admin? Could you fix this
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=16546#gamePanel

Sorry to bother you, but this game booted us so that Italy won and both me and Docvanhellsing resigned... Italy had it in the bag, so I'm not asking for a draw, but could you give me and Doc a survive as I feel that resigns on records don't give you a good reputation ^-^

Binding Diplomacy/ no stabs
Has anyone ever played a version of diplomacy wherein you cannot break an agreement made? Your agreements may be as vague or deceptive as you like, but once it's made and its terms have been laid out any agreement can not be broken. This is how I prefer to play the game, even when those around me are not. Thoughts?

something Fishy
I'm not a sore loser but in game #16478.Italy had a chance to solo but held off to help Russia.I just want somebody to check the players in question and see how many other games they have been in together.
I find it against the spirit of the game to join with a friend and help them no matter what else is going on just to gain points off of honest players.

Those who...
would never get angry at another player who is playing reasonably well...

are more annoyed when someone has a good opportunity and doesn't stab them than if they do...

always talk to everyone, whether a current ally or enemy, before, during, and after the stab...

are open to and enjoy complex diplomatic arrangements (for example “give me some centers so I can stab my ally without worrying about you getting a solo” thus reducing the number of players in the draw)...

like to walk away from a game having thoroughly enjoyed it, and on good terms with all the other players...

trade messages after games analyzing important strategic and tactical decisions, and conjecturing how the game would have played out, learning from your mistakes and the other players skills...

play almost exclusively WTA...

and are seeking to play with kindred spirits should join us.

Please PM me or post here for the password.
While skill is not the determining factor, this will be mostly very good players (top 250) or newer players who have shown themselves capable at level with these. So if you haven't won games at that level, this probably isn't the game for you.
I look forward to playing with you all.

@TilMletokill - there are no enemies in this game, just other players who want to change your colour to their colour.

lifein2x3 (168 D)

Maniac: if you don't, it sounds like you've got more interesting games to play. :)
Ursa (1617 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
I would qualify except two points:

1. I'm too busy to play a good game.

2. I still don't understand what's so much better about WTA. Can someone explain why all the top-250 should prefer WTA?
dave bishop (4694 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
Its better... prevents unbeatable alliances from occurring and encourages intelligent play... i.e for the win or the draw... not playing for a survive.
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
02 Dec 09 UTC
I am interested and think I qualify.
But I would like if the game don´t start on the weekend (I don´t have much time on weekends).
Ursa (1617 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
@ dave bishop:

"prevents unbeatable alliances from occuring"

> In the danger of being completely stupid, what would prevent 'unbeatable alliances' from occuring? BTW, do you mean any in-game formation or game-long alliances? Because I think the last one should not exist in diplomacy, either PPSC or WTA.

"encourages intelligent play... i.e for the win or the draw"

> What 'intelligent' play is is perhaps another discussion. My expierence however is that WTA games on this site tend to 'work' in the direction of a draw, for everyone is afraid the chip leader will try to solo. This way it's really hard to diplome your way into a win.

> "not playing for a survive"

At some point this is ofcourse better. Although in PPSC it adds an element of chaos to a game, in which winning is more interesting. Like I said before, in WTA everyone is constantly monitoring everybody's center growth...
BoG75 (6816 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
I am still waiting for the password.

@Ursa - I like WTA because it promotes shifting alliances during the game. If played with people who are willing to check their ego at the door and accept a stab and work towards a counter stab.
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
02 Dec 09 UTC
Agree with BoG75. WTA normally makes everybody more prone to change alliance to not let someone win and thus make the game more dinamic.
But if you got good players on it (players that don´t take a stab as a pesonal issue and don´t value only points but the fun of game itself) a PPSC can be as good as WTA.

dave bishop (4694 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
@Ursa
I meant it prevented game long alliances from occurring as 2 way draws are very dangerous to negotiate and neither country in the alliance will let the other win.
I think preventing these game long alliances is good.
Alliances become more fluid, and the game becomes more interesting and unpredictable

I agree that it is harder to win WTA, and think it is a good thing. You should have to work for a win, and to win should mean to beat everyone else in the game, not just those who aren't your allies.
Don Corleone (277 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
Hello all,
As it stands, the first game is full, and there 3-5 more players who have expressed interest in joining (the latter includes BoG75 and rdrivera2005). Therefore I will be creating a second game with similar specs.

rdrivera, are you alright playing on weekends, as long as it doesn't start on a weekend? If so, we can schedule the second game to start next Monday.

lifein2x3, why don't you accumulate some more points first. I'm hoping these games will go well, and more of the same style will be played later.

Maniac... I can't really tell if you're asking to join... :)

Ursa, I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I didn't mean to imply that all top players should prefer WTA, just that those players who join this game should.

Ursa and dave, the relative merits of WTA and PPSC have been discussed at great length, and will continue to be. While I think it's an interesting discussion to have, I would prefer it if it did not hijack this thread. You're more than welcome to start a new thread if you have more to add.

We're still looking for at least a few more players, and if there are more than that, I'd be happy to organize another game. Thank you all for your interest.

@Don Corleone - Would you make 2nd one Annonymous?
Don Corleone (277 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
May I ask why?
BoG75 (6816 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
I find that people use status and past exeprience as tools in a game. When the game is annonymous that is leveling the playing field. I dont mind posting all 7 players in the game on the forum and let people discover who is who but it does add a little bit more to the game IMO
Don Corleone (277 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
Okay, I'm alright with that. As long as no one has objections, I'll make the second one anonymous.
I'll definitely have to post the names of the players, to avoid giving myself that advantage, as well as to even it between those players who have posted on the forum and those who have PM'd me.
StevenC. (1047 D(B))
02 Dec 09 UTC
I might want to join if it is not anonymous. But do I qualify? : )

@Don Corleone: I'm getting there, it's just going to take awhile. I just started a game to try to get some friends of mine involved; hopefully I can find enough of them who are interested.

I do like the idea of this game and will be following it. IMO, this is what Diplomacy should be about.
Don Corleone (277 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
Steven, you'd be at the low end of spectrum in terms of standings, but if you think you fit the description in terms type of player, you're welcome to join.
But you wouldn't join an anonymous?
Don Corleone (277 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
Glad you agree lifein2x3, I hope to look forward to future games together.
Geofram (130 D(B))
02 Dec 09 UTC
I'm almost disappointed that our game is not anonymous.
Don Corleone (277 D)
02 Dec 09 UTC
Well, if you'd like to switch, StevenC. could have your spot in that game.
