New Game
I would like to start a new Full Press, WTA game with 48 hour phase lengths. I think the pot size should be 101 but I am flexible on that. Is anyone interested?

George Zimmerman arrested (again)
If only there were signs! If only there was some hint that he could behave violently with a gun! If only there was some way we could have known!

I Need a Mod
I need a mod to take a look at some reason postings in the thread I maintain, the Daily Bible Reading because a player is posting extremely offensive material of a graphic sexual nature that is completely unrelated to the topic. I muted him, but want to know if this is permitted or if it can be deleted from the Forum.

I need a God
I need a God to take a look at some reason postings in the prayers I maintain, the King James Bible because a neighbour is posting extremely offensive material of a graphic sexual nature that is completely unrelated to the topic. I forgave him, but want to know if this is permitted or if it can be deleted from the Universe.

I just noticed a game that was pending start had 7 players and since a player has left. This used to not be possible. Is this a new feature or is it an error?

The Return of NFL Pick 'em: Week 1 (Plus your picks for Playoff Teams + The Super Bowl!)
So a day late and seven Peyton TDs later--damn, he was great last night!--NFL Pick 'em is back...
So, besides the Broncos/Ravens game, pick the winners for the Week 1 match-ups...THEN pick your playoff teams (the 1-6 seeds for each conference) and then, of course...your Super Bowl match-up and champs.
So, NFL, Week 1...PICK 'EM!

UN asks the USA to review the Trayvon Martin case.

Whaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaaha that is just absolutely beautiful. The organization that is so pathetically toothless when it comes to real, actual problems such as in Syria now decides to focus on this complete non-issue. They must really belong to another planet. How about homosexuals in Russia? These laws strike me as a slightly more interesting case to dedicate efforts to.

To the rest of the world, the treatment of the Black community by the police (who killed at least 136 unarmed black people in 2012 alone) and the criminal justice system easily seems as bad as the Russia treatment of the LGBTQ* community. Which is to say, both are terrible, and trying to deflect attention away from one by using the other is something that both sides do (e.g. Russia has used the actions of the NYPD to justify their police repression).

"To the rest of the world, the treatment of the Black community by the police (who killed at least 136 unarmed black people in 2012 alone) and the criminal justice system easily seems as bad as the Russia treatment of the LGBTQ* community."

The rest of the world minus myself, and I'm not from the US or even US-related.

The UN? They just need to be given the finger and told to piss-off and make an attempt to do something meaningful for a change.

However, given the commie-tendencies of Hussein OBla-Bla and his henchies, it would not surprise me if the USA does bend to this pissy little whim, as the current president seems to think so little of the USA or its justice system.

As another card carrying member of the rest of the world I can assure you that I have never considered this anything but a (rather tedious) internal US matter. On the big list of global events worthy of attention it simply doesn't feature.

The UN ....... UNreal, UNbelievable, UNcomplete waste of time and space
redhouse1938 (429 D)

Typical, typical, typical UN. They endlessly discuss the situation in Israel, but the thousands and thousands of dying Syrians is not sufficiently interesting to deal with boldly.

The LGBT community is losing serious ground in certain parts of the world, but they want to discuss this obscure US individual court case.

If, as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, I wonder what the BS intentions of the UN will bring us.

I am curious: if Israel would fight a war with the Palestinians and the death count would be a few % of Assad's, I think some countries would throw such a fit of rage in the UN HQ in New York, that you should be careful of small earthquakes in Manhattan if something like this ever happens. Western countries let themselves be manipulated to support these organizations, I say: we can deal with the problems in the world without the UN's kind help.

There's absolutely no chance that this goes anywhere. For a lot of reasons.

Most tellingly, let's look at who's saying this. It's coming from the UN Working Group of Experts of People of African Descent. Not the General Assembly, not even the grossly misnamed Human Rights Council. Just some make-work sinecure for politically connected hacks.

This just goes to show you the power of the American media to misinform on a global scale.
redhouse1938 (429 D)

Invictus,
You're not suggesting the UN is a mindless, uncontrolled institution, whose left arm does not know what its right arm does? That lacks, at this particular level within its administration, the sensitivity to how this type of "reprimand" will play out in Global media, given the current state of world authorities?
Certainly you wouldn't?

As controversial as it may be to point out that the UN is a flawed institution, that is what I'm saying, yes. Let the scales fall from our eyes!
redhouse1938 (429 D)

I feel that the UN - and not just a sub-sub-subcommittee on nonsense affairs - should be reprimanded by the world community in the most aggressive available diplomacy, to demonstrate that its well-payed, comfortably living diplomats in such exotic resorts as New York City and Geneve should have a sensitivity of how such a statement plays out. They should know that in a time when weapons are being used that many had hoped had be silently put on the ashheep of history, in a time when people with a different sexual orientation are being harassed in more and more countries, attacking the one country that - for all the flaws of its own - has the power and will to take a position on these issues that is not entirely void of decency, may not be the best course of action.

And I believe that has little to do with the American media, flawed as they themselves might be.

No, it's all the media's fault. Why does this joke committee know who Trayvon Martin was? Because of the media inflaming racial animosity in what really was a straight-forward case that ought no to have even gone to trial in order to get ratings.

Not at all. If it weren't for the media pressure there would have been summary judgement acquitting Zimmerman right after the prosecution made its bungled case. He probably would never have even been charged, since there was so little evidence against him.

But the media drummed things up in this sad but unremarkable self-defense case in order to get their ratings back up after the post-election slouch. All the time arguing about stand-your-ground (which wasn't even a factor in the case) on CNN would have been much better spent on something else. Like the Syrian Civil War, for example.

UN: "Uh, hey, US Government, have you heard about that Trayvon Martin thing? You guys should maybe have somebody look into that."
US: "Oh, gee, thanks, United Nations. We hadn't thought of that. It's not like we've already got Justice, the FBI, and the Attorney General's office working on it. Glad to see you're on top of world affairs. We'll get right on top of that. Mumble mumble son-of-a-mumble mumble wouldn't know his mumble from his mumble..."

The United States has a race problem. The United States should deal with that race problem, not the United Nations.

Libya has a dictator problem, Syria has a civil war problem, the Congo has a terrorist army problem. The United Nations should deal with those problems, not the United States.

For some reason it's now the other way around.

Welfare pays better than work in the US
A mother of two in New York is eligible for more in welfare benefits than starting salaries for school teachers in the state. Hawaii offered the most money to a mother of two, $60, 590 and Idaho the least $11,150. 33 states offer more in welfare than full-time minimum wage work earns.
