I've been seeing games with these phases for a while now, and the reason for them has eluded me. While the shortness of the phase in comparison with the standard 1-day phase makes the game much faster than normal non-live games, the length of the phase makes sleep deprivation a certainty, causing severe errors of judgement and mistakes entering moves vastly more frequent. The sleep issue will also make sleep causing players to miss turns or go CD unintentionally vastly more probable. While it provides much more room for diplomacy than live games, the sleep issue seems to me to vastly outweigh the hastening of the game. If people wanted to play a fast game with some room for diplomacy, a game with 20 or 30 minute phases would gain the same hastening benefit without the sleep issue coming into the picture. Your thoughts on why people choose to create and play in these games?
