A Public Announcement
Dear Feckless Clod,

As promised, here is a formal statement regarding your game "Grab Your Partners" (not sure if innuendo is was intended). The game has ended in a crushing landslide victory by the solo kid, Harry Noballs.

Best Wishes,

I posted this in the Rank system vote thread, but I think it will get looked over, so I've copy and pasted it below. If we can implement an ELO system without having to eliminate the point system, this is what it might look like...

I need a favour from someone in the UK
My company is setting up operations in Britain. I've secured two freephone (toll free) numbers and need to test that they are working right, but a test can only be effected from within the UK and I know of no one who can do this for me.

If you're in the UK and are willing to telephone two freephone numbers for me, just to verify that they ring through properly, I would be most appreciative.

Drop me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll provide you this the freephone numbers.

And thanks. Yaniv

*and yes i took the time to line that^^^ up
anyways....

Since i have always wondered what makes people think that something either has a 100% chance of being possible and shuns all those who dont think likewise or that something is completely impossible and cant believe that anyone in their right mind could believe something so far-fetched, I have a good one.

And please be the grown-ups you all are so pull up you huggies and make this thread fun.

My question is....

Aliens? A God? or Evolution?
Which one brought life to Earth?

and what percent would you allot each option in the category of possibility.
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
My guess would be
Aliens...14%
A God...44%
Evolution...41%
All the Above...1%
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
haha i didnt realize that that was all 1's and 4's
philcore (317 D(S))
04 Sep 08 UTC
these arent mutually exlusive - God might have gotten the ball rolling creating the first single celled organisms, then evilution could have taken over
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
hence the 1%
philcore (317 D(S))
04 Sep 08 UTC
for that matter - I think I'll go with God created Aliens, who then brought the first organisms to earth, which then evoled into all of the life forms we've grown so fond of eating
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
and phil...i said dont make this a debate
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
fine...so avoiding loop holes that may be present please answer the question again
valoishapsburg (314 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
well, I have an easy answer to that one. And this could be possible and not just sarcasm. Personally dont believe in sophisticated life-forms that are human like outside of earth, but it is possible.

Possibly God created a mechanism with which to create life. Or A god i should say. All religions believe they are right anyhow. But by setting up this system and process by which to create life, creatures from another world evolved and developed a way in which to come to our primitive planet and possible carried various microlife-forms which thrived and evolved on our planet, or brought other organism with which to populate the seas and land

JUST ANSWER THE FREAKIN QUESTION
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
your words are to be in the numbers that you provide not in words themselves
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
for example
i said
14%
44%
41%
1%
1) which means i highly doubt that there are aliens
2) basically its almost i tie between creation and evolution with creation having a slight edge
3) there is a very slim if non-existent possibility that a God and evolution tag-teamed Earth
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
WHY do you people make things so difficult.
dont over-analyze this just answer the question and let you numbers tell your side of the arguement.

i dont want words bc words are what derail a thread
Archonix (246 D)

Isn't this in nature a partly religious debate? If you bring in what schools should be allowed to educate you make it political too :P

I believe that first there was the big bang, the point when nothingness became something. Then, billions of years later (4.54 billion years ago) the earth was formed one way or another. 3.5 billion years after that the first life appeared and evolution took over.

I personally see the probability of a god existing in the first place as relatively low. Therefore I think that evolution is much more reasonable solution.

Many people who see evolution as the only way believe that its both archaic and ignorant of clear evidence to believe that the world was defined completely by God - in particular how it was stated in Genesis.

Christian fundamentalists see the bible as a historical document. Stating otherwise is a threat to their beliefs, unreasonable and 'wrong'.
Archonix (246 D)

What did you actually want from this thread? Don't people post on a forum in this context to state their views? You don't want people to explain them afterwards?
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
SEE!!!!
all phil had to do was be a ****(your explitive here) and bring up a loophole and the whole thread goes to hell.

just stop

and to completely contradict everything i just said...
by you guys doing what i didnt want you to do you got me talking about something that isnt connected to the thread at all and this is what i was trying to avoid

so if you people can try and make this work instead of being dicks about everything someone tries to do i think it would be fun
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
sorry on my part
ill be more clear

MY EXPECTATIONS:
1) label your %'s with either Aliens, A God, Evolution, or some combination of the three
2) dont add any words other than these
-Aliens
-Above
-A
-All
-Of
-God
-The
-Evolution
-And
-Both

3) Dont redicule others

and Archonix:
this wouldnt turn into a debate if people just kept it simple
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
Archonix
im guessing yours would be somewhere around
Aliens...2%
A God...3%
Evolution...95%
Combination...0%
Archonix (246 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
I don't see much value in this then - I personally wouldn't have bothered posting if I understood your point. I enter most of the discussions with the intention of participating in a debate.
valoishapsburg (314 D)

So sorry to disrupt!
God- 10%
Aliens- .05%
Evolution- 10%
A god and evolution- 79.95%
WhiteSammy (132 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
im not sure about you guys but to me those %'s say enough about Archonix's point of view with no need for words to explain himself.

also Archonix was i close?
Archonix (246 D)
04 Sep 08 UTC
Actually
Evolution 80%
God 15% (Depending on your definition of god really)
Aliens/Other 5%

That is a truly brilliant word and, if philcore doesn't object, I have a character in a story who could use that one. I'll give you the credit though...

Ingame solution for multi-account?
I am strongly suspicious that france and turkey are the same person in a game I am playing:
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5374

This is based on past game history and France trying to talk me down from attacking Turkey (its 1902). I'm Italy in this game and it makes sense for me to avoid fighting france but to follow through with my stab on turkey. Assuming they aren't kicked off (which they should be) or until then what am I expected to do? This throw the game into an unfortunate loop.

Skipped phase in "002b"?
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5460 That's the URL. I think the current phase should be Autumn 1902, but there's a chance that I'm horribly mistaken. It now lists the current phase as Spring 1903. Will somebody check on that and make sure I'm not crazy?

Support?
I know this has come up before, but here goes. I want to move a fleet in Constantinople to Bulgaria(sc) with support from the Black Sea. From what I've read in the forum in the past, this is a valid support. The game, however, does not give me the option to support a move to Bulgaria(sc); only Bulgaria and Bulgaria(nc). This is regarding a move that will be processed in 24 hours, so time is a factor for responses.

Possible bug in game 5406
In game #5406, 'the greatest game ever told', shouldn't Tyrolia's attack on Munich in Autumn of 1902 have cut Munich's attack on Burgundy? Maybe it's changed since I last played, or maybe I'm just crazy.

Could anyone shed some light on this?

I might disappear for a few days
I'm sure many people have heard of the civil unrest here in Thailand incited by the PAD. There have been rumours that some protesters may attempt to cut Bangkok's power - if that happens I lose my access to the internet until it gets restored.

There was a clash between Government supporters and PAD protesters this morning and there was a death. The military did state that they would get involved soon afterwards. I do believe that since the rumours are so widespread that the military would be able to prevent it but I don't know for certain.

Anyways, my fingers are crossed that everything will be sorted out.

Surrendering
I'm GMing my first Diplomacy game in a while at another site, and I've received a request from one of my players that I'm not sure how to handle. The player in question has the low supply center count and is in a very precarious situation (current season is Summer 1904), and has requested that he surrender his territories and units to another nation that he is allied with rather than have them fall into the hands of the nations that are attacking him.

I know this isn't in the scope of the official rules, so I'm curious to know if there's any precedent for allowing something like this or not. (My inclination is to allow it, but I'd appreciate some direction from people more knowledgeable than myself.) :-)

I was resetting someone's password when I screwed up a query, resetting everyone's password to the same thing. As luck would have it my local web server has screwed up thanks to an update which means I can't load the passwords from backup yet.

If you registered in the last few days unfortunately I don't have your password backed up, so you'll have to e-mail me at [email protected] so I can e-mail you a new password

Sorry for the inconvenience
