Obama's Speech
Obama has asked Congress to delay a military strike vote until the US can see if Syria will agree to relinquish chemical weapons, thoughts?

And did anyone else catch this little gem? "Neither Assad or his allies have any interest in escalation that would lead to his demise"

Breaking Bad Spinoff
I don't watch the series, but a lot of friends do, and I just saw that AMC has given the green light to a Saul Goodman spinoff series.

Why is satire never used by the religious against the nonreligious? Are the faithful just taking the high road, or is it, as I suspect, that satire can only be used to poke fun at the inherently ridiculous?

Go4it Post-game Thread gameID=125305
This is the game started in this thread: http://www.webdiplomacy.net/forum.php?viewthread=1045845#1045845
Anon participants in this "high quality no CD" gunboat game were NigeeBaby, SpeakerToAliens, pjmansfield, Siddhartha, OCCASVS, AlexNesta and myself. See below.

Unfortunately, you will not find the game, because one of the above immediately started to NMR and the rest of us cancelled. However, since a cancelled game disappears and the NMR/CD player does not get a record of his resignation, there is no way for me (or the rest of us) to exclude the scoundrel from future games. I am requesting that all of you post your country and your statement that you did not NMR so we can identify the miscreant by process of elimination. I was England.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

I was Turkey I think, I didn't want to Cancel because of 1 NMR but everyone else wanted to so I went along with the others, I didn't ebven know why people were pressing Cancel, can we play again?

I am willing for six of us to play again as soon as we identify the NMR.
I was Germany and had a really good start (3 builds after A01) so I really didn't want to cancel, but as just about everybody else had...

I'd certainly play the same people again, except whoever NMR'd.

Sorry, I didn't see the thread (I'm not too forum-active). I was actually Turkey, and I was one of the first to vote cancel, since Russia CD'd.

I didn't see this thread until now, I don't have any active games so I'm not on the site too often. I was Russia, but I don't understand why the game had to be cancelled: I was in an OK position, I was submitting moves and I only missed one turn by a couple of hours on the Labor Day weekend. I was the last one to actually vote "Cancel" and I only did it because everyone else asked for the cancellation and I was afraid you'd all gang up on me if I didn't. The game was perfectly playable and I was really sorry to see that you all wanted it stopped. I guess Italy just needed an excuse to get out of this game after having stupidly attacked Austria... Anyway, I'm sorry if my NMR determined you all to stop playing what was becoming a very interesting game!

Alex --

With respect, I think any NMR in the first year unbalances the game. That was exactly why I tried to get reliable players for the game in advance, and even closely questioned someone who had a questionable resign rate (turned out it was from live games which are notorious in that regard). Furthermore, everyone knew about Labor Day when the game started ... you chose to sign up and then you chose to stay off the forum and unbalance the game.

I understand your argument that poor play also unbalances the game in some respects, but the unpredictability of NMR-prone players is (in my opinion) the worst aspect of on-line Diplomacy. If you do not intend to stay involved, please do not get involved in a game.

It seems nobody went CD in this game. And this game had two Turkeys and no Italy. And it had a Russian player who was the last one that actualy voted cancel and a Turk player who was the first one to vote cancel because Russia CD-ed!
A very interesting game,it shouldn't have been canceled,too bad!

I want that game re-instated ....
Well,one of them isn't only a quitter but a liar too,obviously.
AlexNesta (239 D)
09 Sep 13 UTC
Honestly, I learned a lesson here - most of the time when playing Russia I tend to grow quickly and then in mid-game everyone turns against me and I struggle to hang on to a position on the stalemate line. This time, I didn't get any centers in 1901 but strategically everything just fell into place. Turkey and England seemed very friendly and eager to have me as their ally, Germany was very busy defending against a menacing England, Austria turned on Italy and was ready to do anything for revenge. Was it just luck? Would it have lead anywhere? I guess we'll never know...
@Alex do you read other posts in a thread? Have you CD-ed or haven't you?
AlexNesta (239 D)
09 Sep 13 UTC
Split, do you read the posts? I admitted I NMR'ed one time in the Fall '01 in my first post: " I only missed one turn by a couple of hours on the Labor Day weekend". Then, I apologized at the end of the message: "Anyway, I'm sorry if my NMR determined you all to stop playing what was becoming a very interesting game"! There was no CD however...
Ok,you haven't read one single post in this thread.

Thanks. Not sure if VB will have me, though - if he (and others) would rather have someone else, I'll understand, no hard feelings.
I'm up for it. Alex forgiven. If anyone needs a pause, click Pause. That's what it's there for.
OCCASVS (318 D)

I'm also in for a rematch ;) And if it counts anything, np for having Alex in the game.
VirtualBob (244 D)
10 Sep 13 UTC
Go ahead and start without me ... I am not bearing a grudge, but I am in several games already and about to go on a break where my connectivity may be suspect ... I would prefer not to risk NMR/CD.
AlexNesta (239 D)
10 Sep 13 UTC
Sorry to hear that, VB! I will set up a new game and invite NigeeBaby, SpeakerToAliens, pjmansfield, Siddhartha, OCCASVS and trip (as a replacement for VB).

The object of most people, at least those posting on this site, about the war is as simple as averting an international war.
