I'm ready to TA.

Any county except Germany (yes the irony isn't lost on me), please.

@Batallion - Keep us informed. We'll make it a low buy-in game (since it's not really about the points) and we'll do our best to keep you in it. But we do want to start ASAP. Let me know.
what has been filled, and what needs filling?

We're getting ready to start a beginners game (as soon as everyone confirms that they're in). If you're interested in an intermediate game, we're trying to discern if there's enough interest to get one of those started as well.

Great. Just waiting on confirmation from Halt and EmperorMaximus as TA's and JMo as a prof. I've talked with another player (Scoggle) who is willing to step in if Batallion is unable to free up points this weekend. So once we have those last 3 confirmations, we'll be ready to proceed.

Pretty good with Turkey, England and Italy. So so with Austria and France. Not that much practice using Germany or Russia, though I am familiar with their opening plays.

I'm confirmed, I won't be able to post every turn, but will make sure I get commentary in every year. Though with 3 professors that shouldn't be a problem.

Just a quick setup note.

Students, by joining the game you are agreeing to previous SoW game rules. Essentially that any pause under a week will be granted, any pause over a week will need approval from all students and TA's since it affects everyone involved with the game. If you notice someone is going to miss moves then you should pm myself or Triumvir (who will have TD powers over the game). If you lose contact with your TA or student for more then a day then please pm Triumvir immediately to let him know a replacement might be needed. Typical game settings are 5 point by in's and 48 hour phases to give students and TA's enough time to communicate. Wait for orders mode is also an option should everyone agree on it.

Game advice, work out a way to communication with your student/TA that works for you both. google IM and email have been the most popular in the past, but site pm seems to work decently.

Thanks, JMo. Just waiting on confirmation from EmperorMaximus and we'll be just about ready to go.

I have just moved to a new university and they have not yet sorted the internet out. I am unsure when I will be able to access the internet regularly and so, unfortunately it might be best if you go ahead without me. If it's all sorted before you find someone else, I will let you know. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Great! Only one question - what are TD powers? Also, what turn length are we looking at?
TD: Tournament Director. The TD has some Mod powers as far as the games are concerned.

From JMOs posting above, "Typical game settings are 5 point buy in's and 48 hour phases to give students and TA's enough time to communicate. Wait for orders mode is also an option should everyone agree on it. "

I'm good with the "wait for orders mode". 48 hours sounds good as well.

We have a replacement player for Batallion (best of luck at University) but we've lost EmperorMaximus so we'll be needing a new TA. Anyone interested?

I'd be happy to TA, though I'd only really be comfortable teaching Italy, Turkey or England - Germany, France and Russia I'm so-so with and I really dislike Austria.

All confirmations are in. The final list is as follows:

Students:
RAZ000
DuckofSpades
A_Tin_Can
Enoch
SpeakertoAliens
John Viva
Scoggle

TA's:
Triumvir (Austria)

Halt (England)

Profs:

The game has been created. It is called "SoW Fall 2013." The buy in is 5 D. I am sending a message to all players with the password now.

So as a player do a avoid looking at what the prof are saying till after the game?
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Sep 13 UTC
No. The profs comments are exactly what you *should* be looking at. you are there to learn. That would be like taking a course at uni and never attending the lectures.
Triumvir (1193 D)
30 Sep 13 UTC
I will begin a new thread for prof comments and will begin with an explanation of how things are to go. Will probably do that later this afternoon.
2ndWhiteLine (2606 D(B))

Tri, an SOW official thread is already made.

duck, definitely read professor commentary. We try to focus our posts on what's been done already and the consequences of doing or not doing something, but there aren't going to be any posts with ideas for moves or anything that could potentially effect the game.
duckofspades (170 D)
30 Sep 13 UTC
Ok, thanks.
Triumvir (1193 D)
30 Sep 13 UTC
Quick note to all TA's (and students, I suppose) - As soon as the game starts I may rearrange the TA assignments. As it turns out, I know one of the students personally and it would work out the best (for all students involved, I think) if I were the TA for his country.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
30 Sep 13 UTC
Okay, so an interesting idea might be to have every student list their worst country, and then assign them that country so they learn how to improve what they aren't good at.

Just another shining example of the efficiency and accountability that a healthy democracy brings to managing a government.
Why doesn't the US Govt just sell Hawaii and Alaska to the Chinese, they should stave off the debt crisis for now.

Possible iOS6 bug
If I have 2 navies adjacent in the moves list then I can't issue the 3rd part of a support move or convoy order in safari or chrome for the upper navy! It's really frustrating! So far I'm just having to choose alternate moves but lately it's really hurt me a few times. Any idea what's going on here?

On foreign policy: Russia and China in the 21st century - redhouse forum item 5000
Ladies, Gentlemen,
For my 5000th forum contribution I would like to propose the topic above. What are Russia's and China's roles in the 21st century? Do the Lavrov-Kerry conversations on Syria mark a turning point in how Diplomacy is conducted? How far will China's growing influence stretch?

Can you imagine how much more exciting US politics would be if there were three houses, and only two of them were required to pass a bill?

(I don't suggest this for prudential reasons -- just political spectator motivations).

Looking for re-match replacements
gameID=123838 just ended--110 point buy in with some pretty reputable players. I'm setting up a rematch--it was a good game--but not everyone from the original game is interested/available.

I've created a 130 point anon WTA which will consist of largely the same group, but we'll need a replacement or two. So far we have MarekP, Feeniks, and me confirmed for the rematch, while Sylvania is out this time. I'll post the others here as they confirm their interest.
