I will keep the survey thread up for another day or two to get more data, but if most of the votes are for choice A or B, then the process the mods use to determine cheating accusations seem to work just fine; it's just a matter of the response and the action taken afterwards.

It's perhaps more efficient/pleasing to change the generic reply response as others have indicated.

Putting metagamers aside for the moment, there is only the discussion as to what to do with games where cheaters are a part of the drawn if we agree to cancel games where the cheaters win.

Is that a fair summary?

Speaking of being draconian, has anyone noticed there's been no cheating accusations in the forum recently. I was really hoping I would get a chance to play with my new silence toys. : (

Well, not really. I mean, someone could make the case that a game should be cancelled if they were eliminated by 2 multis, even if someone else won.

That is not that surprising really. Someone can be guilty and yet manage to cover their trail well enough for there to be no damning evidence.

That said, looking at mr.crispy and playbake, it does look a bit obvious that cheating was going on.

This makes me wonder... and forgive me for saying this... and I most probably speak out of ignorance... but is there a flaw in the mods process? Are their standards of evidence too high? I wonder how the mods what rule the mods use for *ruling out cheating*. For example if the IP address is different, do they immediately decide that there can't be cheating? (If so tthis might be a mistake because it is possible to get around the IP issue).

Regardless, I am quite sure the mods are doing the best they can and we shouldn't give them a hard time

Right now, on average, people get fucked over by multis an equal amount. If we start compensating people for past games, we need to be very careful how we do it, or there will be a lot of complaints (and rightfully so).

I am, of course, not going to answer that question.

I would like to point out that all of our active mods have (or are about to have) engineering/technical degrees, one of which is a PhD, and one is almost done a Masters. Trivial trickery does not get past us.

This never happened.
The case Lando is complaining about is not mr.crispy's.

Funny. He was complaining about *two* cases, one of which *was* Crispy. Or at least he said it was. So something doesn't compute. The equation isn't balanced. And the books seem to be cooked somewhere on this claim from one or the other of you. Hmmm...

There are two cases. One where we found no evidence and won't be discussed further on this forum.

The second involved Crispy, which I originally handled and said this to Lando:


"I have no reason to suspect foul play. We can look into it further if
you'd like, but I have no cause to stop this game."

That seems perfectly reasonable to me, no?

A bunch of the mods looked into it and he was eventually banned. I will not apologize to Lando for not keeping him up-to-date on the case.

A very reasoned response. The only issue there I guess is what Lando claims was the response. His opening paragraph from the opening post is below...

Recently playbake and mr. crispy have been banned for cheating. I sent in an accusations about these two players on November 27th. My first response by the moderators was "There is no evidence to suspect foul play." I did not appreciate this answer, which I will explain below, but I asked them to continue looking into it, received no response and now see the players banned.

And I agree you owed him no further response. If your response was actually what you said (and I've no reason to doubt it, knowing your detail oriented and articulate self, abgemacht), he has no valid complaint as you did continue to look into it at his request and found them to be cheating after all.

That quote I just gave you was the Nov. 27th email. As you can see, Lando truncated my response. I don't see how my response (in full) could have been interpreted as dismissive.

But Geofram is mistaken when he says Lando wasn't complaining about Crispy. Lando's complaint was about the communication as a whole and that *included* Cripsy's case, justified or not.

I agree, it was not dismissive. Perhaps Lando is/was having a Draugnar-off-his-meds moment.

Draugnar -> are you really complaining about the tone in which you are addressed?Based upon your behavior on these forums, the fact that I have had the misfortune to read your drivel is already more respect than you deserve. Through my, albeit quite limited, experience with the mods, they are doing a decent job. Sure I'd love to feel more secure that when I join a gunboat match that I am not sitting down with 4 multis. I also wish there were more automated ways to catch a cheater before investing a month into a game. Just because you were nice enough to donate, doesn't mean others need to go out of their way to kiss your ass. Start by showing others respect if you wish to receive more in return.

In fact, now that I know it was I and not Geo who responded to Lando, I'm going to get snippy myself.

I responded to your email within an hour of you sending it. I bumped you to the top of the pile to attend to the game before it finished. I sent you a reasonable response and the mods followed through just as promised.

You then come on the forum and misrepresent our conversation in an attempt to win public support against the mod team. Not cool.

@noiseunitard - First, as I say to every n00b who insults me, fuck off, asswipe. ;-) That said, I'm not complaining. I'm just part of a discussion. Lando was complaining. Oh, and except for maybe Geofram, I think I actually have a pretty good relationship with the mods here. Sure, I give and get abuse, but in the end, I'll call all of them, even Geo, a friend.
