I was thinking of setting up a special Whingers game (with Public Press only) but don't know who to invite, any suggestions?

The dictator strike again
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/voter-suppression-scandal-will-be-a-test-of-harpers-leadership/article2350684/

First vetoing bills using unelected senators, now cheating in the election to get a majarity. Is Harper a dictator or elected official?

Butter or guns? EOG
So what happened - why did I bother to join this game only to see it end in a 7-way draw before the autumn 1902 moves? I'm sure there's a good answer....

Time-wasters who team up with their mates.......
and enter anonymous games and team up against everyone else and usually but not always win. Then they spend all their time making sure they get 17 SCs each before drawing. Then flushed with their 'success' they start doing it in further matches. I just want to play a game with genuine competition where people win on merit and not because they teamed up with their schoolmates. How can this be stopped or how can I prevent getting stuck in games with these imbeciles?

i keep seeing you start threads about cheating or unfair play. do you not remember the game we had? where you threw the wta game to france supporting him against everyone else even in the last turn? take a look in the mirror, buddy.

Nigee:

Play for more than 100 D, that's the first way. Don't play PPSC. Play passworded games where you know everybody who's in. "Real" metagamers are not, in my opinion, nearly as prevalent as they are made out to be, and they definitely get caught if they try to compete with good players.

@Bolshoi, don't make cheating accusations on the forum. You should have reported him to the mods if you had a problem.

@Nigee, report anyone you have issues with to the mods, and play higher pot and/or password protected games like YJ said.

This is what I want you to do. If I don't see you do this, and you complain again, I'll be rather annoyed:

1) Make a thread. Call it: "Looking for qualities players for a game"

In the subject write: "Tired of cheaters in my game. Post here to express your interest in an anonymous WTA game (points to be decided). I'll make the game when we have enough interested players"

3) Wait.

4) Look at people's profiles. If they look suspicious *DONT GIVE THEM THE PASSWORD*

5) Have a fun game.

5 should be creating the game and giving passwords, 6 should be wait again and 7 should be have a fun game, but for the rest abge is extremely right!

oh no! no i've got a star on this stupid thread...
but seriously, passworded games are good for this, but then players with bad records/ratings (such as myself) don't get to play with you and we bad players would like a good game too, we have bad records/ratings because of those bad games :)
therefore tournaments are nice but there is more chance of the things screwing a game (DCs, multi's and metagamers mostly) also just making a passworded game and make a thread with game and password goes quicker and leaves out the people who don't look at the forum, and those tend to be cheaters (i mean, come on, otherwise they would know they'll get caught by those crimefighting mods around here... :))

To be honest I'm knew to this forum and don't know all the locals so am happy to play with other newbies in non-password games that may be of a lower quality but then I'm just learning my trade, also I get the feeling that the guys with the big points know what is going on so I find it easier to play anonymous games where I don't know if the player has a high ranking, then treat everyone equally based on their moves and not their reputation. It's just that sometimes anonymous people seem to be two mates in a room trying to get 17 SCs each, that just spoils the game and is a waste of time and is no fun, that was my point.
p.s. Bolshoi, when people act like a dick sometimes it's difficult not to just fight them even if it means losing the game. I can get more fun hearing some people whine afterwards than actually saving the game, I'm sure people know a few of these people on this site.

Well, do what abge says. You can advertise that it is for 'new players' too.

"I can get more fun hearing some people whine afterwards than actually saving the game, I'm sure people know a few of these people on this site."

maybe those whom you are accusing of malfeasance are thinking exactly the same thing, particularly since you are coming off as the primary whiner on webdiplomacy.

Apparently I'm not a newbie anymore, I've gone from being a political puppet to a pro. I don't think that reflects my Diplomacy prowess but is a sad and sordid reminder of the nights standing on street corners trying to make ends meet and get me through college. I suppose there was a fair amount of 'back-stabbing' back then also ......

this is what i think of people frowning upon me
i don't care.

what happens if you're playing a non-live game and the tides have turned, and it's clear your alliance will lose, and none of the opposition will defect? for live games, i usually play them through because it doesn't take too long to end them, but who wants to spend weeks playing a game that you will eventually lose?

Somaliland
Does anyone else ever get frustrated at the lack of international recognition of Somaliland? I find myself coming back to this subject over and over, trying to find any good reason to not recognize a democratic state in Africa with a history of free and fair elections, non-violent transitions of power, and relatively stable economic growth.

DATC and the known errors on this site
I took a look at the DATC tests here (http://webdiplomacy.net/datc.php) and noticed that 6.H (Retreating), 6.I (Building) and 6.J (Civil Disorder and Disbands) were all missing. Two of the most prominent errors on this site fall in this area (ending games before retreats and incorrect civil disorder disbands).

Failed move?!
Basicly the situation was that while playing as turkey in the late 1901 I moved my army from Bul to Gre and another one from Con to Bul via land, supported by a fleet in the black sea, but somehow the move failed and the army order is referred as hold in the orders log. My other army emptied Bul and noone else attacked there so why did the move fail? Any ideas?

Points Lost in Cheating Matches
Do the moderators reimburse points to players retrospectively when they find they were victims of cheating in previous matches?
Also on a general point why do so many people try and cheat, what is the point?

website does not always display all games / how do you resign a game?
The website does not always display all 4 of my games at the top. Therefore, I got into a game on the late end of the turn and got attacked because I couldn't negotiate from the beginning, and it is ruined once again. This would not have happened if I could have resigned the first 2 games. They continue to display at the top of the screen even though I want to quit. How do you resign / surrender?
Overall, I have had a much worse experience with this website than I expected.
