By NMRing (not entering orders) for two consecutive seasons. It is generally frowned-upon though.

Just an idea. How about a 'Concede' button, whereby a player concedes, registering an instant 'Defeated' on the board. This would save the other players from having to wait for 2 NMRs, both annoying and time-consuming.
For this concession, the conceding player would register a defeat rather than a resign in the stats. Any thoughts.

The end result would be the same with the 'concede' button as with just CDing. It would encourage players to quit rather than play out the game. Either way, the board loses a player and the competitive balance is still thrown off. Besides, it's not the time wasting that bothers people, it's the fact that one player leaves the game to begin with.

If they're going to quit, they're going to quit. This way at least it would be swift and perhaps give someone else a chance to pick up the position before it got too disastrous, which is usually the case during 2 NMRs.

With a concede button, it's the same end but different means. Most CDs occur in live games anyway, which rarely find a replacement.

The point is to get players to *not* quit, not present them with an easier means of doing so.

I understand what you're saying. Having the button staring them in the face might encourage them. However, I seem to have seen too many CDs in non-live games which really screw things up.
Maybe the 'Concede' option could be used in non-live games only? Live games wouldn't have that option. Possible?

Ok, I concede the point. It was just an idea, as I said at the start.

the best solution would be a "transfer" buton,a player wants to quit the game but not ruin for the rest so when the player presses the buton the nation will be listed in a transfer page where all the rest of the players can see and take the nation for themselfs .like a stokmarket or sell and buy.in this case give away and buy.

I've seen a bunch of CDs in non live games of late. And it throws the balance. Then, by the time someone picks it up, the country is toast.
Not sure of the players' motives tho? Do they get caught up in real life? Do they get bored of online gaming? Neither of those people will return to hit the button, will they?

lately i am eating alot of shit in non live games where important powers(in good position) quit,if it was only one it is understandible but when half of the board leaves the game and you got stuck with some dickhead who only cares about points and is in a good position for solo,it makes you want to quit too.
the problem is not going to be solved ,the best way i see is to join them,understand the problem and find a solution.
as i see the problem(except when is a multi)many ppl register and dont like the game or the site enougth to stay and conect everyday.
there is a strong core of players who stay and others who dont,maybe two diferent leagues or divide them by rank,or the sell your country idea.

It usually seems to happen after a minor setback, in my limited experience. If the player was given the option of hitting a "Replace' button, it would give them the chance to bow out responsibly, rather than going off in the huff, allowing another to take over the reins before the country is toasted and the game is skewed/screwed.

Guess it depends on how hard it is to code?

@taos: The dickheads are just taking advantage of the vacuum. What would you expect? Wouldn't you do the same?
I think that's the problem we're trying to solve here.

Could we just shorten the time until you could replace? One movement phase?
