I noticed that you silenced Draugnar for 24 hours for making a cheating accusation in the forum. Is that standard practice?

I too agree with Lando. Draug did go off the deep end it is true, but not being in the game, and after reading the posts in this forum I say, with a degree of impartiality, that he was harshly treated.
I also feel compelled to add that some of those who judged him now taking part in the public witch hunt which seems to be gathering pace, is ever so slightly unedifying and most definitely not funny.

It seems the 'Trial by Witch Hunt' option is a popular one this week on WebDip.

I DEFINITELY received an email from the mods telling me that Babak slept with Draugnar's mother. DEFINITELY. It's fact.

c'mon Lando. He wasn't referring to a post in the thread. He created a new thread (http://webdiplomacy.net/forum.php?viewthread=804811#804811) attacking Babak and calling him a cheat. I don't get how you can say that is not a cheating accusation in the forum.

In any case, its over and done with. I'll try to stop posting about it so we can all move on.

"To silence an account for justiofiably being outraged is an abuse of power, in my opinion."

The mods can't win can they? If they silence a player (temporarliy) someone will say "its not *really* a cheating accusation. If they don't silence an account someone will say "its a cheating accusation".

Can't we just accept the mod's decision with good grace? And accept that the mod will sometimes make mistakes or sometimes make a decision that someone will disagree with. But all things considered, on balance, the mods make this site a better place.

Discuss topics politiely, sure. Suggest changes to procedures sure. But the mod bashing that has been going on has been ridiculous.

Whatever happened to Draug, whatever provoked it, he brought the silencing upon himself by his over-the-top reaction. It doesn't matter whether he was right and the mods shouldn't have paused the game. That is not the point. There is no excuse for carrying on like that (although I must sheepishly admit that I found it all a bit entertaining).

If everyone is dissatisfied with the mods we can lead a REVOLUTION! No one email them stuff no one acknowledge them pretend they don't exist be just like Ghandi in peaceful protest. If they ban us for that then it is all the more justified.
As far as I can tell the mods are trying to please everyone and in effect pleasing nobody.

I suggest they set some consistent procedures and apply them.

or they take a more relaxed approach and just do what they think is right.

Either is fine because then the community can have realistic expectations of what the mods can and will do. Right now we do not.

there is a separate but related issue of significant increases in cheating. I don't have answers for this but I believe that a portion of this is the failure of the current regime.

No wonder there are so few. No one wants it.
"Clearly not, because you won't stop bitching about it.

What do you want from me? This is how our conversation always goes:

Santa: I have a problem
Me: OK, email us and I'll look into it
Santa: No "
Absolutely wrong

I do not have a problem anymore, as I always make clear, because of alterations I made in my play. I loved to play live games. I stopped playing them several months ago because the Mods showed that it takes them weeks to respond (for good reasons I am told but weeks nonetheles) and when they do they don't do shit. I changed my playing habits in response to the general lawlessness in live matches, so I no longer have problems. Meanwhile I also had problems with the world game where krellin cheated 2 months ago but again I realized nothing would have gotten done. It isn't worth my time. You want an answer from me? How about you make it so i can play a live match under 100 D where every other player isn't a god damned multi.

But just keep on taking my statements out of context and turning them around. Agbe is great at that.
____________________________

And that Invitational line is bullshit.

I played in Geo's gunboat Tournament. There was an NMR at a CRITICAL time. My opponent was hot to take advantage of it. I went to the tournament director and asked for a pause or a replacement. I was told tough luck, IN A TOURNAMENT. I had to wait for a CD by which time it was over. Geo treated me, as always, as a general trouble maker and gave the ever present "tough luck" response.

Babak has an invitational, he asks, he gets even without an NMR in less than a day.

You all can deny favoritism all you want. I know it and it is plain to see.

One aspect that appears to have escaped attention is that we recently had a thread here about how some people view ''putting in'' an NMR as a legitimate tactic. Now if Sarg was about to CD then just perhaps I could understand what happened, but at the NMR stage......Something is amiss I am afraid.

I agree with this part. I hope we can change too and I am discussing it internally with the others.

"there is a separate but related issue of significant increases in cheating. I don't have answers for this but I believe that a portion of this is the failure of the current regime."

That is not true, the cheating is about constant. People have been believing there has "been a lot more cheating lately," as far as I can tell, since like 2007.

hmm Santa, that's actually a pretty well put together argument. No idea if its true or not, but at least my interest is peaked. I'm going to start the 8th new thread today on this topic and call it,

@ Thucydides - I think you're right. If anything I have noticed LESS problems with multis and cheats in the last couple of months, compared to how bad things seemed to be earlier this year. I don't think things are all that bad lately.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Specifically speaking toward you, Santa, and anyone who has a problem with the ways mods treat them.

I personally do not actually know or remember any specific people who are self-described "mod-enemies."

Being perfectly honest, I always remember that there *are* people who are pretty critical, but never remember who, until moments like these where the concerns are raised again.

Blame my poor memory, or blame the fact that I guess I have not ever really handled that many of these controversial cases, and therefore rarely know what is going on (I don't know now, either), but in the end, know that from my chair here at least there is no favoritism or preferencing in mod behavior. I know for myself that I have no motivation to. What would be the point?

They aren't, they are very good people, but they have a lot of work to do an for no play. The major issue I have recently is the knee jerk defensiveness from the community. I brought these issues up when they occurred and I was shouted down. I am treated not as someone with a legitimate concern but as a constant pain in the ass. And before any serious discussion is made the Koombaya crowd comes in and tries to make me feel bad about voicing any concerns at all.
*no pay

I should also note that I was heretofore unaware of who our favorites were supposed to be (Babak apparently?), equally as I was unaware of who we were supposed to be systematically mistreating.

Oh well. I guess you can the call the Ignorant Mod.
@Thucy - there are definitely peaks and valleys in the cheating spectrum. As far as I can tell, this is the highest peak I have been around for.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

I like you Santa, you're a fucking rabble rouser, which is exactly what I would be if I weren't far too cynical and apathetic. Gotta choose your battles, mate, and mostly irrelevant moderator decisions on an online game is not a battle I would invest any real time in.

I've been threatened/warned by mods for various reasons (1 I agree with, 1 that was b.s.) but I'm not gonna fly off the handle about it.

They basically told me I'm now bannable at the drop of a hat, so I'm just gonna enjoy my days and have fun. I'll eventually say something stupid and get nailed, and no matter what some mod thinks (sorry guys I do like you each individually but DAMN) I'm still a great guy to actually PLAY THE GAME with.

Anything outside of that is irrelevant IMO. That's just me though.

To all on hear who either supported me or dissed me... The mods did what was right. I needed the 24 hour silencing. In fact, I asked them to perma silence me from the forum. they didn't, so I'm able to say this, but they were (or more specifically, abgemacht was) correct to silence me. Sorry for my outburst and I am especially sorry for the way I treated the mods, but they were completely justified in their actions against me.

It's funny how immature minds can't grasp how authority works and why it is needed.
The moderators have the authority, exercised it, and without it this site descends into chaos.
A tiny microcosm of how society works as well.
Draug just found out his own image of importance to the larger scheme was categorically wrong.
Read the rules and obey the rules.
If you break them have some dignity when you get caught.
The sniveling whining of immature brats is revolting.
There is no money risked on this site if I'm not mistaken so it is glaringly evident that most users have a flawed perspective of this site.
It's a game played by anonymous fictional identities.
Try to grasp the obvious and don't get carried away in fantasy and self-delusion.
Time to smoke a bowl and take the dogs for walk.
There is nothing like smoking a cigar on a cool night while walking the dogs stoned.
Now that is perspective.
Draugnar (0 DX)

@TC - *You* may not have risked any money, but look to the little silver coin next to my name and the bronze, silver, and gold coins on amny a user's name. That means we contributed and therefore have a vested interest (i.e. a monetary risk) in the site.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

I have not played a GOOD world game in a long time. I wonder if it is possible to have 17 out of the top 100 GR players join such a game. It would be quite a feat. The culture of canceling games
I think games get cancelled too readily on this site. Iif someone NMRs in the first year then by all means it is easier to start again. But a few years into the game I think you should just play it out. So what if someone else gets lucky because of a fortunate NMR or CD. It's only a game. And it is such a big investment of time and effort to call it quits with no result.
