He licks. It is T.V. time.

Good pets all in their own way. I have been fortunate. I hope that I have been good enough to them.

Sorry for your loss ERAUfan, They always stay with you.

Sorry for all your losses, but holy shit that is an insane waste of fresh water.
Yes, it was. I persuaded her that just a bowl of fresh water for him would be okay. I don't think he ever truly forgave me for that, but he handled the inconvenience with his usual grace :-)

Thank you all for your condolences. I am doing better but keep tearing up because I hear that song 'if today was your last day' by Nickelback over and over in my head. It was the song that was playing in the vets front office as I walked out....

That absolutely sucks; I put down two cats 2 years ago a month apart. 1 was the vestige of my bachelor days. Met me when I was moving into a new apartment. Was with me 11 years afterward. Second was my step-daughter's. A pretty young guy but he ate something outside that just shut his system down.

We just adopted a new dog to serve as a "bridge" pet. Our oldest, Jack, is really lame now, and starting to not be able to get around. He's 15 or 16 years old. Our second, Keltie, is about 12 and still in good health. We're not sure Jack will make it through the summer, so Maizey is our new one, at 9 months.

All that to say, I commiserate, and I'm sorry about your loss. Sucks!

ERAU - Sorry to hear that man. Put down more than a few pets over the years. My family also fosters pets for the animal shelter... Sometimes they come sick and we lose them... So I'm well acquainted with how much it can hurt to lose an animal friend. Hang in there... And go adopt a stay in need! It helps in more ways than one!

@CA: when you said "Jasmine (my cat, her decision)" I took that as you saying that she made the choice to be a cat. I was totally glued to the paragraph waiting for the punchline.

I've had too many cats for it to be appropriate. I had one cat until age 9, then 21 of them until age 14 (outdoor cat, not fixed + stray = 3 generations of cats fed on table scraps), then 2 others during high school, I picked up 3 when I moved out and got married, one died, and we gave one away, and just recently got a kitten.

So, about one each year of my life. It's hard to not read that and still post this with any dignity left.

My only pet I have had (other than the occasional goldfish) was Lucy the parakeet. Lucy was actually a boy, but the previous owners did not realize this before naming him. He was a bit of a jerk to everyone except me. Unless you gave him oats, he would run away from you. If caught, he would bite fingers really hard. Luckily he had a soft spot for me (feeding them will do that), and didn't mind being put on the shoulder and carried around. Never got him to talk though. I didn't get him when he was young enough.

I am truly sorry to hear about the losses of your beloved pets. Cherish every moment with your current ones. You all have had way more losses than I have. My condolences to all of you

@Brian and krellin. Thank you both. But I dont think we're ready for another animal. We still have two cats

I'm feeling the pain with ya buddy. My 5 year old ferret died today, cutest little fuzzy girl ever. Been a bit of a rough one, was completely out of the blue.

Not sure if my toddler son even realizes she's not around yet or will be able to understand, really not looking forward to that conversation.
