Question: Is the "Republic vs. Democracy" thing just an American thing?
I've heard Americans talk about how "America is a republic not a democracy". Using the standard definitions of those words it doesn't make any sense, however if you use the ridiculous definitions those people come up with than it is true. Does anyone outside of the US use this ridiculous dichotomy or is it just Americans?

Sorry TrPrado, but the model predicted an Obama win and Obama won.

Unless you are telling me the past 8 years were just some nightmare that I had and I will wake up and McCain will be president.
ND (879 D)
20 Oct 16 UTC
Wouldn't it be wonderful if I could wake up and it is 2008 again and McCain is president? Man, that would be amazing. The past 8 years of this nightmarish existence will be over in a flash.
TrPrado (461 D)

That doesn't defeat the fact that it was less accurate than 538 when 538 was at its least accurate.

Good news, everyone! The election is over!

The fate of Witney hangs in the balance. Candidates include a crazed immigrant determined to destroy British culture and way of life (Larry Sanders of the Green Party), Emilia Rose Arno of the One Love Party, and the people's favourite David Laurence Bishop of the Bus-Pass Elvis Party.

It's all over bar the counting...

ND if you wake up in 2008 and McCain is President be sure to say hi to Walter Bishop for me. Obama wasnt sworn in til 2009 lol, and McCain lost by a fuckload.

I dont think partisan bickering is/was obamas fualt. Congress has a 11% approval rating. Obamas is nearly 60%. Someone sucks at their job...

I'll freely admit to not being the sharpest tool in the box, but can someone explain to me this magical universe where either
(a) if Trump wins, this prediction model is right and it has been right since 1996 and we should have known that it would correctly predict a Trump win because it has been correct five times using data going back from 1912 (regardless of voter fraud, demographics changes, etc)
or (b) if Trump loses, then the election has been rigged because the damn Democrats have been rigging election since forever and the results are invalid (but they are valid if Trump wins).

It must be wonderful to live in a universe where regardless of whatever happens, you are always right and there has always been evidence that you are right. Please make this universe my universe again also.

I'm going to ask people from using that kind of language. If you feel that you have to use that kind of language, feel free to go elsewhere. Despite how ridiculous I may think ND's position is on this issue, he has been civil.

To that point, Jamiet, you have no room to call anyone a hypocrite. You complain and bitch and moan whenever someone says something you don't agree with or when they spew vile and disgusting language on the forum (there is a long history in the forum and in mod emails and in emails to me), but that doesn't seem to bother you when you do exactly just that. You admonish people when they use ad hominems but that doesn't prevent you from doing exactly that and worse. You resort to these tactics when it fits you and claim the moral high ground when you please.
ND (879 D)

I hope the forum will unanimously condemn Jamie for his language. I am very offended.

People You Know
So, when it comes to friends and family, one should only play password protected games with them. But what about people I am meeting at face to face games in clubs in my state? What about if I start getting involved in the tournament scene? How do the more experienced players on here handle it? At what point does it become inappropriate to play in public games with people you have met through the game?

in a recent poll 7% of Americans value the continuity of government by supporting Gary Johnson for president. The other 93%? well they are split between a Guinea pig mounted atop a racist cantaloupe; and a half robot, half human she-devil.
