Just curious, when I'm at the "Home" page, some of the games I'm in have stars next to them like the stars that show up in threads you have posted in. What are these stars symbolizing?

The "Oh, Come On, It Wasn't THAT Bad," Screen and Stage Countdown
We've all seen it ...that disease known only as "fanboyitis" (or, since I suppose our diseases have to be politically correct nowadays, it's sister disease that's toally equal and in no way lesser than fanboyitis, fangirlitis.) A movie, play, book, or or show comes out- and it's great. The sequels come out- "Oh my God, those evil demons ruined EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING!!!" So sound off on The "Oh, Come On, It Wasn't THAT Bad" books, shows, films, and, yes, plays.

@diplomat - maicon's was a lucky mistake, and i'd be hard pressed to believe him if he ever said otherwise. it was a good strike, but i think it was meant to be a cross.

@figles - you have to admit it was extremely well hit, and perhaps the keeper could have done better, but his body was moving the opposite way of the ball and his hands were completely behind his body, so it would have been one hell of a display of hand strength if he did anything else with it. however, i might have to retract my claim on sneijder's goal and give goal of the tournament thus far to landon donovan. roofs it from the edge of the six at a zero angle, and it cannot be overstated how important that goal was in that game. but sneijder's was still awesome

Naw, the goal of the tournament was the only one that wasn't a goal, but was, scored by Maurice Edu. hehe

Maicon shot to goal.

20 Jun 10 UTC
wow, i can't say i've ever seen that other goal before, so you could definitely be right
i will still think he didn't completely mean to do it, although that one you posted was clearly an attempt on goal, so it could very well be a shot he favors

@figles - it was a fantastic strike and from a zero angle, i just feel donovans might have been better. maicon slipped it in behind an out of position keeper while donovan said screw it and roofed it past the keeper's face. thats something you see more in ice hockey than in football. that being said, both were fantastic goals, though nobody comes close to zero angle goal of all time....

Even Brazilians are split on whether Maicon meant it or not. We will probably never know for sure.

Donovan's goal was good but the keeper ducked, otherwise it would not have gone in.

We are not seeing too many goals from distance but lots of shots over the bar. I think players are struggling with the ball.

Terrible job from the Referee in Brasil - Ivory Coast match.
Illegal goal by Fabiano.
Almost no cards for thne Ivory coast agressive players.
Kaka sent off...wrong decison imo. At least that's good news for Portugal :D
diplomat61 (223 D)

Kaka deliberately raised his elbow into Kaita which I think was a yellow card offence. However Kaita a rotten cheat for holding his face. Reminds me of Lucio's play acting earlier in the game.
Chrispminis (916 D)
20 Jun 10 UTC
I don't know. Looking at the replay for Kaka's second yellow card, he was just standing there, and it didn't even look like he saw Kaita coming.
diplomat61 (223 D)
20 Jun 10 UTC
Then why bend his arm like that?
Octavious (2701 D)
20 Jun 10 UTC
If I had an Ivorian... Ivory Coastian... big West African chap running at me I'd raise my arm too. Kaka did nothing that should have earned himself a card from what I saw. And what i saw was a hell of a lot more than what the ref saw as he was looking the other way!

Still... no complaints. I won £30 because of that result :D. Bloody entertaining too!
dave bishop (4694 D)
20 Jun 10 UTC
I think he might have seen someone running for him out of the corner of his eye and lifted up his arm in self defense- i.e. to avoid getting hit. Kaita ran straight into him, and from his reaction clearly intended to be hit.
They should lift Kaka's ban and impose a harsh punishment on Kaita. If they don't, it will encourage more cheating in the future.
Troodonte (3379 D)
20 Jun 10 UTC

Referee's are usually reprimended and even penalised by FIFA, but a decision made in the court is never overturned.

The ref from USA - SLV won't be at another match this World Cup.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
20 Jun 10 UTC
How on earth was that intentional from Kaka - doesn't even *LOOK* at the man!
Worse still, even if it was a foul, on what authority does the ref give it? He was looking the other way, so didn't see a thing, and didn't consult his linesman at all. Terrible decision
DJEcc24 (246 D)

Assuming FIFA are sensible enough not to suspend him
diplomat61 (223 D)
21 Jun 10 UTC
How often do you bring your hand up to your shoulder so that your elbow sticks out? What an unlucky chance that a big Ivorian player's chest happens to be therewhen you do. Especially one who fouled you earlier on. Kaka saw him coming and saw a chance for "extras".

I accept that the ref could not have seen it but the linesman could and remember that they are miked up.

I do not condone what Kaita did and he may yet be punished. There was an incident at a previous WC when a player pretended to be hit in the face and ended up with a retrospective ban.

Pete U (293 D)
21 Jun 10 UTC
For consistency, FIFA should fine Kaita. Anyone remember Rivalso in Japan/Korea vs Turkey - ball hit him on the thigh and he went down clutching his face and got a Turkish player sent off. He got fined, and the red stood.

Anything else is blatent hypocrisy from FIFA.
von Möricke (0 DX)

I saw the "foul" from Kaka and i hate those actors like the ivorian player, he should be ashamed.
diplomat61 (223 D)
21 Jun 10 UTC
@Pete U: thanks, the Rivaldo incident is the one that I was refering to. I agree that Kaita deserves some punishment.

@von Moricke: and so should all the other players, including Brazilians, for their play acting during that game.

I would love to see some proper post match review of unfair play, like happens in rugby in Australia, when cheats get proper punishment. FIFA needs to grow up and bring in technology for major games. Their position that you must have the same rules/facilities at all levels of the game is daft, when did you last see a park game with microphones or four officials?
Mr Pidge (243 D)
21 Jun 10 UTC
@Diplomat61
Kaka did not stick his elbow out, he simply lifted his arm. He did not move towards Kaita at all. That is a normal thing to do and a natural reaction in my opinion, especially when your team has a throw in or is in possession. Kaita was looking for that and already knew he was on a yellow. Maybe he was told to do it....
