An Apology to All I Have Troubled
Hey everyone it's me Zezima or Sniffy whichever you prefer... or don't prefer. The past couple days I have caused a lot of havoc here in the forums for my metagaming. I've come to say to all of you that I am sorry for what I have done. Right or Wrong it is not acceptable in this community and I will no longer metagame. I can only hope the community will accept my apology and maybe even forgive me for what I have done.

Sincerely,
Zezima

Unit Retreat question
If, for instance i had a fleet in the Gulf of Lyon and another on the South Coast of Spain which i then supported into the West Med, from the Gulf, would the enemy fleet that is already in the West Med be given the option of retreating to the Mid Atlantic?

The enemy fleet is from an Eastern nation and i am a Western power, if that makes any difference..

I don't normally mention its a boardgame, and just leave them to work that out over time. I've found with my power-mad friends if you tell them its about manipulation and playing with peoples minds they're hooked!

see if ur partner did start to play how would u cope if she was amazing at it and kicked ur arse - would be a bit of a stab to ur pride no? ;)

@sceptic_ka: We might not have a screen turned on, but I think we all play Diplomacy in bed with our spouses/gf's on a regular basis. Zaaa-ZING!

I actually had this discussion with my friends (we were trying to find a 7th player and gf/wives were brought up). Every single one of us married or dating and ALL of the women hate the game and they hate us when we're playing it.

We're all fairly new to the game, so the tendency to just stare and think at a map full of tanks, boats, and colored arrows while drowning out all other stimuli is quite high.

I spend an hour or so on here most nights and check messages at work. When I finish my wife who has sat and watched hollyoak, eastenders, coronation street etc etc always says 'why do you waste so much time on that site?'

If it wasn't for emmerdale my wife would never get any fresh air!

Diplomacy is Survivor/Big Brother: The Board Game. My wife got it when I put it that way. But I still get "You not playing that game AGAIN?!" virtually every night.

LOL! Agreed.

"But I still get "You not playing that game AGAIN?!" virtually every night."

Same here. :)

Mrs. mapleleaf does not like computers or the internet. I throw the wonders of the internet up in her face regularly, but she remains smug in her computer aloofness. I am always on these infernal machines for one reason or another anyway. The game makes no difference.

I've introduced my partner to Settlers of Catan, and she can't get enough of the game, but the second the 'd-word' is raised, she tunes out.
Draugnar (0 DX)

My wife is a fan of Settlers and Ticket to Ride. We used to go to boardgaming night with the Cincy Boardgamers, but not Diplomacy or Axis & Allies.

Some friends and I managed to get a couple of girls at school to play Risk, with some drinking of course. Playing Diplomacy drunk might be the worst idea ever, though.

Next semester I'm going to bring my board down and force my fraternity brothers to play a game. It just might work. What else do you do on a week night? Not study, that's for sure.
jasoncollins (186 D)

I got my gf to play a few games of axis and allies, and she thought it was a lot of fun - not addictive for her, but she enjoyed herself. Then we played diplomacy with a group of friends and same thing - though we didn't end up finishing the game. I have found from playing diplomacy in person, it helps to have one or two females in the group who are there more for a good time/enjoy - takes a lot of competitiveness/tension out of the game. Unless you're the one dating them, in which don't you dare backstab anytime early!!

Ha! I knew meta-diplomacy existed before PhPDiplomacy :-)

Funny article, Ghost. Same thing applies to Poker at the small stakes cash and small tourney level. You'd be suprised how much flirting the ladies do to distract you and how "dumb" they'll play the part for as long as they can. I had one next to me one night who kept rubbing my shoulder (cash game) and distracting me until a seat opened up three seats down and I moved so I could get my focus back.

kaner...im not really sure where you're from but where im from "partner" tends to mean same-sex partner. Maybe i just want some closure, but your dedication to not say girlfriend\wife\secrete lover\liaison kinda bugs me.

@Thucydides - you just said you had two girlfriends. I'm sorry, but you just lost your nerd cred. A nerd is ecstatic with one, and would never even consider, less know what to do with, two.

So we all know you're a liar. Oh, wait. You play Diplomacy. Duh.

LeeAnna will play any other game, (Army of Two, Fallout, Halo, Savage Worlds, D&D, Etc), with me, but she refuses to play this one. I just think it is because I refuse to watch Twilight with her. Ohh well. BTW, I noticed. No matter our hatred in-game and in-forum, we still seem to have a bond or comradary between each other. We seem to curious about questions like this. No matter how harsh we pursicute each other in these multiaccounters Witch trials or however many times we betray each other, I am proud to call my fellow devious dictators (Diplomacy players) my brothers.

@ whitesammy:
if you had read the post:
"my partner gets excited when I get excited over 'conquering' the world as SHE puts it"
I would have assumed that you concluded that my partner is a woman. I am a man. And yes she is my wife.
You kinda bug me. oh sorry... are you
girlfriend\wife\secrete lover\liaison - less?

"I've introduced my partner to Settlers of Catan, and she can't get enough of the game, but the second the 'd-word' is raised, she tunes out."

To avoid meta-gaming, is there a case for removing the names of players from the games they are involved in? perhaps you could just leave the score , shich changes regularly anyway as a guide to your contestants abilities?

Counterpart Countries
I've seen this theory that suggests that in the EFG and ART triangles there are coutries which are counterparts of each other (namely E-T F-R and G-A) such that they do well with each other and also have similar playing styles. What does your own experience show about this?

Submariner is untrustworthy and cannot read.
He turned on me in one game, then I got stuck in 2 more with him. He contacted me in both games to make an alliance again. I pointed out we are allies in 2 games so it could work our well, and he accused me of meta gaming.
