The dictator strike again

First vetoing bills using unelected senators, now cheating in the election to get a majarity. Is Harper a dictator or elected official?

So what happened - why did I bother to join this game only to see it end in a 7-way draw before the autumn 1902 moves? I'm sure there's a good answer....

Time-wasters who team up with their mates.......
and enter anonymous games and team up against everyone else and usually but not always win. Then they spend all their time making sure they get 17 SCs each before drawing. Then flushed with their 'success' they start doing it in further matches. I just want to play a game with genuine competition where people win on merit and not because they teamed up with their schoolmates. How can this be stopped or how can I prevent getting stuck in games with these imbeciles?

i don't care.

what happens if you're playing a non-live game and the tides have turned, and it's clear your alliance will lose, and none of the opposition will defect? for live games, i usually play them through because it doesn't take too long to end them, but who wants to spend weeks playing a game that you will eventually lose?

Somaliland
Does anyone else ever get frustrated at the lack of international recognition of Somaliland? I find myself coming back to this subject over and over, trying to find any good reason to not recognize a democratic state in Africa with a history of free and fair elections, non-violent transitions of power, and relatively stable economic growth.

DATC and the known errors on this site
I took a look at the DATC tests here (http://webdiplomacy.net/datc.php) and noticed that 6.H (Retreating), 6.I (Building) and 6.J (Civil Disorder and Disbands) were all missing. Two of the most prominent errors on this site fall in this area (ending games before retreats and incorrect civil disorder disbands).

Failed move?!
Basicly the situation was that while playing as turkey in the late 1901 I moved my army from Bul to Gre and another one from Con to Bul via land, supported by a fleet in the black sea, but somehow the move failed and the army order is referred as hold in the orders log. My other army emptied Bul and noone else attacked there so why did the move fail? Any ideas?

Points Lost in Cheating Matches
Do the moderators reimburse points to players retrospectively when they find they were victims of cheating in previous matches?
Also on a general point why do so many people try and cheat, what is the point?

website does not always display all games / how do you resign a game?
The website does not always display all 4 of my games at the top. Therefore, I got into a game on the late end of the turn and got attacked because I couldn't negotiate from the beginning, and it is ruined once again. This would not have happened if I could have resigned the first 2 games. They continue to display at the top of the screen even though I want to quit. How do you resign / surrender?
Overall, I have had a much worse experience with this website than I expected.

there is no resign button, so everyone here just leaves without notice to any of the players. just disappears. the developers thought it wasn't punishment enough to have a player ditch the game, so they added the feature that now not only does it disrupt the game's balance but also leaves the option of the player showing up turns later pretending nothing happened screwing everyone, and forcing the other players to wait a couple turns before they can draw it. it would be too easy to just draw and start a new game if there were a resign button.

Would you people prefer a player who did not care about how well he does in the games? Who among you, even in this thread much less normal life, has not expressed a level of anger when harmed in an up front and permanent manner toward something you care about and want to do your best at? Who among you, in such a scenario if not a lesser one, has expressed something in the form of "fix this because I have been hurt", which is a command in syntax but does not mean it was screamed in someone's face? Who among you never included some type of curse word or expression in expressing your communication, which I have not in this scenario? If you prefer careless players and have never done any of these things that I mentioned, then you can criticize me all you want. Otherwise, at best you are hypocritical. Fix your own character and communication before so unkindly communicating against mine.

That is a wall of text that makes no sense. But honestly, what did you expect when less than a week into joining our community, you make, not one, not two, but three threads complaining about features you think are bad or missing.

If you have questions about the game/system, ask them.
But don't make expectations and then complain when they aren't met.
Your refusal to play out the games you NMRed in is a hole you can't dig yourself out of in the forums. Play some games, make some friends, earn some respect. Then you'll find the community more amiable to your voice.
FlameOfYah (100 D)
25 Feb 12 UTC
I only made 2 threads, I did not know who to ask, and when I wrote something first in one of the games, I got no answers. I also saw no public or private condemation or feedback of anyone who did not show up to make moves in any of the games I am in. My communication wasn't perfect (whose is?) but at least I cared enough to be unhappy that I was irrevocably hurt in games and give some feedback so some at that time unknown someone could improve the site so others have a better experience. That person in charge has been good to me, so why do others have to be so outrageously mean. Their offenses are worse than anything I ever did here.

-"Why doesn't this website email you when a game starts??"
-"Is there a game option for a preference list or first come first serve? Getting random countries totally sucks. Playdiplomacy..."
-"website does not always display all games / how do you resign a game?"

Those are your three threads.
1) The first one blames NMRs on us, not you being new. I understand that the system can be difficult to grasp in the introduction, but you've been online every day since joining the 24hr and 48hr games. You should have been able to notice the game starts from your homepage.
2) The second thread only serves to criticise our community more, comparing it to a thieving website that charges money for software they did not write. Plus, you're suggesting a feature that goes against the very core of Diplomacy.
3) And finally, we have a thread asking how to quit games. If anything, civil disorders are the worst issue with playing Diplomacy online. Instead of saying "oh well, now I know how it all works", you refuse to play in the games, ruining the experience for twelve other people.

I want this community to grow and I'm happy to welcome you. But your initial approach to the site and your disrespect for the game leaves much to be desired. If the forums seem uninviting and hostile to you, it is because you created a first impression warranting such a response. So let's create a new one.

Hi, I'm Geofram. Welcome to webDiplomacy. Please don't quit your games.

What ever happened to the whole taking responsibility for your actions bit?
The lay-out on this site is pretty straight-forward. Even if it wasn't, then look to yourself first to see if you had read the FAQ and so forth before you claim that it is others' faults rather than your own. Good luck to you on here and in RL if you keep that mind-set.

Does this remind of anyone of "If I win, it's because I'm brilliant" and "If I lose, it's because others are stupid?"

FOY, you're complaining about bread you burnt tasting bad by blaming it on the oven. Except that's never a valid excuse because every baker knows to watch the bread religiously when using unfamiliar equipment.

You burnt your bread and caught flak on the forums for trying to blame it on us. I understand how you might have been offended by some of the remarks, but honestly, if you're still expecting to be mamby-pamby-ed on these forums, then no one can save you. Regardless, you risk permanently labeling yourself a whining poor sport by continuing to blame the community whilst STILL refusing to enter orders or conduct press.
