I saw a dead bird on campus today
It made me pretty uncomfortable sitting on the bench near it. It was a red cardinal
I wonder why it died, and if marxism had something to do with it. I decided to sit inside instead and listen to some modest mouse.

So, It's been a while since I posted something about this, and I think that we should seriously discus it in depth. I haven't seen any proofs that would prove it, and all math that would and mathematiciancs that support it are obviously insane.

seriously though, I posted this to mess with you guys.

.9 repeating actually equals roughly three and a half.

the reason why we are able to make proofs of this, is because people are obsessed with fractions.

fractions are based off of our erroneous 10 digit system, and while decimals are too, they cause fewer problems

i can calculate .9 repeating on a limit 1.

to say .9 repeating = 1 there are some higher assumptions you have to take on faith.

@Fylkir

you're making the assumption that 1/3=.3 repeating
Fylkir (146 D)

1/3=0.333... It's true isn't it?
JamesYanik (548 D)
09 Nov 16 UTC
it's called a paradox of positive: if you assert this as a claim then you generate a paradox, but if you assert it as negative, then there is no paradox.

you have to fight the nature of paradoxes to disprove this.

welcome to pure math
JamesYanik (548 D)
09 Nov 16 UTC
@Fylkir

that's like asking .99999 = 1 it's true isn't it?
Fylkir (146 D)
09 Nov 16 UTC
Well I guess I'm steering clear away from maths degrees then
Okay then alegabra.

x = .99999999999999999..........
10x = 9.99999999999999999............

10x - x = 9x = 9

x=1

therefore .9999..... = 1
JamesYanik (548 D)

hahaha see? evil damn paradoxes.
JamesYanik (548 D)

@Vashta

close, but not quite. you're assuming that .9 repeating *10 = 9.9 repeating

look up indeterminate infinity. some infinities are quantifiably LARGER than other infinities.

by multiplying by ten, the number of infinite 9s at the end of 9.9 repeating will by one less that .9 repeating

thus take that one power degree less than, subtract is from 1, and you get: .9 repeating to the original degree
JamesYanik (548 D)

*not talking about degrees as in exponents, but in length of digits
JamesYanik (548 D)

if i say
A(x)=infinity(x) + 1
&
B(x)=infinity(x)

and i plug in x=1

then function A(x) will be further along, though still determined as infinity. it's REALLY high level math, and it moves into a theoretical realm further than most can comprehend
Yoyoyozo (65 D)
09 Nov 16 UTC
Have you looked up indeterminate infinity, Yanik? You have no idea what you're talking about. One infinite number can't be smaller another infinite by a factor of a real number.
tvrocks (388 D)
09 Nov 16 UTC
James, do you have a mathematics degree? I tend to make the same arguments to disprove it, but i'm not particularly knowledgable about theories.
JamesYanik (548 D)
09 Nov 16 UTC
can we not do this now? we got an election going on. PM me with questions
Yanik, do you have a maths degree? I don't think you know as much about infinity as you think you do.
JamesYanik (548 D)
09 Nov 16 UTC
@Yoyoyozo

i'm not talking about the basic high school calculus definition of indeterminate infinity.

The theory is that the very fact that one could be larger than another, necessitates a real- yet impossible to determine number. this number itself is theorized to be in a non-fixed point along the number line, as our perception of infinity shifts
JamesYanik (548 D)
09 Nov 16 UTC
1. thanks for attacking me and saying i'm stupid, can we just stick to the math?

2. the assumption that there is a difference between two infinities at any point, is b/c of our perception of infinity. we perceive one to be larger than another, then we have a real yet undeterminable number.

so we cannot determine a difference between 1 and .999, yet a difference does exist
Lethologica (203 D)
09 Nov 16 UTC
.999... repeating doesn't exist, because to make it exist there are some higher assumptions you have to take on faith.

Hey, look, I too can choose an arbitrary number system and try to run rings around people who don't understand axiomatic logic, tee hee, aren't I clever. :|
ghug (5068 D(B))
09 Nov 16 UTC
James, your understanding is useless for the majority of actual mathematics.

There are countable and uncountable infinities, which are a much more useless concept, but it's clear that you don't know what you're talking about, so we're not going to give you credit for those.
JamesYanik (548 D)
09 Nov 16 UTC
@lethologica

you're not entirely wrong...

I blame Abraham Lincoln
He screwed over the south's economy without granting them an alternative, devastated their homeland and subjugated them to the union. There's no coincidence that these people's descendants elected Trump today. They have been disenfranchised and alienated and economically subjugate since before 1860. We are paying for the sins of our fathers.

The union should've bought the slaves' freedom the same way Britain did.

Your love for Hillary is astounding. You people honestly believe that you're more intelligent than Trump supporters? Your dumb stupid naive childish retarded minds were exposed the moment you fuckers failed the incorruptible, never-took-a-dollar-from-corporations, stood for gay rights when it was unpopular, voted against wars when they were popular Bernie Sanders.
