I have personally visited relatives on a reservation in Kansas and I have visited friends on a reservation in Ontario, noted as one of the poorest reservations in North America. I'm also a white American male in the middle of Indiana. I think it's safe to say I've had my fair share of both sides of the matter without a single textbook.

If you have research to show that Aztecs are the same as Algonquins, cite it. And I will cite information otherwise because I have it open right now.

Nobody denied that humans are humans. Everyone except you is denying that Aztecs are culturally close to American Indians, and rightly so - they aren't. You seem to be falling away from your actual statement in favor of a very simplistic and very, very irrelevant one.

Is there an official definition of "American Indian"? It is restricted to the native cultures that existed when Europeans came to the new world and in what is now the United States? Or does it include Canada? If so, Eskimos? Does it include any cultures from Mexico or further south?

Wikipedia says it may refer to two different things: "the indigenous peoples within the present-day boundaries of the United States" or "the indigenous peoples of North and South America". It would seem by the second definition that Aztecs might be included.

In any case, it seems like this is a large argument that boils down to terminology without actually bothering to talk about the terminology. But I certainly could be missing a lot.

I don't know what's official. I say American Indian in reference to natives of today's United States and First Nations for those native to Canada.
