So what happened - why did I bother to join this game only to see it end in a 7-way draw before the autumn 1902 moves? I'm sure there's a good answer....

OK! This game was by far the most challenging I've every played, and a hell of a lot of fun too. Thanks everybody for showing me that I can't get away with EVERYTHING I want in a game :P Once again I upped the ante in trying to figure out how aggressive I can get away with being by organizing and promptly breaking a WT. I thought I was toast for sure!

Russia/Sweetwatersam: haha not even a superstar can last agains what you were up against.

Italy/Splitdiplomat: I can't believe you are as highly rated as you are. You were abusive and terrible to not just me but everybody.

Austria/Pantalone: We didn't have many mutual goals all game. Way to be a pain in the ass though and have fun with it :P

France/Warlegend: You played solid throughout, and I expect you had as good relations with everybody else as you had with me (except Turkey, I guess?). I always felt that I could work with you, even when you were gunning for me, and I was really impressed when you saw the Turkish solo threat as early as I did and realized you'd be better off letting me live.

Germany/Vexlord: You were tenacious as hell, and though I didn't agree with many of your decisions, you definitely deserved to be part of the draw. Lots I want to ask you. First off (and everybody can answer this) was my stab of Germany a bad one? It didn't work out for me, but I maintain that if either F had left me alone or if T had sided with me in the Moscow scenario in '03 that I would have beaten G and had a strong solo shot - probably why they both chose otherwise.

If I can give you some advice, Vexlord, the way you handled our first peace offering in 1904 was really not good, in my opinion. I offered you a pretty reasonable deal and you shanked me immediately. In my opinion, if you genuinely wanted peace you should have played nice at that point (I definitely would have returned Holland to you), and if you genuinely wanted war you should have waited a turn and given me a vicious stab of your own once I went to defend myself against France. Either one would have played out more advantageously for you. With what you did it only confused me and made me act like a cornered badger. I felt I couldn't trust anything you said, and even after that point you wouldn't negotiate at all. Or maybe I just don't get it :P in which case please explain. I should let you know that I never honestly wanted war with you after my first peace offering. The only way I was gonna turn on you at that point was if France was unable to interfere or if France was going to help me. I wished you could have seen that, but you were really mistrustful of everything to do with me the whole rest of the game. Anyway you did warn me off the start that you would be very pissed with an English stab - guess I should have listened :P

Also, your late game snag of Norway... jeez man, just when I thought we were getting along? I was dead set on throwing to Turkey. Fortunately cooler heads prevailed.

Turkey/DipperDon: haha man I really enjoyed bantering with you all game. Your shit is pro. I love how we both kept feeding each other lines of crap all game and even though neither one of us was buying it. Very good rapport and even though we were never really allies I really wanted to be! Would play with you again anytime. Now please answer... why the hell wouldn't you take Moscow and Warsaw when I offered them to you in '03? It seemed like a REALLY beneficial arrangement for both of us. Were you afraid I'd just get too strong too fast if I crushed G and was able to turn on F quickly? Or did you just not trust me? I also wanted to know if you thought I was too loose with my information. Sometimes I felt I might be giving you too many helpful hints about my fairly sour relations with my Western "allies." Also, did my use of public chat to counter your propaganda make you less willing to deal with me? It didn't seem so, but I'd like to know. Also, why can't I find you on the GR list?

Anyways, a VERY good learning experience for me against really stiff opposition - I felt my diplomacy alone bought me into that draw!

jmo1121109 and all my other doubters if you're reading this it's time you quit being a Sally and admit your old pal YJ is the real deal. Still much to learn, but the real deal.
The one I just played was cool, but not as cool as this.

I like the fact that you are using a 4-way draw to validate yourself. Its not really THAT impressive is it? (btw, I'm not a doubter, just find it odd that you would use this game to validate yourself)
ghug (5068 D(B))

@Tom, I think he says this every time he finishes a game. Nobody's believed him yet; he's hoping the quality of his opponents this time will change that.

Because getting included in the draw in this game was much more challenging than any of my solos. And there are several people on this site who have implied that I would get spanked if I ever played anybody highly rated. With 3 opponents in the top 100 in GR I think this game lays that argument to rest.

That, and I love to mouth off.

Wow, I mean I know he talks a big game (he does come off a bit arrogant), but his games and records show that he's capable. Why are we so harsh on him?
You know I think we should get YJ and Dizzy into a full press game along with some notables.

.YJ, it seems we have a fundamental disagreement about my motives. Lets talk a little about what led me to be in the position i was in in the spring of 04 and where I was after 04
1. you come out to tell france and I that you want to triple and propose a shotgun opening that while it could be effective, was unconventional.
2. I agreed to the triple idea, and immediately message you saying i know its tempting when E in a western triple to stab G as you kind of surround him, and that I really wouldn't appreciate that. I also immediately messaged france, and we agreed to, while engaged faithfully in the triple, immediately attack E should he attack either of us. This actually turned into a loyal game long alliance between warlegend and I when...
3. You stabed me. it is a this point that Turkey's diplomacy became more relevant, he had warned me starting in fall 01 that you were going to stab me, and sure enough you did. He also told me he would not help you, and he didnt
4 Warlegend was good to his word, and turkey would not help you. you see yourself exposed so you come to me with another of your so labeled (by ME!) "elaborate plans" it leaves you with 7 sc’s and me with 6 and a plan for you to kill a st pete unit so you can defend your homeland. After some negotiation France agrees that support to Holland is a likely win, and now we have your plan with my twist that apparently you found vexing.
5 build of 04, Now I have 7 SC’s and you have 6, and you have been removed from the mainland. the plan you pitched is still possible, you can disband st pete and build to defend against france.
So that’s what happened. Why did it happen? There are many reasons, you stabbed me, and then wanted to leave yourself with the upper hand. I didn’t believe you weren’t taking kiel in the first place. France had already pledged me all of Scandinavia. Turkey and I had good diplomacy. I wanted you off the mainland. You would have to kill the unit. I had left myself a convenient loop hole in the non aggression pledge I made to you. I don’t like pink. I think though, if I had to cite only one, it would be that you come across as arrogant. I get the impression in our conversations that you expect people to do what you want, and assume your plans are the best if not only ones. Im not saying you have bad plans, but as elaborate as your diplomacy is what I saw was transparent, on a long enough timescale giving England what he wants will be bad for me. So I nipped it in the bud, it was your reaction to what I did that I thought was a bit well, arrogant again. You don’t like at all not getting what you want. You were ready to let france walk all over you instead of having a slice of humble pie and defending your homeland. You and I both knew france would soon have to turn south to address the Turkish issue, and it would have been a stretch to think he would have had the units to spare to move past Britain and Scandinavia by force. Of course fall of 1905 everything changes with a rogue Austrian behind French lines and turkey growing alarmingly quickly now a real threat to break the Ionian gap. I wanted to kill you at the end, but France wasn’t up for it…. Oh well, maybe next time.

Thanks for posting vexlord!

You aren't the first person to tell me I came across as arrogant in a game. It's all part of my charm when I sound that way BSing on the forum, but in game it doesn't do me any good. I've got to find a way to nip that impression!

Thanks for explaining the diplomacy I couldn't see. Most of what you say makes sense - though I still disagree with the way you handled Holland. I don't, actually, mind not getting all I want. I've been stabbed before and worse than that. My main dislike is that you put me in a position where I had to trust the guy who just stabbed me a turn earlier. It was a 'bad stab' imo in that rather than peace of us or annihilation for the stabee (me), it resulted in entrenchment and mutual mistrust for the rest of the game. If you had bargained for Holland immediately you probably could have gotten it from me without lying (I know you didn't REALLY lie letter of the law but come on :P).

But the real question is this: If I HAD let it lie in '04, and rather than suiciding against you, gone after France to defend myself, what would you have done? I found it extremely difficult to believe you would have helped me. Would you have gone south and maintained our tenuous peace? If so, then yes, I probably made the wrong choice. But I don't believe you would have. I think you would have seen minimal defense on the guy who broke a good triple and you CLEARLY didn't like and you would snap up all of Scandinavia from me in a single turn. Right or wrong?

France was wise to not try and kill me at the end. I could have easily given Turkey a serious shot at the solo.

Anyway, thanks again for posting, as you can see I'm quite new and haven't played with as skillfull a group as this before. Even if I don't agree with everything you've said, it will definitely get filed away for use in future games.

Action item for next game: less arrogant!
Dude, turn the swag *up*, not *down.*

Time-wasters who team up with their mates.......
and enter anonymous games and team up against everyone else and usually but not always win. Then they spend all their time making sure they get 17 SCs each before drawing. Then flushed with their 'success' they start doing it in further matches. I just want to play a game with genuine competition where people win on merit and not because they teamed up with their schoolmates. How can this be stopped or how can I prevent getting stuck in games with these imbeciles?

i don't care.

what happens if you're playing a non-live game and the tides have turned, and it's clear your alliance will lose, and none of the opposition will defect? for live games, i usually play them through because it doesn't take too long to end them, but who wants to spend weeks playing a game that you will eventually lose?

Does anyone else ever get frustrated at the lack of international recognition of Somaliland? DATC and the known errors on this site
I took a look at the DATC tests here (http://webdiplomacy.net/datc.php) and noticed that 6.H (Retreating), 6.I (Building) and 6.J (Civil Disorder and Disbands) were all missing. Two of the most prominent errors on this site fall in this area (ending games before retreats and incorrect civil disorder disbands).

Failed move?!
Basicly the situation was that while playing as turkey in the late 1901 I moved my army from Bul to Gre and another one from Con to Bul via land, supported by a fleet in the black sea, but somehow the move failed and the army order is referred as hold in the orders log. My other army emptied Bul and noone else attacked there so why did the move fail? Any ideas?

website does not always display all games / how do you resign a game?
The website does not always display all 4 of my games at the top. Therefore, I got into a game on the late end of the turn and got attacked because I couldn't negotiate from the beginning, and it is ruined once again. This would not have happened if I could have resigned the first 2 games. They continue to display at the top of the screen even though I want to quit. How do you resign / surrender?
Overall, I have had a much worse experience with this website than I expected.
