I Need a Mod
I need a mod to take a look at some reason postings in the thread I maintain, the Daily Bible Reading because a player is posting extremely offensive material of a graphic sexual nature that is completely unrelated to the topic. I muted him, but want to know if this is permitted or if it can be deleted from the Forum.

I need a God
I need a God to take a look at some reason postings in the prayers I maintain, the King James Bible because a neighbour is posting extremely offensive material of a graphic sexual nature that is completely unrelated to the topic. I forgave him, but want to know if this is permitted or if it can be deleted from the Universe.

The Return of NFL Pick 'em: Week 1 (Plus your picks for Playoff Teams + The Super Bowl!)
So a day late and seven Peyton TDs later--damn, he was great last night!--NFL Pick 'em is back...
So, besides the Broncos/Ravens game, pick the winners for the Week 1 match-ups...THEN pick your playoff teams (the 1-6 seeds for each conference) and then, of course...your Super Bowl match-up and champs.
So, NFL, Week 1...PICK 'EM!

Welfare pays better than work in the US
A mother of two in New York is eligible for more in welfare benefits than starting salaries for school teachers in the state. Hawaii offered the most money to a mother of two, $60, 590 and Idaho the least $11,150. 33 states offer more in welfare than full-time minimum wage work earns.

Yeah I get that. I'm just saying that this chart doesn't indicate what sort of social policies would be imposed in an authoritative state.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
@abge It doesn't have to. Desire for any social policy regulation may be assumed to push you farther north.

I'll try to break it down with a 9 point plot into what government styles Americans associate.

NW: communist (N. Korea style)
N: fascist
NE: tzarist?
W: economic socialist
C: Moderate
E: free market capitalist
SW: ??
S: anarchist
SE: I'd call this "American Libertarianism", I'm not sure why they put it on the "E" position.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
18 Aug 13 UTC
Yeah I get all that. I'm just saying you could have societies with the same coordinates that are very different to live in.

My bigger problem is that you were only given 4 options for each question. There were a couple questions I had no opinion on or I wasn't knowledgeable enough to really answer, but I was forced to agree or disagree with them.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
Haha SW is democrat and NE is republican :)
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
@abge oh, yes of course. Very true. It paints in broad strokes, but you buy simplicity with that.

SW would be like More's Utopia.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
Agreed, well said. repub and dem are both too moderate to be on the extreme SW/NE. That was just to put things in familiar terms (I had to look up utopia to know what you meant)

Economic Left/Right: 8.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.54

I'm almost exactly were Friedman is. I've become slightly more authoritarian since the last time I took it, but remain around +8 on the economic scale.

I suppose I do lean to the left, in the sense that I think everyone should have a minimum quality of living, the cost of which should be mitigated by the wealthy. I'm still surprised by the libertarian bend, though.

really, abge? You don't strike me as a person in favor of social regulations. What social views do you hold that you think might put you further north?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
18 Aug 13 UTC
Heh. I started making a list and then I realized they all related to economic policy. When it comes to non-economic policy, I guess I am pretty liberal (in the context of this chart, not the US).
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
18 Aug 13 UTC
By liberal I, of course, mean libertative.

This test is a load of horseshit. How am I more socially authoritarian than krellin? How are Ed Milliband and Barack Obama more right-wing than me? How is Sybvl36 in the same spot as Angel Merkel? How are Barack Obama and Hugo Chavez at the same level of social authoritarianism? This is a seriously flawed test.

Economic Left/Right: 1.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.41

@invictus

If you read the discussion in this thread, I think you'll see where your confusion lies.
dipplayer2004 (1110 D)
18 Aug 13 UTC
I have serious doubts about the test too.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
18 Aug 13 UTC
Although, I am quite surprised how close to center you scored economically... Did you answer the questions correctly? : )
Economic left/right -2
Authoritarianism/libertarian 2.97

Funny to see how I've drifted more and more to the left every time I take this quiz over the years. I used to be solid upper righthand corner haha
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
@abge yes, liberal/conservative in the american context refers exclusively to economic policy. You can see this realized by the SW to NE slope of the linear regression.

@invictus just a guess, but maybe it's your religious influences? Those score big on the authoritarian scale. Say what you want about krellin, I wasn't surprised to see him in the SE quadrant. He likes his social freedoms, and more importantly, he likes you to have yours :)

The national scale means you have to step out of the American political spectrum and look at all modern civilizations. The American "left" is quite NE indeed! I admit though, I was surprised to see him there, now that you mention it. I don't know how they compiled his data... perhaps from his voting record?
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
also guys, recopy the link after you take the test, so we can see you plotted.
Invictus (240 D)
18 Aug 13 UTC
(+1)
I just did that, and it was little help. Even considering how short the test is and how they may be using a definition of libertarianism unintuitive to Americans, there's no way Barack Obama is more right-wing than I am. Or that the president ought to score equally to Hugo Chavez in social authoritarianism. Or, most jarringly, that Sybvl36 (Mr. FreeTradeIsSocialism) should match exactly with the Queen of the Euro Angel Merkel. This is a fun way to spend a few minutes, but hardly an accurate portrayal of any of us, really.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@YJ

Yeah, but I though invictus was a pretty strong supporter of the free market.

abgemacht (1076 D(G))
18 Aug 13 UTC
On the other hand, I've always said that invictus is one of the few conservatives I can stomach on this forum. I guess its because he's actually a communist by US standards. : )
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
Huh well I don't know enough about them to say, I guess. I take your point about Obama though. Perhaps we should just use it to consider our own relative positions? I'll have to let sbyvl address your concern himself, I don't know enough of his politics to answer.

I can't say I like this quiz much. There are plenty of agrees/disagrees that I'd certainly not have put down if there were some form of an abstention.

But I can't argue. I am probably closer to anarchy than anyone else on this site.
