I saw a dead bird on campus today
It made me pretty uncomfortable sitting on the bench near it. It was a red cardinal
I wonder why it died, and if marxism had something to do with it. I decided to sit inside instead and listen to some modest mouse.

I blame Abraham Lincoln
He screwed over the south's economy without granting them an alternative, devastated their homeland and subjugated them to the union. There's no coincidence that these people's descendants elected Trump today. They have been disenfranchised and alienated and economically subjugate since before 1860. We are paying for the sins of our fathers.

The union should've bought the slaves' freedom the same way Britain did.

"Innocent until proven guilty" - Trump have said some lines that may be concerning, but he didn't have done anything until now. Until the moment he gives an order or utilizes personal action that breaks the law, he isn't worse than Hitler. Period.

In the USA, the land of the free (or at least we were taught it that way), free speech and democracy reigns superior and trumps every evil that sneaks upon it. (yeah, a little wordplay ... I'm not ashamed) There may be times where this ideal is clouded and shrouded in mist, but the principles of this nation are strong pillars you can rely on. So don't despair and have faith in the people who voted, they have their reasons. Trump isn't one coloured as he was presented, there are facettes of colours in him that many people need yet to see. Time will show if these colours are that of democracy and liberty for all americans. (If not, you have official ways to get rid of a tyrant/dictator.)

America’s largest state economy is California, which produced $2.44 trillion of economic output in 2015, just slightly above the GDP of France during the same period of $2.42 trillion.

Consider this: California has a workforce of about 19 million compared to an employment level in France of slightly more than 25 million workers. Amazingly, it required 56 percent (and 9 million) more workers in France to produce the same economic output last year as California! That’s a testament to the superior, world-class productivity of the American worker.

Further, California as a separate country would have been the sixth largest economy in the world last year, ahead of France ($2.42 trillion) and India ($2.09 trillion) and not too far behind No. 5 U.K. at $2.85 trillion.

Back on topic: I hope that we can reach out to folks so we can stop all of this rhetoric and have unity now. Talks of secession, protests, riots, and other actions by the left is not good. IT will only break us apart. Let's come together now.

ask the last group of people what happened when they tried to secede.

If California tries, it means war

No, democracy is this action. Having your voice heard is the most fundamental aspect of rule by the demos. The people.

And this is what the people feel, listen to them.
JamesYanik (548 D)

Texas is the one state that could create some kind of legitimate argument to secede for me. I know the economics are feasible, but our country is about more than that

"We" being who, ND? All Americans? Including the ones Trump pledged to discriminate against on the basis of their religion, their sexual orientation, and their place of origin?

It's very common for elections to have a majority vote to screw over a significant portion of the populace, and it's usually fine - that's the way democracy works. In this case it's different - it's a president who was voted in not just with policies that would negatively affect people, but who was voted in on a platform of demonising them and promising to discriminate against them. Telling these people to 'unite under Trump' is telling them to accept that they're the demons Trump made them out to be, and accept that they will be discriminated against as policy for the next 4 years.

Blacks could not vote. They were counted as 3/5 of a *person*, which is even worse than getting 3/5 of a vote.

Kakarroto (128 D)

This system is in place for a long period of time. There was a supermajority of the democrats who could've changed the system. They didn't do it. The rules of the voting system still holds true.

Try to change it for the future, try to reach out to your senator, your gouvenor, to your representant. It will not remedy the last election void though.

What Abge said, 3/5ths for the purpose of calculating population - and thus how many electoral votes the states they lived in got.

Becuase the northern states wanted them to count as zero persons, and the slave owning states wanted them to count as full persons. (That way you could increase your electoral power by importing more people, as slaves, who would each count fully...)

So they compromised.

Are you literally blind? The people who voted for Trump believe the system is rigged against them. Because it is. It is rigged to allow the rich, under the guise of faceless corporations, exploit and oppress them. It offers fair trials only to those who have enough money to pay for them. It offers corporations a bigger say in law-making via lobbiests and a bigger say in elections via political campaigns. It is more like 'One dollar, one vote', than 'One person, one vote'.

The supreme court declared money speech and corporations people. Therefore freedom to criticise the government has become freedom to buy politicians. Corruption cloaked inder the guise of freedom.

And many people who suffered under this broken system just elected Trump!

Trump has never said he would try to get Citizens United repealed. Clinton was the only candidate who might've selected a justice that would overturn CU.

Your love for Hillary is astounding. You people honestly believe that you're more intelligent than Trump supporters? Your dumb stupid naive childish retarded minds were exposed the moment you fuckers failed the incorruptible, never-took-a-dollar-from-corporations, stood for gay rights when it was unpopular, voted against wars when they were popular Bernie Sanders.
