I would like to start a new Full Press, WTA game with 48 hour phase lengths. I think the pot size should be 101 but I am flexible on that. Is anyone interested?

I Need a Mod
I need a mod to take a look at some reason postings in the thread I maintain, the Daily Bible Reading because a player is posting extremely offensive material of a graphic sexual nature that is completely unrelated to the topic. I muted him, but want to know if this is permitted or if it can be deleted from the Forum.

How about ones freedom ends where the other ones begins? If you don't like christian threads you can either ignore/mute them or discuss your opinions in a civilized manner. Posting such posts as YJ's is disrespectful to any serious reader. I am not a christian and probably disagree with Mujus on many topics but his posts are content, pluralistic and he is shown himself open to serious discussion. How can you not appreciate this? Is it so hard to listen to anothers opinion without slandering them?

I haven't read what was posted in the thread in question but think for a minute...we have a thread going at the moment where some people are advocating dropping bombs from a great height that will certainly kill people. Other people are suggesting that we should turn a blind eye and allow a ruthless murderer to gas thousands of people.

Is the post in the bible thread worse than these two positions?

Mujus - I appreciate that you may be offended by what was said but I for one want this forum to be a place where people can say what they like. Others can confront them and state their views and maybe people will change their positions. People cannot change their positions if they can't state their original thoughts and invite challenge. It isn't pretty, but worth it I think.

Steady on BO, that kind of language could illicit another thread ..... which could then get derailed into talking about religion, you're playing a dangerous game :-)

So is this complaint about YJ's post or keeping trolls out of your thread?
Maniac (184 D(B))
09 Sep 13 UTC
@dipplayer - as I haven't seen the post I defer to your interpretation, but the point remains that some people are inciting the killing of their fellow human beings and others want to let people die without raising a hand. How are these better than some porn link?

Also how many people have died because people watch porn and how many have died and killed in the name of religion? Perhaps the religious should be prevented from posting anywhere on a porn dominated Internet?

The overall point that trying to moderate free speech means we have to decide what is good and what is bad. I wouldn't want mujus or the mods making that call.

It wasn't a link to some porn, Maniac. What happened was, Yellowjacket was posting descriptions of his teenage sexual encounters. One of them involved a surprising quantity of diet cola.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)

In the other one, Yellowjacket had his first homosexual encounter, and for some reason he telephoned some old Russian woman during the vinegar strokes. I found it a little bit weird, but some people take inspiration from the strangest sources.

I hope no-one dies as a result of this thread, that would be extreme.
I think if we can all just stay alive here we've made some progress.

Maniac, I agree completely with this statement: "The overall point that trying to moderate free speech means we have to decide what is good and what is bad. I wouldn't want mujus or the mods making that call."

However, there are places and times when certain types of communication are not accepted, and insisting on communicating will get you kicked out of a forum. Insisting on anything not related to the subject in a college class is a breach of the students' own academic freedom, for example. Coming to church and standing up and insisting on free speech doesn't work either. Sassing your grandma will get you slapped in many families. Posting off-topic remarks on any moderate forum will just see those posts removed by the moderator.

I guess it's a question of whether an individual should be allowed to completely derail a thread on this site.

Mujus every thread gets derailed at some point. What makes your thread special versuses everyone elses?
And your thread is like a church or a classroom?

@Mujus

Perhaps you didn't notice, but:

This is not college.
This is not church.
This is *not* a moderated Forum.

Mujus, the forum has always been self-moderated. When you started posting a new bible reading every day, we asked you to constrain them all to one thread to reduce clutter, and you so kindly obliged. The mods never got involved because they really aren't supposed to in such cases.

Likewise, this should be a community matter. The proper response would be reminding Yellowjacket that you are kind enough to keep this to one thread and would appreciate his not derailing it, followed by requests for public condemnation. As this was never a mod issue in the first place, you shouldn't really be going to the mods first when you need help.
Mujus (1495 D(B))
09 Sep 13 UTC
No, Abge, this is not college or a church. We do have moderators, however. Those were analogies, examples to back up my assertion that "there are certain places and times when certain types of communication are not accepted...." and my point that "I guess it's a question of whether an individual should be allowed to completely derail a thread on this site."
Celticfox (100 D(B))
09 Sep 13 UTC
Hrm every other thread is free to be derailed so again I ask why is yours special?
dipplayer2004 (1110 D)
09 Sep 13 UTC
So where is the public support? Where are the denunciations? Is everyone sending YJ private messages telling him he was out of line? I doubt that.
Mujus (1495 D(B))
09 Sep 13 UTC
Ghug, I was previously asked by a moderator if I wanted YJ to be banned from the thread at a time when he was putting up posts with the F-word repeated over and over again. Communicating ideas, free speech, is something to be treasured and defended--but trying to prevent others from communicating by hijacking a thread is not free speech--it is bad behavior--and that's an appropriate arena for Mod intervention, imho anyway.

Oh my! This thread is awesome. Hell I thought this issue was resolved (Mapu asked nicely, and I STFU), but by all means if you'd like to keep the ball rolling on it, Mujus, go right ahead.
OT: All Mujus ever did was maintain a thread he cares for, and ask for a mod if some remark constituted a violation of site policy. I think a simple 'No' would have sufficed.

Anyway. Live and let live people. Move along.

The Return of NFL Pick 'em: Week 1 (Plus your picks for Playoff Teams + The Super Bowl!)
So a day late and seven Peyton TDs later--damn, he was great last night!--NFL Pick 'em is back...
So, besides the Broncos/Ravens game, pick the winners for the Week 1 match-ups...THEN pick your playoff teams (the 1-6 seeds for each conference) and then, of course...your Super Bowl match-up and champs.
So, NFL, Week 1...PICK 'EM!

Welfare pays better than work in the US
A mother of two in New York is eligible for more in welfare benefits than starting salaries for school teachers in the state. Hawaii offered the most money to a mother of two, $60, 590 and Idaho the least $11,150. 33 states offer more in welfare than full-time minimum wage work earns.
