So has Draugnar finally matured and can I take him off my mute list?
Draug need not answer. I won't see it. But does anyone else what to chime in with their opinion so I can decide if it is safe to take him off? I kind of miss his ferociously bombastic posts, but he got so over the top in his youthful desire to act tough I had to mute him or kill him before his (mental) 21st birthday, and the former was the better option

In this thread you must compliment the poster above you. We've done this before and it was pretty funny and also not the usual catastrophe.

Hey everyone! My wife is on Webdip!!
I won't give away her screen name and you won't find her in any of my games, but she's in a couple of games right now and having a blast! How cool is that?

Lmao FK truer words were never spoken. My face betrays nothing as I type indignant or laudatory letters to my neighbors. It's probably fairly creepy to see.
I just make funny faces at the screen.

Everytime a woman is on this game, there has to be some ridiculous thread declaring it to the whole world. Women are not aliens.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

lol. i try (and sometimes fail) not to apply the lessons i learn in diplomacy to relationships and women. it's a dark art.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

In diplomacy, Putin, they represent a significant uptick in diversity each time a woman joins. I daresay they are the most underrepresented (proportionally speaking) group of people in the entire game, let alone on webdip.

Why not celebrate the attempt to spread the game beyond its male-dominated parameters? Do you also make similar scoffs when women are elected to legislatures? I digress. Tru Ninja I think was just excited that he got his wife to play - I would get excited if I got my wife to do anything I liked with me.

Wouldn't you like your wife to play webdip Putin? Or maybe she does I don't know. If not, join her. Just maybe consider dissuading her from usernames like "Putinswife" because that might result in harassment.
Putin33 (111 D)
10 Jul 12 UTC
I think these threads discourage women from joining, because every time one does they get undue and probably unwanted attention. My wife wouldn't be caught dead with something as patriarchal as Putinswife as a handle. She kept her own last name. Identifying herself via a man is not her cup of tea.

My lady live has yet to play diplomacy. We do play other board games together though.

Why would this discourage a women from joining? This is obviously in good nature fun and excited over playing with a persons partner.

I hope one day to prove wrong the assertion that men are biologically more predisposed to like strategy games.

Maybe when I'm 88 and still going to f2f tournaments with other almost-dead people, there will be about as many old women as old men. I hope.

(I also hope this game will continue to be played long into the future - I expect it will, at least for 50 years or so)
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

@Putin: surely you have to agree that when one spouse has a hobby they are dedicated to, especially hobby gaming, which has a very small following compared to other things, it's pretty significant when someone can share that joy with their spouse, especially when this type of game tends to be male-heavy.

I'm excited for everyone that can have this same joy. Maybe one day you can have a similar experience.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
11 Jul 12 UTC
@Thucy I think men are more predisposed only because men are raised with them while not all women are.

My girlfriend recently got hooked to the game. I had explained to her one of my plots in the full disclosure game and that got her interested in it.

My wife has little interest in playing the game, however we do play strategy games... (Alhambra, Carcassonne, Settlers & Zombies... oh and also RoboRally) I think she just dislikes the idea of Diplomacy.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

" I think men are more predisposed only because men are raised with them while not all women are."

Agreed.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))
11 Jul 12 UTC
@Manas now you got me interested in your plot as well. I'm curious which country you're playing.

My wife plays other games but this is the only game deemed a "war game" that she has tried. Never played Settlers and Zombies, she thought Carcassonne was boring. She does like Checkers, Rail Baron, Iron Dragon and most family/party games.
my belief is that women shouldnt be allowed to play the same games as men.
i belong to a club and i oppose female membership not due to the belief that they are less intelligent or less humourless (of course thats all true) but i dont want shopping and handbags discussed at the table. That has happened many times in other environments. It disturbs the peace and gives me a right headache.

"Now Where Have I Heard That Before..." (A Game Played Entirely On Quotes?)
Every message you send has to be a quote from a movie, TV show, book, song, etc., with the exception of locations (as finding a quote for moving to the Ruhr is a bit too difficult, I think)...an example, say, Italy asking Russia for help could be:
"With our combined strength (@Budalest) we can END this destructive conflict, and bring order to the galaxy, er, Europe!" :p

Returning to webdip
After a year away, I've decided to come back to webdip for the duration of my summer holiday (as opposed to just making the occasional post on the forums every 3 months). Not playing any games until I've got past my week away that starts in a fortnight. How's webdip getting on?

Throwing a Game
When is it acceptable to throw a WTA game( or any game for that matter, but WTA has the stiffest "penalty") knowing that you could force a draw? Are there ever grounds to believe that this is ever acceptable? I don't believe so, but looking to be proven wrong. I am of the school that would say Win; failing that, draw. Period. Curious to know what others think.
