Learnt something new about the Dip Rules yesterday...Spaces with 2 Coasts
I may not be the only one but I did not realize that a fleet can support a unit sitting on a coast it cannot access. So for instance, a Fleet in the West Med supported a fleet sitting on the Spanish North Coast. Learn something new every day...

Now I have officially seen everything. Thoughts? Is race a "choice"?

Split's Top 7 Active Gunboaters Series Results for games 19-22
Title a bit of a misnomer for these 4 games as one of the 7 players was not particularly experienced at gunboat.

The Literary Circle: Under Milk Wood: Dylan Thomas (ISBN: 9781780227245)
As my first discussion subject, I have chosen Dylan Thomas's "Under Milk Wood", a semi-comic dream-like short story, part narrative poem, part "play for voices".

It's been so long since I have passed my wisdom upon this wretched lot. And...having so recently been castigated as a *bad bad* boy....I thought perhaps that I should endeavor to pass my lessons-learned upon the woefully inadequate intellectual buffoons that truly need my help. So please...

Research shows chimp tool use...
... Appears gender biased.

Not that this tells us much about humans, but the conclusion of 'maybe human tool use developed in the same way' is still interesting.

It makes sense that those that learn to use tools are those whose lives are not preoccupied with birthing and raising offspring as mothers among both chimps and humans do. Nature has different things for different sexes - big deal.

Obviously Bo didn't read the article...
Yaleunc (11052 D(B))
11 Jun 15 UTC
This article is more like "the male chimps can catch the prey with their hands, so they don't need to use tools as often". It also mentions that the type of chimps in question allow non-alphas to keep/eat what they catch so more incentive for hunting by them. Whereas in lots of other chimp societies the alpha takes whatever anyone else catches anyway, so why bother using tools to catch prey you won't get to benefit from (as much).
Yaleunc (11052 D(B))
11 Jun 15 UTC
Also orathaic's headline here is quite a stretch from what the article actually says. The article is just about tool use in hunting, not general tool use. And even for hunting the stats from the article show that 57% of the recorded hunting with tools was by females vs 43% by males (175 vs 130).

bo is a tool; he doesn't need to read the article to have an expert opinion on the subject.

"bo's the worst" -a chimp
orathaic (1009 D(B))
11 Jun 15 UTC
I'm pretty sure 57 - 43 is a bias in favour of one gender.

But you're right about the hunting versus general tool use.

Though as far as i'm aware most tool use among chimps relates to getting food.
Like tasty ants out of ant hills... Not exactly hunting but still, all about the food.
