Obi, the whole situation is worse than your comments suggest. Part of this is about 4chan and other pits of the internet reflecting the sort of chauvinistic attitude and behavior, but it's hardly restricted to that. The problems can be seen in various places, and personally, I think that focusing on the extremes like 4chan is a mistake, and that the widespread hostility is more of an issue.
That said, people that exploit these sorts of situations to push agendas like this Rantic group (which I've seen in the past) are at least as bad. This whole thing wasn't even instigated by the "problem" people or those with the supposed bias, but by a group trying to forward their own agenda. It's an artificial situation, and while that certainly doesn't excuse bigotry, I don't think THIS is the hill to die on.
"Users on the 4chan message board took credit for creating the site, which featured the 4chan logo. However, it now appears that the threat site was created by a group calling themselves "Rantic marketing," which is apparently a fake company run by an internet collective that has been behind several other false countdown sites in the past. Rantic said that it is trying to shut down #4chan. "
