Just another shining example of the efficiency and accountability that a healthy democracy brings to managing a government.
Why doesn't the US Govt just sell Hawaii and Alaska to the Chinese, they should stave off the debt crisis for now.

Possible iOS6 bug
If I have 2 navies adjacent in the moves list then I can't issue the 3rd part of a support move or convoy order in safari or chrome for the upper navy! It's really frustrating! So far I'm just having to choose alternate moves but lately it's really hurt me a few times. Any idea what's going on here?

There is nothing wrong with buying and selling animals. Or eating them. Eating that delicious, delicious meat they have on them.

And getting colon cancer from it. Justice.

Eating meat doesn't give you colon cancer. Not eating it does tend to give you pretentiousdickitus, however.

"Eating meat doesn't give you colon cancer."

Keep telling yourself that.

" Not eating it does tend to give you pretentiousdickitus, however."

A frat boy calling someone a pretentious dick because he doesn't eat smoked pig carcass in sufficient quantities? Good one.
Invictus (240 D)

I graduated a year and a half ago. If the fratboy comment was ever an effective insult it isn't now.

Eating meat doesn't cause colon cancer. The study to link to, assuming it isn't full of shit, says eating too much red or processed meats can increase your risk of colon cancer. I don't think anyone ever thought wolfing down a half pound of pastrami every day was good for you. That's way different than saying just eating meat causes colon cancer, but why let inconvenient information get in the way of your own personal propaganda campaign?
Putin33 (111 D)
02 Oct 13 UTC
Right, and because every study is written in the form of doing X increases risk of Y, that's the best response you can come up with.

Yes, those of us who choose not to eat meat are automatically pretentious dicks. You're doing a great job of getting rid of the asshole frat guy stereotype.

He didn't say that, ghug. He said it *tends* to make you so.

Gosh, what it is with vegetarians and misinterpreting causal statements?
fulhamish (4134 D)
02 Oct 13 UTC
It seems pretty clear, at least in men that cancer, particularly colon cancer, is correlated to obesity. (e.g., http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23481261). Is that correlation, however, indicative of causation? Might the obese also more likely to be smokers and/or sedentary and/or consumers of above average amounts of processed foods, particularly red meat? Or any of these permutations, and more?
I tend to like bull dogs

ckroberts (3548 D)

I feel obligated to say that I'm libertarian(ish) and I do not support the buying, selling, or in almost all cases eating of animals.

Also, the best kinds of dogs are mutts, because they are the best. Jack Russells are delightful, though. Georgia Bulldogs are awful, awful creatures.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
02 Oct 13 UTC
Butler Bulldogs are pretty awesome.

If the meat is farmed, fed organically, and treated humanely throughout its life however short it may be, eating meat is fine. If the meat is captured, fed a bunch of shit to make it fatter and injected with more shit to make it fatter, and treated like you treat the casual fruit fly in your pantry, then it's not okay.
Invictus (240 D)

"the best kinds of dogs are mutts, because they are the best."

Can argue with that kind of logic.

"A frat boy calling someone a pretentious dick because...."

I think it *hillarious* when Putin asccidently reveals the true source of his angst and hate. He no doubt a ridiculous looking, perhaps ugly, socially awkward twat who never was accepted by the "in" crowd...so he has instead decided to reject anything "popular" or "main stream" and constantly drifts towards whatever is radical and outspoken, because it is only amongst the troglodytes and social rejects where he feels comfortable and accepted.

Awww....I almost feel sorry for that ass clown Putin, that shit sucking dog cock. But I don't..

Putin33 (111 D)

Just because you pay to have friends doesn't mean you are not socially awkward. It just means you have money to blow.
Invictus (240 D)

Again, I graduated a year and a half ago. This is the Who Let the Dogs Out of insults.
Invictus (240 D)

And, to be clear, you don't buy your friends. You pool resources with your friends in order to do things like maintain a house or throw bigger versions of the parties everyone throws in college. I can only speak for our chapter, but no one was ever denied a bid or kicked out for inability to pay dues. "Paying for friends" is a canard.

But again, I'm an alumn now. Undergraduate Greek life couldn't be further from my mind now. Strange you should obsess over the details of my life so.

On foreign policy: Russia and China in the 21st century - redhouse forum item 5000
Ladies, Gentlemen,
For my 5000th forum contribution I would like to propose the topic above. What are Russia's and China's roles in the 21st century? Do the Lavrov-Kerry conversations on Syria mark a turning point in how Diplomacy is conducted? How far will China's growing influence stretch?

Can you imagine how much more exciting US politics would be if there were three houses, and only two of them were required to pass a bill?

(I don't suggest this for prudential reasons -- just political spectator motivations).

Looking for re-match replacements
gameID=123838 just ended--110 point buy in with some pretty reputable players. I'm setting up a rematch--it was a good game--but not everyone from the original game is interested/available.

I've created a 130 point anon WTA which will consist of largely the same group, but we'll need a replacement or two. So far we have MarekP, Feeniks, and me confirmed for the rematch, while Sylvania is out this time. I'll post the others here as they confirm their interest.
