I'd be interested in a game like this. I'd prefer 48 hr turns, but could do 36. Non anonymous is better, but can go either way.
points - 1-200? ish? points dont matter, record matters. my win/draw is around 70%, i'd prefer a high skill level to a high point toal...

Macchiavelli. As of the October rankings, you are ranked at #90 with a "GhostRating" of ~260. Ghost Rating is a system of rating players that play on webdip that not only rates them on how well they perform, but also measures how well they have performed against other "good" competition versus "bad" competiton. ie. you get more credit for beating other high ranked players than if you beat a bunch of noobs. You are very highly ranked for a relatively new player to the site with only 39 games, so great job.

uclabb... do you think if we set an 'honor system' finalization for retreats/builds would work? I would think that 48hrs, we might not need a pause for the holidays...

but i'm open to both, and it seems most are as well.

It's not a deal-breaker for me, but I guarantee you the game will be drawn really prematurely just because the game is getting stale if we do go with 48 hours.

I agree - if we go on the basis that the 17 players will be from Top (or near) 100 GR rankings then we should have an honourable group who will finalise on retreats and, in most cases, builds.

36 hours often unfairly affects the players not located in a North American time zone - it doesn't give adequate enough time for an exchange of replies to take place across continental time zone whilst people on the same continent would have the right amount of time to bounce messages and be online together.

then maybe we can get a *pledge* from each player on the finalizing issue. we can add that to the list so each player can pledge so they are clear what the expectation is.

what do you think uclabb? do you still think the 'stale' issue will be relevant if we finalize summer and winter turns?

Like I said, it isn't a deal-breaker or anything, just a suggestion, but I feel pretty confident that 1 time out of 17 I will have a reason to want to delay finalizing a retreat, and I don't think that's just me. I seriously doubt that the honor system would work with a group of 17 people.

damian, is the Dec 18th deadline a hard deadline? I presume this is because of finals etc. I'm wondering if others would be willing to wait until then, though I have no problem with it.

uclabb - you do make a very solid point, and that is a fear. I personally can do fine with 36 hours, but I do hope it does not impede people playing their best game. my question is if these would be types of players to get bored when the game is just getting exciting and its down to 5 or 6 players and I would hope a healthy helping of reminders to finalize in the 'global' tab might sway folks - specially after they have *pledged*.
