I Need a Mod
I need a mod to take a look at some reason postings in the thread I maintain, the Daily Bible Reading because a player is posting extremely offensive material of a graphic sexual nature that is completely unrelated to the topic. I muted him, but want to know if this is permitted or if it can be deleted from the Forum.

The Return of NFL Pick 'em: Week 1 (Plus your picks for Playoff Teams + The Super Bowl!)
So a day late and seven Peyton TDs later--damn, he was great last night!--NFL Pick 'em is back...
So, besides the Broncos/Ravens game, pick the winners for the Week 1 match-ups...THEN pick your playoff teams (the 1-6 seeds for each conference) and then, of course...your Super Bowl match-up and champs.
So, NFL, Week 1...PICK 'EM!

Welfare pays better than work in the US
A mother of two in New York is eligible for more in welfare benefits than starting salaries for school teachers in the state. Hawaii offered the most money to a mother of two, $60, 590 and Idaho the least $11,150. 33 states offer more in welfare than full-time minimum wage work earns.

The most recent political quiz I've taken other then the political compass lst night was:

I think its far more accurate, since its asking you political questions, not bullshit like Astrology.
Sbyvl36 (439 D)

How is "Do you believe the theory of Evolution?" a political question, fasces?

Do dumb people automatically belong to the right?
Invictus (240 D)
18 Aug 13 UTC
Total bunkum. I just took it again and slide slightly more to the right, but still just over on the social authoritarian side.

While taking it again, I noticed other questions that seemed fishy. The one about art, specifically. How can one's opinions on abstract art tell you anything about someone's political views? I must have gotten dragged further left because I said abstract art that doesn't represent anything is still art. Maybe if I thought about it for a really long time I may come up with a different answer (it's really a much deeper questions than it thinks it is), but a question like that or on one's opinions on astrology have no place next to ones on rates of taxation. I bet saying I really disagreed with astrology put me further left, as if spirituality and superstition is solely a province of the right.

Also the question about protectionism. You could be a committed free trader, like me, but still have to answer "agree" when it asks if sometimes protectionism is justified. I wouldn't want our domestic uranium production hollowed out by cheap imports from Africa, for example. I bet the methodology puts me in the same camp as people who want to tear up NAFTA. Which is quite far from what I really believe.

As has been said, bunkum.
Invictus (240 D)
18 Aug 13 UTC
I was looking for that quiz last night, Fascses349. It's far and away the best I've ever taken.

"How is "Do you believe the theory of Evolution?" a political question, fasces?

Do dumb people automatically belong to the right?"
This is a heavily american centered test. It gives you your result entirely based on which American politicians and parties agree with you the most.

One major debate in many American states is whether or not to teach just evolution, just creationism or both in public schools. So actually by not believing in Evolution, you are automatically slightly more right wing in the American political spectrum.
tendmote (100 D(B))

@damian @invictus I only took the politicalcompass.org survey once, but I'm not surprised that there's a large difference for a person taking it twice. For a large number of questions, I thought I could respond with either of two opposites depending on things that are ambiguous in the proposal. For instance:

"There is now a worrying fusion of information and entertainment." What non-human species does the survey have in mind when they suggest that information and entertainment can maintain some kind of separation? If I agree the fusion exists, and I'm not worried about it because 50000 years of evolution (behavioral modernity) have already taken this into account, and I agree it exists now because it has always existed, then how do I answer this question?

"Mothers may have careers, but their first duty is to be homemakers." If I think mothers and fathers both have a primary obligation to their children rather than their careers, how do I answer this?

"Making peace with the establishment is an important aspect of maturity." Well, maybe. Which "establishment" and what is the nature of the (assumed) conflict?

On and on. I think the politicalcompass.org survey is horse shit.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
18 Aug 13 UTC
Yeah, I been everywhere between -2+3, +4-6 +6-5, and +8+5. Given how large the range of my answers are, it seems pretty inaccurate.
Mayonaisepot (471 D)
18 Aug 13 UTC
It does make the test look rather ridiculous to me, but perhaps it's because American politics are simply ridiculous.

I also frowned when I read the question "Is Global Warming a threat to the environment?". I know it's an important subject in American politics, but it's still a stupid question. If there's such a thing like Global warming, it's a fact that it will be a threat to the environment (as we know it). So the question should be "Do you think the government should make regulation to reduce Global Warming?".

Haha, what are you worried about draug? We know enough about you to probably answer the questions reasonably well ourselves. And your score only shows the composite of your answers, not the individual ones.
I
I agree with those who say its a bullshit test though. Too many 2 variable questions. As tendmote pointed out, do I disagree that there is a fusion of information and entertainment, or do I disagree that it is worrying?

And the questions having nothing to do with either axis, like religion and astrology. There's an association currently in America of religion with the right. But the two don't really have anything to do with eachother. I'm sure the religious questions pulled me artificially to the left, because I am very conservative politically, I just dint happen to be a religious person. My assumption is that astrology would pull you left, if they make the association with the wacky spiritualist types who worship mother earth and have crystals all over the place. To me they're both the same. They're both non-science.

I am kind of honored to have the distinction of best representing the site though. If we ever get large enough to send a representative to some sort of political institution, I would be glad to represent you all. I guess I'm just an average player with average views :-)

The one I found most bothersome was "The rich pay too much taxes". I think they pay just about the right amount. So do I agree or disagree? Technically, I disagree, but then it make me sound like I think the rich should be paying less. If I say I disagree, it makes me sound like some "tax the rich" liberal.

I propose we come up with a pseudo-draug score. Have 3 people take the test answering how they honestly think he would answer, and average the three scores. I would at least bet the three are in the same quadrant, and I would also bet that that quadrant would be lower right.
