Gray check in gunboats
So.. why do people put a gray check (orders saved, not ready) in gunboat games? There is no press to be exchanged, so you're not waiting on others. In press games, sometimes people sync the phases with their real life schedule, but even that doesn't work here - it's just 5 minutes every x hours, and you agreed to a specific x.

On the etiquette of the laundary room.
YJ is so confused, webdippers - I need your help.

I live in a secured building, with about 40 other tenants. There are three washing machines, and three dryers. Today when I went to do my laundry, I found that the washing machines were all full of some neighbor's clothes - though the wash cycle was done.

Because of the limited availability, I pulled the clothes and stacked them atop the dryer, so that I might begin my own wash cycle. When I returned 40 minutes later to move my own laundry to the dryer, I found a rather nasty note, telling my how disrespectful this was, and how the landlord has been notified, and old YJ should "just wait."

Am I in the wrong here? What is the etiquette of the shared laundry room? How long does custom dictate I wait for a person to return before taking matters into my own hands? Would I be within my rights to jizz all over their clothes in the dryer, and/or leave a response notifying them as such?

Your neighbor took up all 3 washers and didn't check on them when they were done?

He should be thankful you didn't did pile them on the floor.

Next time just pour fabric softener on them and restart the wash cycle.

What, out of interest, is a secured building?

At the local laundrette you tend to leave washing be until the owners come to collect it, but in busy periods you're expected to turn up pretty sharpish after it's finished. I would be inclined to wait ten minutes, and if there's no sign of anyone it's fair game.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

@Putin basically agree - never had a problem with this in general, and if the clothes were in the dryer I always fold them when I take them out for the other guy as a courtesy, and that's going above and beyond even, I thought.

@ Oct A secured building just means you need a key to get into the apartment proper - it means it was a neighbor, and I want to be neighborly, so I'm taking the high road and electing to forgo any nastiness.

Why should you be neighbourly if your actual neighbours don't return the favour? If the landlord's going to get involved, you might as well make it fun!

Well, first of all, I seriously doubt they did actually notify the landlord (they couldn't possibly know who I am, for starters). IMO it's just white trash making idle threats. To the other, I feel it's just not worth it to respond in kind. Feuding with a neighbor can be a nightmare, and if I can avoid it by waiting another hour just this once for the damn dryer, I'm willing to swallow my pride and let it pass.

I'm definitely going to continue pulling clothes when they aren't checked up on, though.

The guy was lucky you didn't keep his clothes and sell them. If he's using all the machines then he should have had the courtesy to empty them when they were done. He should have had a good idea of how long it would take and be there within 10 minutes.

When I was in college we had a guy who didn't know how to do laundry and took even his underwear to a dry cleaner. No one showed him how because it was too much fun to point him out as the guy who got his underwear dry cleaned.

That reminds me, I need to do laundry... thanks.

YJ, all you do is leave his clothes in the washer, start another cycle on a bad setting, and keep on washing his clothes over and over again with a shit ton of fabric softener until he picks them up.
Squigs44 (273 D)

Where I am at, if you dont take your clothes out at the precise moment the cycle finishes, you can expect that your clothes will be placed in a plastic bag (which is supplied by someone I guess??) and placed in a pile in the corner of the room. There is a line for laundry during the weekends, so this happens all the time. I also heard of someone living in another building whose clothes were stolen when he didnt show up on time. YJ, I dont think you were wrong at all.

YJ, you did exactly the right thing. If the other person has a problem with it, it's the other person that needs schooled in the art of laundry room etiquette, not you.

And NOT getting into an unnecessary feud with said other person is a perfect case of abiding by enlightened self-interest. Or at the very least it's a wise move.
Putin33 (111 D)

If OS said YJ did the right thing, he must have done the wrong thing. Nothing Outside Smoker recommends about etiquette can possibly be true.

Why does softening someone's clothes constitute a punishment, exactly?
pangloss (363 D)
29 Sep 14 UTC
Well, my suggestion was to pour the fabric softener directly onto the clothes. That stains them.

Hi, we have had 2 resignations - so would appreciate someone filling in for England and France. They're not in ideal situations but have 3-4 SCs each and can improve their position via alliances.

In these troubled times, one must not forget to ask the important question in life:
What to do with my hair? The volume combined with my 'refusal' to use gel etc. and my lack of interest in spending more than a minute 'getting it right' make the current situation unsustainable. Should I just get a haircut or start spending some more time/products on my hair, or make some other change? If a haircut, what kind of haircut? I'd rather not do what everyone else does and I don't want to have to use gel.
Hence I ask you, wise men: What do with my hair?
