With night time voting, I wonder if you could potentially break the game. Like, say town has half of them publicly say they'll vote for one guy, and the other half another. Then, whichever guy gets voted in will reveal which half has less mafia.

Also, yeah. I don't think the coach is anything fancy. Just a spectator following the game + one guy more specifically, to give tips and answer questions and stuff.

i'm dubious about town night-voting, I get wanting to get the town talking at night, but I think however you structure it, you're likely to give the town a significant advantage

I agree that night-voting is pretty nasty. If the threat of death via town PR's like vigilante doesn't get people talking; nothing will.

Night talking I think is fine, even though most mafia formats don't allow it. It adds some fun to the game. I think REQUIRING night talking is a little unreasonable. Then again, I am kind of opposed to GM-imposed post quotas to begin with, as lurkers can always be killed.

I agree, 5 is not a lot at all, which begs the question, why is it necessary? What is it meant to accomplish?

I don't really care that there is a 5 post minimum as I am not a lurker, but I am curious why everyone thinks it will improve the game.

I think it would be crazy to raise the mininum above 5. 5 posts isn't all that much, but requiring that many seems kind of high.

I take flum's point (and others) about detriment of nightime town voting.

Perhaps we should not allow any town night talk so everyone can rest, then pick up activity in day phases?

Also could I ask for us to observe no posting between day end and reveal and for reveal to be quick even if no flavour post. In UK day ends at 11pm, would be nice to get result - then sleep.

So, how exactly is this coach thing going to work. Are we going to get assigned to a newbie and advise them on how to play their role? Or are we only allowed to give general advice in some thread?

You're the first ones, I imagine you will set the precedent. When I proposed it, I was thinking more along the lines of the SoW commentary where a non-player simply posts thoughts on certain things, but given that it's not a situation where everyone should receive coaching, you could definitely work one-on-one in private. It may also help to have a sort of warm up period (maybe an extra 24 hours?) where nobody is lynched but everyone simply tries to get into the flow of the game, newbies included.

Can participants looking to have a coach please say so?

As a heads-up, I won't have much time to post during weekdays, so won't be able to maintain high volume of posts every single day. Will do my best not to lurk though
