Pause error?
Two of my games just spontaneously went into pause without any of the players voting "pause". Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a bug?

MAD MARX GUNBOAT CHALLENGE
MadMarx is, without argument, the best player on this site. He claims to be bored, though, with his regular rotation of classic Diplomacy games. So why not try something new? I challenge you, MM, to a single game of gunboat with some of the top gunboaters on this site. You can have final approval over pot size, phase length, and the other players in the game. What do you say?

China, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador--Snowden's Idea of a "Free State?"
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/snowden-washington-reaction-182004272.html "The freedom trail is not exactly China-Russia-Cuba-Venezuela" I have to agree...explain to me again how this guy's a symbol for freedom again (and again, do so WITHOUT saying "Well, the NSA was wrong--" YES. YES IT WAS. That does NOT mean this guy's good...really? Why pick those states, if he couldn't stand what the NSA was doing...they're not exactly Paradises of Government Transparency either...)

I want to be a league Substitute Please
Hi! I have been here at WebDiplomacy since the start of the year. Have played a lot of fun games and have been doing OK. Someone suggested that league games were a lot more strategic and the "done thing" was to sign up via the forums. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I have two questions to ask.
1. If I don't like a player and don't want to pause the game per that person's request, can the Mod pauses the game for that person?

2. If a person does not want to work and I don't want to give the person's my spare changes, can the government tax me then give the other person some welfare?

I not only have to offer some time to my game here, I have to make a visit on the MeepMeep thread too.
Some comments from the wolfpack are more pertinent than others.
Let me give a picture as a comment to a pertinent aspect.
If I run the three stairs up to my apartment using my last resources of energy arriving all exhausted I'll go "Wow! Ain't I a killer? I made a superhuman effort and darted up those stairs. I'd like to see who could repeat that!"
Someone who performs that same thing without effort as an everyday thing won't even think of it as he did anything special. If someone comments on it he'll just answer "uh-huh? Yeah, why? I live on the third floor and there's no elevator..."

I'm bloody dang impressed with MeepMeep's answers here on this thread but I guess he is hardly more than half my age.
Some of you others here I think are my age and more.
Some social prudence is the mark of the more experienced human being, but so is an abatement of the raw energy power and a certain generosity that goes with it.
Sadly normal is an ulcerous growth of grumbeling gudgery, sourfaced illiberality.

Mendax is "liar" in Latin... Well, I don't always do honour to my username either...
Let's believe he is the best chess player on this site. Why would he not be?
No... I don't want to spin out that quarrel...

How about returning to the OP? It really interests me.
MeepMeep seems to equate "to work" with "getting payed".
Is this your meaning MeepMeep?

I have just muted the dog named MajorMitchell. You guys know me well now, I am not afraid to use the mute button.

Now, whether believing mendax to be the best chess player on this site is irrelevant to me. But he challenged me for a chess game then his true rating must be proven or I will not take a challenge from a no name. After all, he is just a no name on the internet, and he did not even capitalize his 'mendax' name.

About my original post, I don't equate work with pay. Quite often we do work for no pay but joy. Think of helping out a friend, do charity work, or give a full body massage to your lady friends. (Oh well, I might be tough and cruel to other guys, but I assure you, I have slow hands and am a lady man. Women just go nuts on me. In fact, even the mothers went nuts after me too after they tried to get me to marry off their daughters.)

What I am upset was the inherent nature of people impose their will on others, such as tax, or enforce some law/judgement on others.

Case 1, Mapu violated my right to play game unpause. Think common sense, what's the point of a vote when you don't want to vote? I was not making any deal, or gain from my vote. I simply did not want to vote pause.

Case 2. I want my tax money to go for things which benefit me. So, if I pay tax for military or police, then I get protection. For those who does not want to work, I don't want to pay tax to support them. If they turn criminal, I say, get the police and military to deal against them. Put out the harshest punishment against the criminals. Eventually you will have less criminals. Just keep increasing the harshness, like a feed back loop. Don't repent? Increase the negative feed back. Crush them. It worked for me on the street. I brutalized any kids who attacked me. Eventually they stopped.
MeepMeep (100 D)
17 Jun 13 UTC
Some of you prefer to feed those lazy bums to prevent them from turning criminals. Ok fine, you want to take the easy way out. I prefer to fight. I don't want to pay for them, I enjoy fighting. It's my right to chose. Maybe I am foolish but it's my right.

So, if you don't want them to turn criminal, then go ahead and pay extra tax or build charity centers for those bums. But do not take my money. Let me fight the criminal to save myself some tax.

"I brutalized any kids who attacked me"
This is what I want to happen .... forget democracy, accountability, civil liberties, they are for dogs and spastics and retards
Let us have a Law that brutalises children who attack people like MeepMeep (for that is his real name, he's not hiding, he doesn't need to, he's not scared of nothin').
Let's see what feedback we get then, a bit similar to what is happening in Turkey at the moment.
The young people attack just because we want to bulldoze their park and stick up a shopping centre, simple answer, brutalise them, get some feedback, if they don't do as told brutalise them some more. When enough are dead or seriously injured I think we will see some 'street justice'.
This is a perfect solution for a high class performer like Mr Meep. They must have been some foster parents, let me guess, Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun or was it Myra Hindley and Ian Brady.
Julien (2065 D)

Well, MeepMeep if you want a game of chess, I am still here.
I am just curious about the need to formally identify the potential opponent and verify his level, as if he is of inferior skill, you should be able to crush him quite easily.
We can play on ICC or playchess. We can refine the details of our chess appointment via PM if you are interested.
I value the things you are saying, as there are quite a few interesting points in what you are saying (whether one may agree or not with you) but there is a degree of boasting that makes me curious. Usually truly strong people do not boast.
I am also quite a decent tennis and squash player but I think such a challenge would prove harder to set up, right? ;)

MeepMeep - You've said you've muted me, but for clarity's sake I do not believe I'm the best player on this site. I just think I'm better than you.
MeepMeep (100 D)
17 Jun 13 UTC
I am very bad in sport, in fact when I played tennis, I tended to hit too hard and overshoot. You see, when you punch an opponent, you punch really hard. Thus my fighting back ground kinda ruin my sport.

If I am such a show off, why don't I immediately demonstrate/prove my ability on the forum? But noooo, I am holding if off to make the dogs mad. If I keep holding it off, I might not even bother to demonstrate or prove it. It's ok you guys don't believe I have such ability. It's more important to me to make the dogs mad, not about showing off my talents. Get it?

Years go, I was in this single club full of young yuppies. One time this one guy bragged about his Chi Gong power and challenged me to punch his stomach with full force. I checked out his stomach and it was indeed incredibly firm. But I surrendered to him and did not even bother to try. The girls went wild and wanted to see the clash of the titans. But I would not punch. So, up till today, no one would ever know what would happen if I decided to punch. There was a risk I might damage his internal organs, such risk forbade me to take the punch over some silly ego.

Remember, I studied philosophy at age 11. I started fist fight at age 7 so I do know a lot of things in advance. My maturity is always at least 10 to 20 years ahead of typical ignorant bozos like you guys on this forum.

ha ha chess can be lethal: once I played a guy who looked a bit odd based on his manners. He happened to lose the game, and then threw all pieces over the board on the floor and left the playing room. Other guys told me "don't pay attention, he is a bit nuts but not a bad guy". Well chess can be dangerous, you see? ;)

I got kicked really hard when playing chess once. I was bleeding and all. I was losing though, and I won because my opponent kicked me :)

And then there was the time someone accidently hit our car while I was playing chess...

Ooh, and then the time someone threw a pen at someone behind me because the guy behind me scared my opponent, and my opponent freaked out... I won that one too lol.

I stopped playing chess, I'm thinking about street running in Kandahar now. Much safer.

You do not understand sophisticated economics, you cork brained pantomine clown !!!

Wht do you think it costs to keep persons incarcerated in jails, maintain all those extra Law enforcement Officers & run a Judicial system.
I make no claim(s) that you will turn ALL those less fortunate citizens into productive workers,
but it's actually CHEAPER to the Taxpayer over the long term to INVEST in effective free public education, effective Rehabilitation for criminals, and effective support services for the disabled & disadvantaged.

You seem to think that the community (& land, all the environment ) exists to serve YOU
You are definitely a cork brained SELFISH pantomine clown,
YOU exist to serve your fellow humans and the world in which you exist as well as yourself and your family
