Help! Tips on Starting?
Tomorrow at school we are playing diplomacy as a class(not webdiplomacy, actual diplomacy) and everyone thinks that because I play webdiplomacy, that I am a big threat. Although I have made alliances, I do not know who will actually live up to that and I'm afraid that if I get targeted by everyone, I will lose and then I'll get a C for the grade. I'm playing as Austria-Hungry so does anyone have any tips on how I should start out?

To er "celebrate" the fact I've suddenly got lots of spare time after having my business wiped out by an earthquake for the second time in 6 months I've started a new game. It's 101 point buy in and anon. The location is:

Why is the game not progressing?
I am in a game, and all the players show up with the green 'ready' tick, but the deadline ticker is still counting down. Is this normal?

Anyone Need A Tutor? (Or Know Someone That Does? Or A Good Tutoring Site?)
I don't want to, but as the only thing I can do REALLY well is literature and theatre and philosophy and all that jazz, I'm trying to get a tutoring job now, along with applying to all the regular places, retail and restaurants and all that...trying to find some folks in my school, but I need to get going, and I could care less if it's online, if that be the preference...so does anyone know someone who needs an English tutor, or else know a site that's hiring (or anything?)

1. You need to email the mods to get their attention, not post on the forum.

2. What are the mods supposed to be looking at here?
Anme (147 D)
28 Feb 11 UTC
He already made a thread about this. The mods didn't find anything wrong with the game.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)

Ugh, so he did. Bad show, terry32smith. In future please don't post cheating accusations on the forum, and really, seriously, do NOT spam the forum by posting multiple threads about the same complaint.

seriously terry32smith this is getting ridiculous... as I say previously:

The english offer a dmz and an alliance on the first turn, but it made the mistake of putting in on the public press. The german freaked out and immediately accused us of metagaming.
I think it convinced everyone to attack us and the italian threw itself at me. so ofcourse after that England and I ended up ally.
I was happy with my landing in Tuscany in spring 1904..to break the italian stalemate
I would have been happy to draw with Austria but his public cheating accusation were not nice ! and england was not keen.
now I would appreciate if you could stop posting your accusation. it is not the third forum you create.

Sargmacher,anme ,Jamiet99 and president I aprreciate your support !
Terry I'm waiting for your apology !

Actually my comment was more sarcastic than anything else. I thought the '-1' thing was funny and a bit silly really.

Posting the same comment in a second thread is ridiculous though, especially if you have already been told the case is closed.

Perhaps the start time was too far in the future and people forgot so the two were the only ones to show up at the appointed time?
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
01 Mar 11 UTC
Yeah, I was one of those two who actually showed up. I thought a live world game would be awesome, even if I didn't expect everyone to show up. I didn't expect 15 players not to show up... So we just voted draw.

TBH i laughed when i saw that game.
Maniac (189 D(B))
01 Mar 11 UTC
in fairness to terry32smith many of his resigns are because he plays 5 and 10 minute games. Sometimes they can drag on for hours and hours and if he had to go to bed or something ....
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
01 Mar 11 UTC
Tough shit. He shouldn't join live games if he doesn't have the time to play them through!

Having to quit earlier than expected is fine for a few CDs, but not a quarter of all your games. No he is just a quitter and ruins games for others. He is on my blacklist.

I played a live game last night where 1-center Germany played for a good hour after it was clear that the Juggernaught was unstoppable and he was not in any position to be a part of a draw. He came back, every turn, to put in his order to hold Liverpool after Italy and France both left. Now that's what I call a respectable player.

Maniac (189 D(B))
01 Mar 11 UTC
@trip - no I was just pointing out that we don't know terry's situation, he may be 12 or something and it's hard for twelve year olds to continue a game if their mum says it's bedtime. Or he could be someone with a life, and gives up diplomacy if someone offers to take him to the pub, or he could be a surgen who plays whilst waiting for a kidney to be delivered but then gives up on diplomacy to save a poor child's life....etc...etc....Terry could be a hero and you guys are roasting him alive.
trip (696 D(B))
01 Mar 11 UTC
he can't be 12 if he's been playing since '79.
Draugnar (0 DX)
01 Mar 11 UTC
@Maniac - In *every* one of those circumstances, he shouldn't be playing live games.
trip (696 D(B))
01 Mar 11 UTC
@ maniac: you don't know his situation either. i have a life, yet i've managed to not cd (except for one game, even though it doesn't show on my record). also, that 42 doesn't include games that were cancelled because he quit, or games where he quit but was defeated before going cd. i won't waste my time checking his profile for the latter, but i'd be willing to bet there are more than a few occasions where that's happened.

how many games must one ruin, for any reason, before they decide that they don't have time to play? i'd like to think less than 42.

Statistics of Winning Nations from all Finished Games
Because I don't know all hidden places on this website -took ages until I found the rankinglist- I just want to know:
Are there statistics of winning nations from all finished games? It would be really interested to look into, maybe filtered by gunboat, normal, etc.

Do points = Clout?
Just a topic i was curious about. Since my return here to the site it seems that since i have over 100 D that my allies are more easily won by show of total games played/won/return on investment rather than the actual diplomacy aspect. I know that we are a easily persuaded race but what are your thoughts on the matter?

Clock problems...
Hi guys, I don't know how it happened, but my clock somehow got delayed. I mean, in the game window, you see a timer before the next phase. Well... mine is 5 minutes BEFORE the real time. It's pretty annoying for the live games...

Newbie question on Ready and players who aren't there
I am in my first game, and we have a player who signed up but is not making any orders. So every time we all hit Ready we have to wait fot the full time. Is there a way to get rid of the player so we can go more quickly? And why do people sign up if they do not want to play?

Sorry if this is a silly question - I also could not find a way to search the forum to see if someone else had posted on the same thing. Is there a way I can do that?

Shameless, hopeless bragging.
So I know it's not really special, but I just played my first successful juggernaught (i.e., lasts longer than 1901) and what's more, it was in a gunboat. Those of you who have played against me know I am pretty average - and you can see that from this game, too - but I'm happy with this and had to let my pride out somewhere. gameID=51955 :)

This Time On Philosophy Weekly: The Root Of All Action (Evil? Obi Has A Theory!)
Well, I didn't want to do three faith/religion-centric Philosophy threads in a row, for those who are tired of it, take this one any way you want--is there a root of all human action, and if so, what is it, and what does this mean for ethics and morality in general? Is there a universal root, and thus a universal morality? Well, I don't know about MORALITY, but I DO ahve an idea as to the root...perhaps not an original idea, but anyway...

Convey through Balaeres in Ancient Med?
From http://www.variantbank.org/results/rules/a/ancient_med.htm (the supposedly official variant site): "Since Baleares consists mostly of water, it is considered a sea space for the purposes of convoys, therefore a fleet occupying Baleares may be used to convoy an army using the normal convoy rules." However, in a game that I am currently playing, it appears that despite the presence of a bordering coastal army, I cannot order a convoy through Balaeres?
