Arguing vs. Debating
Arguing is about bluster whereas debate is more about learning, than it is necessarily impressing the other side with how awesome your beliefs are.

Your favorite Avalon Hill style table top paper-cardboard-and-dice game?
A question for the old folks out there.
I don't remember the name of it, probably D-Day. Boxed, AH style. Covered Normandy invasion and reconquest of France. Played that over and over again back in the day. Good times.

My phone doesn't speak fucking Star Wars and autocorrects Lando to Landowner the first time after each reboot (doesn't want to hold it in the dictionary) and you fucking *threaten* me? Fuck you and the horse you rode in on! Next time *ask* me in PM if that was my intent or do a little research with a brain that has common sense like abgemacht's. You're a fucking cunt!

Question on new Americas' variant - 34 to solo?
Anyone have any idea why it is 34 SCs to solo? There are only about 58 or 59 SCs altogether so just wondering why the threshold isn't lower.

American game in need of people.
There is currently an American game titled "The Great War for Texornia" that has five spaces left. The five people currently listed do know each other. Alliances and enemies however, will be made under circumstance and not pre-game relationships. Please take that into account if you sign up. The toll is 15 D and the ps is turner.

Carlos Danger!
Anthony Weiner - Racist Sexist Liberal? Uses Hispanic-sounding name "Carlos" while trolling for sex and spreading images of his namesake. And clearly insults all Hispanics by attaching "Danger" to his Hispanic alias...lol Too funny!

What activist do you hate the worst
Activists of all political stripes are some of the most annoying and intelligence reducing people on earth. Name your most hated activist.

Right at the moment, I'm thinking Julian Assange. His pathological narcissism only serves to flimsily mask his profound idiocy.

But in all seriousness, yeah, I guess it does matter how we define "activist" or else this turns into an even larger shitshow.

Anders Behring Breivik. Who could be more unambiguously evil than someone who would murder scores of children to guarantee that their opinions would be the chief topic of discussion?

okay, here are a couple of obvious ones -

1) Greg Mortenson of Three Cups of Tea fame
- peace and childhood education advocate
- advocate for making shit up
- advocate for taking money from dumb ass liberals who throw their money at any idiot who says what they want to hear.

2) Lance Armstrong
- Cancer survivor and cancer research advocate
- Doping advocate

Why would anyone respond to that? The Dalai Lama and Mother Teresa are two of the biggest shitstains in world politics. They made (/make) a lifelong living out of fucking everyone else out of things they relied on.

some people may not want to hear this, but let's face it, M. Bachmann, is an activist politician of the worst kind. Her entire body of knowledge and world view seem to be informed solely by intellectually stunted conservative internet forums.

i mean, come on, even if you are conservative, you have to admit she's wack job who's drug political dialogue down to the level of forums like this.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Gunfighter06 (224 D)

Bachmann is an idiot and a disgrace of the highest order but at least she isn't treasonous. She is a complete whackjob who makes krellin look like a seasoned diplomat. Social conservatives piss me off to no end. I mean come on, if you're going to advocate fiscal conservatism at least have the decency to *not* be a hypocrite and be a social libertarian.

Social conservatives: Because government should not interfere with big business but government should interfere in the bedroom. #fucklogic

@Gunfighter: I don't usually like to get involved in political discussions, but I have to say, you nailed most of my political frustration with your last #fucklogic blurb. Too much contradiction *everywhere* on the political playing field.

So gun, you don't believe we should care for our fellow man when he is down and out? I identify as fiscal conservative but a touch liberal socially speaking. In fact, socially liberal means government stays the fuck *out* of the bedroom. When government tells gays they can't marry, then government *is* interferring in the bedroom. See the real hypocrisy there? Government should stay small and stay out of *everything*, only interferring to make certain basic human needs are met for people so we don't have abject poverty with people literally dying of starvation outside General Mills factory walls.

The right to life means the right to air, clean water, food, clothing, and shelter as these are necessities of life. Therefore we should guarantee everyone has these basics. That said, not everyone needs name brand jeans or filet mignon. Something a little above the workhouses in Oliver Twist or A Christmas Carol but still something that those who are able will galdly work to get out of. And in cases where they truly cannot work or care for themselves (the infirm, orhpans, and developmentally disabled), we should provide more than that bare minimum.

So, my logic is, treat others the way I would expect to be treated as a human being (not a fucking slave) but otherwise, keep your hands off my fucking money. Pretty simple really.

"When government tells gays they can't marry, then government *is* interferring in the bedroom."

Um, no they're not. That would be true only if it were illegal to have sex with somebody you were not married to.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Tell gun that. He was the one stated that "social libertarians" which I assumed he actually meant social liberals) were interferring in the bedroom. And it wasn't that long ago that sodomy *was* illegal (and may still be on the books in some states).

"And it wasn't that long ago that sodomy *was* illegal"

Yes, I know. That *was* interfering in the bedroom, unlike gay marriage (one way or the other).

"Tell gun that. He was the one stated that "social libertarians" which I assumed he actually meant social liberals) were interferring in the bedroom."

I see -- I missed that. I guess you're both wrong then. 8-)

This will be my first Gen Con, and I am very excited. I already signed up to be in as many diplomacy games as possible, are there any other games, similar to diplomacy, that I should look into? Ive been searching for an online multiplayer type game that involves controlling ones armies in actual battle. Does anyone know of any good ones?

Who the World Reads the Most: UNESCO'S Top 50 Authors (Shakespeare #3!) ;)
http://www.unesco.org/xtrans/bsstatexp.aspx?crit1L=5&nTyp=min&topN=50
Note this list doesn't count "group" works (see: The Torah, Koran, Bible, etc., which were either written over centuries or...erm, God, and putting HIM on the list just isn't fair, :p ) but still, for all our literature discussions, it's interesting to see who gets translated the most and thus, arguably, is the most widely-read (in one sense)...Shakespeare at #3 I can see, but some of these are ODD...

Although we started the games in the New Variant Gunboat Series with the now defunct rule of wait mode, some people have completely taken advantage of it. I am advancing the games that are overdue by at least 5 days tomorrow night. If you want to make your moves, please do so now. Thanks.

When you quote a sentence, then end the sentence the quote is in, does the start of the sentence the quote is in start with a capital or not?
So is it: "No." he said
Or is it: "No." He said.
Or is it something else?

Draws
I have just started playing Diplomacy. I have noticed draws are very common. Games with nearly destroyed players drawing. Is that mind set of most players going into the game. "I'm going to draw". I tend to vote draw allot being new and wanting to just not die. Can threads add a poll. It would be fun to see how many players go for draw vs victory as a pregame goal.

Seeing as the CONCACAF Gold Cup is underway, and all football eyes aimed at Brazil next year, I'm wondering if this may be the year for CONCACAF, AFC, or CAF to finally break thru and win the big one.
