Pause error?
Two of my games just spontaneously went into pause without any of the players voting "pause". Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a bug?

MAD MARX GUNBOAT CHALLENGE
MadMarx is, without argument, the best player on this site. He claims to be bored, though, with his regular rotation of classic Diplomacy games. So why not try something new? I challenge you, MM, to a single game of gunboat with some of the top gunboaters on this site. You can have final approval over pot size, phase length, and the other players in the game. What do you say?

China, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador--Snowden's Idea of a "Free State?"
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/snowden-washington-reaction-182004272.html "The freedom trail is not exactly China-Russia-Cuba-Venezuela" I have to agree...explain to me again how this guy's a symbol for freedom again (and again, do so WITHOUT saying "Well, the NSA was wrong--" YES. YES IT WAS. That does NOT mean this guy's good...really? Why pick those states, if he couldn't stand what the NSA was doing...they're not exactly Paradises of Government Transparency either...)

The Beginning of the End for Affirmative Action?
An interesting case came up in my research of the DOMA ruling that lays the groundwork for the nullification of all forms of racial preferences.

I want to be a league Substitute Please
Hi! I have been here at WebDiplomacy since the start of the year. Have played a lot of fun games and have been doing OK. Someone suggested that league games were a lot more strategic and the "done thing" was to sign up via the forums. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Joel.

Kids teased in schools
So in Holland, as in all other countries, there are kids teased in schools. The government has gone through great lengths to "protect them", a dangerous development if you ask me.

ALBERTA
Just out of curiousity, did the flooding register on American media?
Obviously horrible things happened out there. However, it seems to have been handled extremely well by the people charged with governance. And it was a good moment for a Canadian to mayor to get some media coverage for being great as opposed to being a criminal (Montreal) or a crackhead (Toronto).
2ndWhiteLine (2606 D(B))

Yeah, it got a few mentions. ESPN had a Sportscenter segment when the Saddledome flooded.

Flooding in India did.

The daily oil spills in Alberta for the last 30-some years don't get any media coverage either.
It got some attention on the online sites I visit, yeah

Saw reports here in local Colorado news about the Alberta floods. The India floorings got coverage on bbc.

What the fuck are you talking about bo? They had one over the weekend, but they don't have them daily and Alberta lives and dies by the oil it has. They deal with it and move on. It has made a lot of Albertans (especially Calgarians) quite wealthy. When I was in Calgary, I saw more cars that were way nicer than my C-class (I mean *way* nicer) than I saw when I was in LA and NYC.

I guess you didn't read this part.

"The number of oil spills, leaks and other unintentional releases by the oil and gas industry have been on the decline for the past decade, according to the ERCB."

Seems to me the problem is being corrected by the Canadians.

Another quote from one of the related articles linked to in your story...

"Authorities point to a much more encouraging statistic: There were 1.5 incidents per 1000 kilometres of pipeline in 2011, and that figure’s been dropping for the past three years. "

Again, sounds like Canada is getting it under control.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

If any little bit of oil leaks, it is not under control. And really Draug, I hope you're not taking this information lightly. It is flat out shocking to know that this happens in our neighbors' backyards and could happen soon in our backyards if this industry expands the way it intends without checks.

And yes, the ERCB has been great; I hope they keep it up.

You should see out nuclear record. And that is a much scarier substance than anything that travels through a pipeline.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
28 Jun 13 UTC
Really, we don't need to fight here between nuclear waste spills and bitumen oil spills. Let's just say they are both incredibly bad, shall we?

Well, we've been on repeated floodwatch here in Fredericksburg, and we ain't got no media coverage either. I don't know where Alberta is with your fancy cars, but here in the civilized world, we almost had the Rappahannock flood to fifteen feet! We did hear about them Injuns, though...

I hope all is OK both now and in the coming days for you KA. I may pick on you on occasion, but I would never wish a disaster befall anyone here at WebDip or over at VDip.

Seriously, the United States has gotten the finger from two tiny, hardly important nations in our typical affairs in the past week... this is awesome. All over one guy.

interest in a 17 player world gunboat tourney?
I was thinking anywhere from 5-8 games depending on the interest. 5 pts. 24 hour turns.

If interested, please pm me, and I can set up a tournament. This seems to be the only way to get rid of metas....

I have two questions to ask.
1. If I don't like a player and don't want to pause the game per that person's request, can the Mod pauses the game for that person?

2. If a person does not want to work and I don't want to give the person's my spare changes, can the government tax me then give the other person some welfare?
