I'm in favor of having the cult/Sith and mason/Jedi faction in the game, Jango as neutral SK, Jar Jar as jester :P Maybe no mafia at all.. Cult/Mason games are a thing maybe it would be something different to do. Just my thoughts.

I know EpicMafia uses the "cult leader dies => cult loses" rule, that seems like quite the buzzkill though. WD's idea seems like a decent compromise

Well, maybe I give it too much flak. I've had some really fun games there.
It's just hard to find games that aren't filled with 10 year olds.
And so many of the setups are broken too.

I wouldn't put a cult leader in it or if we did I wouldn't have that rule. It seems bad to me. If we had a cult we should just have two regular cultists (rule of two) let them convert. Maybe have a town mayor or governor role that can reveal to cast extra votes, but can be converted. One time I got mayor, revealed, got converted and became a cult mayor while the town thought I was on their side. -Great game.

What about someone who will kill someone at night only if they also die that night? (Basically a night version of the hunter.)

i also noticed that the sk seems like they're always weaker than the mafia, so i think it would be interesting if we gave thrm an upgrade in thr form of expanding the 3rd party to be 2 members: a bodyguard and the sk. The sk cannot be nked unless the bg is dead (assuming he is not distracted) and could also possibly survive a daylynch if he is not dead (maybe even multiple if he is not dead). The sk would be just like a mafioso once the bodyguard dies. I think it would have a lot of potential to change the focus in the game.

@tv: Very similar to the veteran role. You can choose to be on alert or not on alert. If you are on alert, whoever visits you dies. It is a very tricky role to have as you can mistakenly kill a town power role.

Bounty Hunter = Compulsive, 2-shot serial killer. Compulsive means must shoot every night. If the bounty hunter shoots a vanilla townie, he gets another shot.

This could be a third party role or mafia aligned.

I wonder how non-voting town ghost(s) would go down? Would only apply to early vanilla town kills. How much credence would town give to someone who was confirmed town but had no more info than they do?

That'd bias things pretty heavily for the town. You spend all day debating and then vote for whomever the dead townies decide and the Mafia never gets to directly alter the lynch.

While having a ghost return would be interesting I agree that it would be a big town advantage.

I like the idea of Politician DL but my question is would the mafia be revealed to him because when he is town he could just tell everyone? Also good about dead not coming back.

Excellent - are you posting roles prior to game Y2 or do we discuss merits of roles and strategy in game?

I have a baseline for the roles we will use, if you guys want I can post them this weekend for a bit of discussion and potential tweaking before finalizing and starting to assign people.

I like idea of exploring roles and optimum strategy outside the game, but happy with whatever others think.

I understand both sides, wanting to see the roles ahead of time and discuss structure, but also wanting to prevent people from using too much pre-game discussion as a basis for going about the real game when it starts. We're gonna vote with some +1 whoring that I rarely do :)
