Two of my games just spontaneously went into pause without any of the players voting "pause". Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a bug?

MAD MARX GUNBOAT CHALLENGE
MadMarx is, without argument, the best player on this site. He claims to be bored, though, with his regular rotation of classic Diplomacy games. So why not try something new? I challenge you, MM, to a single game of gunboat with some of the top gunboaters on this site. You can have final approval over pot size, phase length, and the other players in the game. What do you say?

Hell does exist, gavrilop. That's the pouint. You don't believe in it but then you don't believe in God. So you want athieism taught but not religion. As far as LGBT, that is becoming a smaller and smaller subset of religion that believes that. would you throw out the baby with the bathwater? That is the bathwater and it is almost completely drained out of the tub as it is. Women secondary to men? Maybe the Muslims believe that and those old fucks in Rome, but I can't think of *any* mainstream protestant religion that views women as less than men.

People of others faith or nonfaiths as suspect is a perfectly valid viewpoint when they are militant athiests such as yourself. You threaten the very fabric of what is religious freedom (which I should point out protects your right to not believeas well) with you stated desire to ban religion. and yes, you stated that desire, so don't try lying your way out of that.

As far as confronted with other beliefs, it is the parent's privilege and freedom to raise their children as they see fit until that child is old enough to decide for themselves. It is not your right to make demands on what parents may or may not teach. The moment you take away the parent's freedom, you take away your own freedom and open a door for the state to legislate religion. there are still more religious people in the world and that would virtually guarntee that the US would become a Jewish/Christian nation and that any not ebelieving in at least Jehovah would be breakign the law. Do you really want that? Be careful what you wish for.

>You don't know whether hell exists or not.

I do, but so what? I'm allowed to spread my beliefs.

> you said that you want to spread atheism, and teach/not teach that hell is real. So wherever you plan to do that.

So you're saying I have no right to talk to people on internet message boards, or on the street, or in bars, and tell them that there is no God and no hell. I have no right to buy the same public billboards that Christians can buy. That's what you're saying?

> but I guess you only want that if those beliefs are yours?

No. Why don't you stop putting words in my mouth, seth? I want people of various faiths and nonfaiths to live together peacefully in the same communities. We can't do that if we're not confronted with each others' beliefs.

> I don't believe it is immoral to spread Cristianity, however I take issue with the way many Cristians go about that spread.

Well, why don't you list the things you think it's immoral for Christians to do to spread Christianity, and we'll see if any of the things I want to do are on that list.

You want atheists to stop being atheists, don't you? You want atheists to become Christians, and thereby to stop teaching atheism, and to teach Christianity instead.

Draugnar, you make a false equivalence.

Saying that the government has no business teaching religion, but that to teach secular ideas (you know, math, science, etc) are the same as teaching religion is insane.

My position, as one of webdips "militant" atheists is that the public schools and public institutions in this country have no business having anything to say about any religion, pro or con.

Also, you saying "Hell exists" has precisely the same amount of truth if I asserted that Russel's Teapot existed.

And yeah, you can reel off quote after quote from your book that says women are subordinate to men, etc.

And the fact that you in the modern age can explain that away (and that your antecedents would disagree with your interpretation) is what scares me about religion.

It can be reinterpreted and redefined to back up basically any position you want to take. It has no actual meaning itself, but is used as a piss-poor justification for what you already feel or have been indoctrinated by others to feel.

I'm sure you could find justification for anything ranging from curtailing the rights of non Christians. Or the forcible conversion to your particular flavor. Or the execution of heathens and heretics by immolation.

All of these things have been done, and their interpretation is just as valid as yours.

So basically, when I hear people use the Bible as justification for any act, I really hear "I can't think for myself, so I need a two thousand year old book, and you better hope that I'm not going to do anything really terrible as a result"

"Saying that the government has no business teaching religion, but that to teach secular ideas (you know, math, science, etc) are the same as teaching religion is insane."

I said nothing of the sort. I said doing away with the freedom of religion opens the door to the government establishing a set religion which would do the exact opposite of what he desired.

I also said that telling *parents* what they can and cannot teach is the first step down that slippery slope. I said nothing of government sponsored education nor did I infer any such thing.

@gavrilop - What about the SBC says women are less then men? Please be more specific than a general pointer. True that they don't allow women pastors (although the larger Lutheran faith does) but that is what they view as a biblical restriction and is no different than not allowing a woman to be a kicker in the NFL. It is a job restriction, not a judgement on the gender.

gavrilop (357 D)
26 Jun 13 UTC
> True that they don't allow women pastors

Right, they should stop that. You can say it doesn't mean they view women as secondary to men. I say it does. We can agree to disagree.

Why don't you admit that I did not say I want to ban religion?
Jack_Klein (897 D)
26 Jun 13 UTC
But without any proof, I think we can safely say that hell, Zeus, Russel's Teapot, the invisible pink unicorn are all equally not true.

You keep forgetting... if you say something exists, you have the burden of proof to show that it does.
gavrilop (357 D)
26 Jun 13 UTC
> Um, no you don't You can't prove a negative therefore you cannot know whether hell exists or not.

I do know. I know it doesn't exist, just as well as you know that it does exist. When I believed in God, I asked him if Hell exists. He said nope!

No, I don't know it does exist. I believe it exists. I know water is two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. I believe hell exists. See the difference. You do not *know* it fordn't rexist, but you *believe* it doesn't exist.
Draugnar (0 DX)

"You keep forgetting... if you say something exists, you have the burden of proof to show that it does. "

False. I only have that obligation if I assert it as fact. when stated as a belief, as I have, I have no such obligation.
Jack_Klein (897 D)
26 Jun 13 UTC
Ok, and I'm under no obligation to give your silly beliefs any credence whatsoever.

As a matter of fact, I find them absurd and laughable.

So if you want to be taken seriously on an intellectual level, you're going to have to have some proof to back up your wild statements.

I respect you as a person, and I respect your right to believe in any silly idea you want.

But I don't have to respect the silly idea. And I don't.

"My position, as one of webdips "militant" atheists is that the public schools and public institutions in this country have no business having anything to say about any religion, pro or con."

I actually agree with this as I feel schools should only teach any "religious" view under a comparative religions/philosophy class. I don't believe creationism should be taught in a science class or that any Biblical references should be taught in History beyond what can be established with historical record (i.e. the Jews were slaves to Egypt).

"I respect you as a person, and I respect your right to believe in any silly idea you want.

But I don't have to respect the silly idea. And I don't. "

And again we agree. Funny how that works. Freedom is freedom for believers and non-believers. I would have it no other way.
Jack_Klein (897 D)

On a side note, there is basically no evidence that the Jews were enslaved in Egypt. No state records, or other corroborating evidence from any other source.

"List immoral ways to spread Cristianity" I'm not making a list, you can if you want and I will say yea or nea. But as I said earlier many methods are stupid and I would rather see people left to their own opinions most times.

I know this is a little late but whatever.

NO SHIT seth. Why don't you stop putting words in my mouth?

>I just said how much I hate when Cristians do that. In case you haven't noticed I've been saying that people should be left to themselves as far as religion is concerned.

You also said that I don't have the right to teach people that there is no God and no Hell. That's different from saying you prefer that I don't.

> but yet you don't want the others beliefs to be taught, which is what you have argued.

That is not true. If you say this again, you are lying.

> "List immoral ways to spread Cristianity" I'm not making a list

You've done enough. You say you don't want Christians talking to people on the street or in bars or on internet message boards and trying to convince them to become Christians. I think that's absurd. If a Christian tries to proselytize to me on the street, I can walk away. I usually talk to them if I have the time, but it's not a big freaking deal either way.

Simple statement. Religion belongs in the home and the church. It does not belong in the classroom. I won't deny this. However, it also should not be denied as an after school activity amongst youth who seek to pray and study with like minded individuals (i.e. prayer groups) as this is in direct violation of the statement "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" In short, Congress has no rights with religion at all. Period. The first amendment has never been repealed nor has any later amendment usurped it in any way shape or form, not even the Interstate commerce clause.

Yes, I want parents to stop believing in Hell and teach their children that.

> (which, by extension, means you don't want the other taught).

I also don't want white supremacists to teach their kids to be white supremacists. That doesn't mean I want to use the apparatus of the state to forbid people from teaching their children to become white supremacists.

Jack corrected you on this too.

> In short, you want a parent's freedom to raise their children as they see fit overridden.

In short, you're lying, Draugnar. You should repent.

seth,
