I Need a Mod
I need a mod to take a look at some reason postings in the thread I maintain, the Daily Bible Reading because a player is posting extremely offensive material of a graphic sexual nature that is completely unrelated to the topic. I muted him, but want to know if this is permitted or if it can be deleted from the Forum.

I need a God to take a look at some reason postings in the prayers I maintain, the King James Bible because a neighbour is posting extremely offensive material of a graphic sexual nature that is completely unrelated to the topic. I forgave him, but want to know if this is permitted or if it can be deleted from the Universe.

The Return of NFL Pick 'em: Week 1 (Plus your picks for Playoff Teams + The Super Bowl!)
So a day late and seven Peyton TDs later--damn, he was great last night!--NFL Pick 'em is back...
So, besides the Broncos/Ravens game, pick the winners for the Week 1 match-ups...THEN pick your playoff teams (the 1-6 seeds for each conference) and then, of course...your Super Bowl match-up and champs.
So, NFL, Week 1...PICK 'EM!

Welfare pays better than work in the US
A mother of two in New York is eligible for more in welfare benefits than starting salaries for school teachers in the state. Hawaii offered the most money to a mother of two, $60, 590 and Idaho the least $11,150. 33 states offer more in welfare than full-time minimum wage work earns.

Sbyvl36 is doing an interesting little project, we're hoping to compile as many results as we can.

Where do you fall on the political scale compared to other webdip members?

just go to www.politicalcompass.org and take the 5 minute survey, PM your economic left/right and social authoritarian/libertarian numerical score to

Sbyvl36 UserID#:44806

He was kind enough to give this link as a teaser for what he's compiled so far....

uhh, I"m link-retarded abge, I think you need to add your name to the link for us to see. Better to just wait for one guy to do it all at once probly?
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

or you can copy the link after you modify the chart, and repost it at the bottom of this thread, but that can be awkward if people are working in parallel.

This compass test is is far less accurate on the authoritarian/libertarian axis than it is on the left/right. There has to be something more accurate out there, right?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Of course there are more accurate tests, but they're going to take longer than 2 minutes to do...
jacobcfries (783 D)

Point taken. But I ask, do you any of your in the lower left quadrant consider yourself libertarian-leaning? I've never seen anyone take this and end up in the upper left quadrant. I know that personally, I am far, far from libertarian and have taken this thing many times, sometimes trying to answer everything with an authoritarian slant and I still end up lower left.

No, I wouldn't consider myself much of a libertarian. On the other hand, the US political structure is so fucked up, I'm not sure I'd even recognize what real libertarianism is.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
jacobfries: you are mistaking social libertarianism for what Americans call the "libertarian party" (which means conservative on both the economic and social scale).

The word libertarian just means government keeps out of whatever it is you're talking about... maximizing liberties.

I am socially libertarian (conservative, right), but I'm liberal/left on economic issues, meaning I want more government regulation.
krellin (80 DX)
18 Aug 13 UTC
Well, it would appear that Libertarian in this use is simply the idea that you should be self-sufficient, not government controlled
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
that last bit was worded badly.

On social issues, I am libertarian (conservative, right) meaning I want government to stay out of how I live my personal life

On economic issues, I am not libertarian (thus I am liberal, left) meaning I am more likely to want goverment to actively regulate the economy
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
18 Aug 13 UTC
I think the confusion lies in the choice of the terms "fascism" and "libertarianism" for this chart. For instance, if I believe in no government but was also a racist, I'd be closer to Gandhi than someone who believe in a state that forces equal rights on everyone.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
Put simply, yes, what krellin says.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
well you are conflating two terms, abge.

the north/south axis of this chart is social authoritarian vs social libertarian.

Fascism is actually true social authoritarianism, with the absence of any major view on economic left/right (Hitler wasn't economically swaying far to either side).

Adding Racism just pushes you further north, away from ghandi, while your anarchistic views would offset that and push you south. neither view influences E/W
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
18 Aug 13 UTC
To be entirely careful... if you were *completely* no government, you'd be on the far bottom right. I assumed you were talking about social issues though.
