I'm pretty certain that this is meta-gaming...
While looking through the previous games of a player I found this game, http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3197.

If you look at it, all participants in the game besides the winner just happen to have only played that single game. Somehow I'm guessing that this isn't coincidence.

I set up a political/general discussion forum for phpDiplomacy players. It's entirely unofficial; feel free to join. Even pitirre will be allowed to participate. It's split between moderated and unmoderated forums.

If Kestas has a problem with the board, it might just disappear without notice. Beware.

I click on the log off button and it returns me to the same screen where I am still logged in. I don't want everyone to think I have been on here 24 hours a day recently. The problem is probably on my end, so I will just see if it goes away.

Game: Final Witness-Low Bet
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3313

This is a draw request on behalf of Germany, Russia, Turkey, and myself(as Austria). France Britain and Italy are controlled by a metagamer. For one, the accounts controlling France and Britain only play in games together, and form strong alliances, and never stab eachother. This in itself is not proof! However, on two separate occasions, those two players were caught with loggin times within ten minutes. What's more is that the metagamer created a new account to take over for Italy, who was in civil disorder! The last time I checked this new profile, It was in two games; the one I am talking about, and a game which was yet to start, and also included the accounts controlling France and Britain in the first game. If it can be proven that these players are metagamers, the rest of the players would like a draw between the remaining players, and if possible, the eliminated player, who controls Germany.

Double BUG
Dear Kestas, there have been two consecutive bugs in my games:

1) in " hidden team variant", I put in an order for MAO to Brest, but it moved me to North Africa.

2) In "the fall of Gondolin", I attempted to convoy an army from Ankara to Rumania- there was no resistance or anything, but the arrows on the screen show me moving to sevastopol and then bouncing with an imaginary unit.

I would appreciate it greatly if you could look into this. Thanks Kestas.

responding to my anti-USA goverment views.
I dont have anything agaisnt the US citizens but i sure have a problem with thier goverment. Not only of their illegal interventions in another countries which has ended in millions of lifes wasted ... but im from Puerto Rico and from more 100 years the US goverment has kept us in a colonial status and if that is not enough the US goverment has killed, experimented, persecution, abuse and torture many of puerto ricans in the island... sometimes for political reasons and sometimes because they just can.

I think many US citizens SHOULD participate more and be more educated on how their goverment behave... because if you dont care how irresponsible they act on your country that is your problem BUT the reality is that your goverment loves to intervene in other countries affairs, many dies and many times is for the most selfish reasons... and then you have the face to question why many countries on the world dislike your goverment and why bad things happen to you from time to time.
be more responsible because sadly the world suffers from your lack of political interest.

Thucydides (864 D(B))

Pelopennesian War is the spelling I think. I read a long book on that war and so it is subsquently fascinating to me. Hence my name.

Mostly though, military history is filled with exciting stuff. Like the Mongol attack on Africa at Egypt that got driven back by the Mamluks? Few people know about that, but, that's simply amazing. If the Mongols had won.... you'd have an East Asian army tramping around Africa. That's crazy-cool. Mongols in general actually are unbelievable.
Only three posts and an intelligent discussion becomes a flaming match.

I haven't gotten a chance to study any ancient history yet, only European and Canadian history, so I like post revolutionary France/Napoleonic wars and Bismark.

Stacks of books on MH at home and always picking up more... One of the best was a book by Peter Flemming - brother of the 007 guy... "Operation Sealion". The English is a dream to read.

Currently working through several Roman period works and Agincourt (balls to the dauphin).

I like the Vietnam War. Even though there are not to many battle per-say, I like the whole idea of uncoventional warfare. THe Vietcong against US Army Speical Forces and Navy SEALs. This conflicted transformed the US military from being an all conventional warfare force at te beginning to having unconventional forces at the end. Without this conflict the US Army wouldnot have its premiere fighting forces that it takes so much pride in, the Green Berets and the Rangers. The Navy started the SEAl program. I realise that some of these units were functioning before. People might say that the Rangers did exist, but they were disbanded, then brought back during Vietnam.

Overall I think that this conflict helped the US millitary change its overall stratedgy that it uses today. The US military is constantly evolving, right now into unconvelntional warfare fighters. This process started with Vietnam.

i find very interesting how the US goverment risk the lifes of their own people to have an excuse to go to war agaisnt spain when they exploded a battleship (the maine) in havana and then the US goverment blame spain when now is know it was the other way around.

nothing new, eh?

I like alot of the battles of the romans. one thing that specifically impressed me was when (?) built a bridge across the rhine in a very short amount of time, marched his army across for a few hours, then left and burnt the bridge.

just an amazing display of power.

Thucydides (864 D(B))

Pitirre, can I just point out a fact:

Spanish American War:
American Combat Deaths - 432
Total American Casualties - 3,289.

Hardly risking American lives, when more people in America died of starvation annually, especially back then. The Spanish-American War, while indeed unjustified, was a beating. But now you're just making me digress into the whole America debate that no one wants to have.

Pandora, I've heard of a similar practice by the Roman legions, building forts at their nightly campsite and in the morning tearing it down and taking it with them, only to rebuild it at the end of a day's march. Just incredible really.
pitirre (0 DX)
13 Apr 08 UTC
that is not the point thucydides, the fact is that the US goverment risk the lifes of their own people when they exploded the maine to have an excuse to go for war, im talking about the explotion in specific. and even when it was a BIG coincidence that nobody was in the ship (???) when it exploded it was a great risk.

it is very unfortunate that things are justified because of numbers and who wins... when we are talking about innocents lifes.
Pandora (100 D)
13 Apr 08 UTC
yes this was the strategy used by the legions to defend themselves in case of a night attack, but I am talking about one specific instance. building a bridge at the rhines widest point, in amazing time, just to march across and make a point then tear it down.
Raga (140 D)
13 Apr 08 UTC
"the US goverment risk the lifes of their own people when they exploded the maine to have an excuse to go for war"

~ The US didnt blow it up. And the Spanish didnt either. It was an ACCIDENT cause by the design of the ships of that era, in which the coal room was adjacent to the armory. There were a lot of people on the ship when it exploded. Sailors lost their lives when it exploded. It wasnt a conspiracy to go to war, it was just an accident that the media - not the government - used as an excuse to get the American public rallied up.

Now, pitirre, please, stop including anti-American propaganda in every single one of your posts. We get it, you dont like America. We dont need to hear it every time you speak and it doesnt need to become a debate in every single thread.

And if you are going to say stuff, at least make sure you have the facts right first.

-----------------------------------------

Now, back on topic....

Reading through Pandora's list, many of those battles interest me too. For example, D-Day. The coordination of all of those nations in one well planned attack is amazing to me. The success of it too, is just a great accomplishment and was one of the major turning points in the war for the allies.
Pandora (100 D)
13 Apr 08 UTC
yes. I heard that the german command delayed reinforcements because they didnt believe there could be that many troops at normandy lol

I think if I could ever watch any battle, it would be the roman attack on nubia. thats worth a movie right there lol

raga, u are incorrect. the US goverment was very interested in the caribbean. even after 2 years of this war the US goverment was planning in which way they will divide their interests once they took cuba, puerto rico and others. 2 years before the war they were planning it!!!

people died but not the important officers and that how far the US goverment goes to get the hands of things it doesnt belong to them.

by the way, do u think the media is so independent from the goverment? or dont u remember how the press tried to cover the irak invasion but they were mantain in a lobby eating nice lobster and when they covered the news it was only where the goverment and military took them.

yes, like cnn is the best information reliable we can get. oh yes!

read your history good because the maine was a well planified thing

If there were one I could watch it would be the Battle of Ain Jalut, the name of the battle between Mamluks and Mongols I mentioned above. Its so fascinating because it includes every big, bad, army that was around at the time. The European Crusaders, the rampaging Mongols, the Muslim caliphate. All you need is the Byzantines or the Roman Empire and you've got it all right there.

I love reading history books, but finding well written ones is always difficult. As long as you are naming your favorite battles, why not some books that would be a good place to start to learn about those battles.
I'm also fascinated with the Punic Wars Pandora! Imagine the logistical problems of taking an army including ellephants over the Alps. Then, after that, convince the Gauls to join you in your crusade against rome.

And how about that Battle of Cannae?
Hannibal 50,000 men
Rome 85,000 men
And Hannibal was able to inflict around 70,000 casualties while suffering only around 6,000.

"Never before, while the City itself was still safe, had there been such excitement and panic within its walls. I shall not attempt to describe it, nor will I weaken the reality by going into details… it was not wound upon wound but multiplied disaster that was now announced. For according to the reports two consular armies and two consuls were lost; there was no longer any Roman camp, any general, any single soldier in existence; Apulia, Samnium, almost the whole of Italy lay at Hannibal's feet. Certainly there is no other nation that would not have succumbed beneath such a weight of calamity" -Livy

Hannibal single-handedly brought Rome, arguably the most powerful empire the world has ever know, to its knees.

Global Warming
Is it for real? Is it a catastrophe? Or is it just another standard periodic warming of the Earth as happens every few hundred thousand years?

Can we do anything about it? Is there any point? Are all our individual efforts just tokenism? Is there really any prospect of the whole world (including China, India, Brazil) reducing emissions by the levels required to make a difference?
